With just over a month until release, the hype for Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire is starting to build towards a crescendo. Not shy of feeding that excitement, The Pokémon Company has unleashed full details on new Mega Evolutions and features for the upcoming titles, which initially came out in Corocoro magazine scans.
First of all we have Mega Latios, which'll be found in Omega Ruby, and Mega Latias, which'll be in Alpha Sapphire. Details on these are below. These high-flying Dragon- and Psychic-type Pokémon can Mega Evolve and fly through the Hoenn region; you can jump on for a ride, too. This travelling is called Soar, and flying into 'Mirage' spots will also allow you to catch rare Pokémon such as the following:
- Ho'Oh
- Lugia
- Dialga
- Palkia
- Reshiram
- Zekrom
It's also been announced that to encounter and catch Latias or Latios players will need an Eon Ticket for the Southern Island, with details to follow on how these will be obtained later in the year.
Next up we have two more Mega Evolutions — Mega Pidgeot and Mega Beedrill. Details on these below.
- Mega Pidgeot — With increased Special Attack and High Speed, can learning flying-type move Hurricane; also has a No Guard Ability.
- Mega Beedrill — Poisonous stingers boost its Attack, while Bug-type move Fell Stinger raises its Attack stat by two stages. The Adaptability Ability also "raises the power of its moves of the same type from the standard 150% to 200%".
Finally we have the PlayNav Plus, with the following details taken from the press release.
PokéNav Plus is a new tool designed to help players navigate their journey across the Hoenn region. PokéNav Plus is packed with applications to help players find hidden or specific types of Pokémon in tall grass via the DexNav, check all kinds of Hoenn region information via the AreaNav, and view news from around Hoenn and from other players whom you’ve passed with BuzzNav.
The PlayNav function offers three popular features that first appeared in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y— the Player Search System (PSS), Pokémon-Amie, and Super Training. The PSS allows players to trade Pokémon and battle with others nearby or around the world with a Wi-Fi connection. Trainers can play with their Pokémon and feed them treats called Poké Puffs in Pokémon-Amie, and the bond between Trainer and Pokémon will grow. Super Training is a fun way to prepare your Pokémon team for battle. PlayNav also allows players to manage their O-Powers, special advantages that can be kept or shared with others as the game progresses, and view announcements via the Holo Caster.
The distribution of the Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire Special Demo Version also begins across Europe, Australia and Japan on 15th October, so keep your eyes on Nintendo Life for details on that.
Are you excited about these Mega Evolutions, the Soar ability and the PlayNav Plus features? Let us know, while also taking in the new trailer showing off these features, below.

The official Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire website tells you'll start to distribute codes on the 15th, is that true?
And I can't wait to have Mega Pidgeot on my team!
So hyped for this game! I'm curious about the demo codes though, how will they be distributed?
why is Mega Latios and Latias the same colour... let alone look the same? That looks stupid, confusing and lazy
I hope there is not a set number of codes to be distributed via here, that would suck for folk with stuff on during the day.. But still, these games look perfect, HYPE FOR HOENN!
@ikki5 Yeah, no kidding. They look exactly the same.
mega latios and latias look exactly the same, except for the eye color...
@ikki5 Red+Blue = Mega latios/latias color
Also mega steelix & mega glaile
How will we get the code? I know we get it from this website, but how? Is it through eMail? Please answer
Yay!

Hoping the codes distributed here aren't limited! Pre-ordered on Smyths just to find out they won't be sending them out fr Pre-ordering Omega ruby...
Obviously the reason that latias and latios turn into a very similar looking pokemon when they mega-evolve may be because of a hidden meaning the people at gamefreak put in it. Once there were woman and man but through evolution the two became one. Japanese people are unpredictable.
for those in the US, they revealed how the code for the special demo is distributed.

