Earlier this year we brought you the news that Abyss was confirmed for the Wii U eShop, a new updated version of the DSiWare title. Priced at $1.99 and promising new content, it immediately struck us as a potentially attractive offering on the home console, especially as one of our few complaints in our original 7/10 score was of a lack of depth (we'll keep making that rubbish joke, please understand).
The new title does include 20 new missions and two player multiplayer to join the original content, and EnjoyUp Games has now confirmed that North American gamers will be able to dive in on 1st May — no date has been given for Europe as yet.
The trailer below shows this new version in action, including off-TV play and competitive multiplayer that has one focused on the GamePad screen and the other on the TV. Is this a budget title worth the plunge? We'll know soon enough.

$2 Wii U game? Sorted.
Any news on an EU release?
@lividd3ad The game has been in EU lotcheck for some time now, so it should get approved pretty soon. Probably mid-late may release in Europe.
Hard to complain about $1.99, not sure it was worth breaking your bank holiday vacation over though.
@MrV4ltor Fantastic news! And great timing because my exams finish in late May
I always thought it looked interesting (like a chilled out Solar Jetman), but hated filling up my 3DS' laughably small internal memory with dsiware titles. I'll take the plunge on this.
Putty Squad??
I'll wait for a sale!
TV-off play?
@Maelstrom Look at the video that's linked in the article maybe?

"It lacks depth" Bahahahaha!!! Love it, took me a while to get it. Looks like a fun game with a good price point. Might get it just to play for a day or something.
Looks fun, I'm in as a soon as we get a uk release that doesn't ignore current exchange rates!! I reckon £1.29 is pretty fair. No more please
For some reason I've always been drawn to underwater stuff 0_o
@MrV4ltor I meant it seems odd to call it TV-off mode rather than off TV pllay like everyone else calls it.
@Maelstrom It works, though. Your TV is off while you play only on your Gamepad. TV-Off mode.
I had my eye on this one, I'm pleased to see it's out soon and so cheap...hope that doesn't mean it's not complete or lacking.
On the other hand, I've picked up games like Toki Tori and GunMan Clive for $1.99 and was highly impressed.
Wow, this is shaping up to be anything but a drought in the e-shop. GBA on VC, Nes Remix 2, Child of Light, and now this!
Nice. Hopefully we'll be seeing some more groovy DSiWare games make a shift to Wii U. I'd love to see Q-Games stuff appear on the big screen.
This game was pretty fun on DSiWare! The price point, new content and multiplayer definitely justify another purchase for me.
I was planning on picking this up recently. Glad I didn't. Now I can get the Wii U version instead.
Looks rubbish.
@Thearnaud44 they already did:

Looks a little too much like the water level in Ninja Turtles for my taste.
I'll be picking this up day one. Looks well worth $2
I'd download it the same day, were it available over here then... If they use the new strengths to create more atmosphere, it should be quite a nice experience for that price!