@ShanaUnite They technically in the womb, everyone started out as female so really you'd think it would be the other way around. Then again, the Y chromosome is this ugly piece of garbage thing that looks like it is vanishing from the planet.
it says on serebii how theyre giving out the codes in alot of euro countries. but no hint how were going to get them here in the US. i bet we will know by the 15th though. AWESOME!!!!!
@3dcaleb
There is info on how you get them, look at the official website. Pretty sure it says on Serebii as well.
So does this mean GAME stores aren't giving codes away? There was no mention of them on the ORAS website, but there was on Serebii only a few days ago! I'm so confused. I'll try my luck here first. (btw this is for UK if any confusion arises)
I still have the eon ticket I got with the original games, for use with the e-reader. I can't wait to go back to Hoenn. Ruby was one of my favorite Pokemon games, and probably my favorite GBA game.
As UltraLaserTen said, the codes for the demo will apparently be distributed from the Pokemon website to subscribers who opt in for emails. The site recommends subscribing before October 20.
Edit: That's how to get the demo in America. I'm not sure if it applies to other regions.
we knew of mega latios and latias for MONTHS now, thanks to hackers
@TrueWiiMaster
Just america.
You also have to make sure your spam doesn't reconize the pokemon newsletters.
Sounds fantastic! This weekend, I need to pay off my preorder. So I'll pay it off and get Shiny Gengar too! I just got back into Y, and my sister and I are getting OR and AS (I'm getting AS). I just hope these "eon tickets" aren't hard to get.
@Pikmiin99 GAME have ORAS demos to download via Nintendo Zone in store. Bit of a pain to go in, but can pick up Shiny Mega Gengar at the same time
@Fiendfyre08 thanks, I was heading in to get the Shiny Mega Gengar anyway, I'll still try and get this one from Nintendo Life just because it's an earlier release (hopefully)
November the 15th, will be a glorious day. Not only because of this Pokemon game, but also Smash Bros. for Wii U!!!!
("our poor wallets" indeed)
I wonder if the Eon Ticket event will be a bit more fleshed out than the one in the original versions of the game.
@Xiao_Pai Looks like we're getting some kind of event. We need an Eon Ticket to get to Southern Island for either Latios or Latias.
Hopefully it'll be like the events in 4th gen, I still barely remember Darkrai's event. xD
So excited! And so many megas!
Downloading demo right now !!!
@GAMEandASH Are the codes on this site getting distributed now?
Don't think so?
Do you thing they will be releasing them at 12 GMT? If so, I only have to stay up another 30 mins exactly
Well i got mine last week on first look in holland, I allready finished the Demo its pretty awesome. I don't want to spoil too much for you out there. But it's pretty generous from Nintendo.
Canada gets this demo too, the same way as the US.
@ikki5 We've known what they look like for a year now, so I think everyone just got used to how similar the designs look.
The flying makes me think of the flight in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs.
OH MY GOD STEELIX IS GETTING A MEG-- oh my god those floating rocks around its head make it look so freaking dumb
^Nop.
I got my demo download code today - woohoo!
Downloading now...so exciting!
@Ernest_The_Crab The Eon Ticket is for the other Lati twin. Latios is in Omega Ruby and Latias is in Alpha Sapphire. With the Eon Ticket, you can catch the other one (Latias in OR, Latios in AS). The article isn't very clear on that.
Am I the only one excited for the Mirage Legendaries! Sure they might be old, but that is already more than were X/Y, which will be fun to catch again.
This should be iterating.
Oh nice! I'm all for soarin' high above Hoenn!
@SylveonLover
Weird.... I never knew everyone that so many people knew what they looked like 6 months before the game was even announced. Also, when were they shown before? I know there was a magazine like a week ago that showed them but I thought it was Latios as they were blue... but now to me, gamefreak was lazy to use the same model and everything and only change the eye colour.
@ikki5 Oddly, the models for Mega Latias and Mega Latios are present in X and Y's code. They were never officially shown before now, but I'm pretty sure NL posted an article about them being discovered.
@ikki5 If I recall correctly, someone who was looking through the coding of X and Y discovered Mega Latios and Mega Latias along with Diancie, Volcanion, and Hoopa. He then posted pictures about his discoveries which made people aware of those unreleased Pokemon at the time. At first people thought they were all fake but began to believe after Diancie was officially announced. The Megas were harder to validate because in the original photo both Pokemon's battle bars were missing the Mega evolution symbol seen after a Pokemon Mega evolves. However since those Pokemon were forced into appearing in the game using external software most likely the user just made them appear in their Mega forms by default. Additional videos of other people using third party software from Japan to generate Pokemon directly in X and Y confirm that this is most likely the case. Why their coding is in X and Y is still a mystery though since apparently Nintendo is not planning on releasing any patch to make ORAS Megas and other new forms usable when connecting with X and Y.
How do you get them now? Please answer
yeah i still think latios and latias looking the same is stupid but oh well and well its the 15th now so how are the codes being sent out =S sigh why cant it just be a normal download jeez
I'm so hyped for these games! I got the demo yesterday (^_^)
