Unpacking manages to do several things very well, all at the same time. It’s a touching story told through interaction, it provides the creative play space of a great dollhouse game, and it deftly applies established game design ideas from completely different genres. Its only real shortcoming is the repetition that is a necessary byproduct of landing its message. Effort has gone into making the controls satisfying on Switch, and the visual and sound design are delightful throughout, making Unpacking, like any sane person’s cutlery, absolutely top-drawer.

The puzzles are fantastic, the characters well realised, and the visuals top-notch, making those brief moments of horror and terror exceedingly effective. It's an experience we fully recommend going into with as little information as possible, as this will prove to be an incredibly memorable experience; one that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Switch's best visual novels.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster is a package of two fantastic games; the 2001 original and its 2003 direct sequel. FFX is probably not the most straightforward introduction for new players, but it presents one of the most engaging worlds in any of games in the series and its Conditional Time-Based battle system (which here replaced the standard Active Time Battles of previous entries) spiced things up nicely. With upgraded visuals and audio and all the content from the 'International' version of the game, Switch is a great place to play X. If you've got the requisite dozens of hours to spare, of course.

Mutant Mudds Collection gives Nintendo Switch owners the chance to own two fantastic platforming games in one handy, portable package, as well as a nice extra in the new puzzle game, Mudd Blocks. The difficulty of these games may well put a reasonable amount of players off - Mutant Mudds Super Challenge in particular is one nasty fiend – but the overall quality of the two original titles places this collection amongst the best within its genre that the eShop can offer. If you love platformers, and you don’t mind a hefty challenge, do yourself a favour and buy this game.

West of Loathing is not your average RPG; in fact we’d go so far as to say you’ve probably never played anything quite like it in your life. Its combat won’t blow you away but don’t be lulled into believing that’s what this game is about, as really the whole thing is an adventure in exploration and interaction with a bit of fighting sprinkled in. It can occasionally be a little bit difficult to decipher, but the satisfaction felt upon working out a problem totally makes up for it. The humour is as wonderfully dry as the desert you’re traversing and the writing is some of the best you can find on the Switch.
It's a fine game, although it should be noted that the controversy surrounding the designer, which includes historical allegations of abuse, may sour your opinion and influence a purchase decision. Sayonara Wild Hearts is the video game equivalent of Prince: it’s extremely short and its journey maybe ends a little sooner than you’d hoped, but it packs so many varied and beautiful ideas into its brief life and masters so many different styles that even though there’s a real disappointment it’s over so quickly, what it did give you will remain with you for an extremely long time. A true creative masterpiece.
Lost in Play (Switch eShop)

Lost in Play has many of the hallmarks of golden-age point-and-click adventures: a cartoon style, humorously animated protagonists, item-based puzzles, and curiosity-piquing 2D scenes serving as both play space and reward for clearing the previous area. However, it also shakes off many of the classic bugbears: pixel hunting is impossible because you’re moving a character, not a cursor; using no words in the game leaves the hint system to be helpful but not too transparent; there’s very little backtracking because environments are kept small and the time in them is brief; and wacky dream logic is completely excused because you’re playing in children’s imaginations. Over its five-or-so hours, Lost in Play barely puts a foot wrong, delivering cerebral gaming and effervescent entertainment. In doing so, it makes many of the genre’s design challenges look easy.
World of Goo (Switch eShop)

World of Goo is a true classic, and it's revered for good reason. 2D Boy's game is instantly accessible but with plenty of depth; it's paced out perfectly, with a steady stream of new tricks and techniques to learn; and its puzzles can be solved with forward-thinking, quick reflexes or a mixture of both. Wrapped up in a unique, pleasantly apocalyptic presentation, with co-op support and a harder 'OCD' mode for added replay value, this is a complete puzzle package. If you've played it previously, the Switch incarnation might be worth a second go for its portable pointer controls and on-the-go co-op, but if it's your first time into the World of Goo it's absolutely a must-play.
Signalis (Switch eShop)

Signalis came out of nowhere to provide survival horror fans a near-perfect love letter to the long-running genre. It is at its best when you're darting between enemies, using stealth and patience rather than brute force. While some of the combat encounters felt a little forced, the puzzles are just the right mix of challenging and approachable. The surreal imagery and unique storytelling structure add to the overall polish of a game that is the perfect length for what it is. There have been an awful lot of homages to classic survival horror, but Signalis stands as one of the best.

I could get Shin Megami Tensei V for $20 CAD physically, much cheaper than getting it from this digital sale, thanks to a certain Canadian online retailer store. (But I already have it and I paid more for my copy, I should have waited, but then again I was not expecting a Shin Megami Tensei game to go below $30-$40 CAD from a online retail store.)
Also I can pretty much get 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim and Persona 5 Royal physically for a bit cheaper price at this time.
Anyways, there are some good prices here.

Impossible Lair for £2.50 is one of the best deals in gaming, period. Really fantastic game, very rarely do I go for achievements but I wanted to squeeze everything I could out of this game and went for 100%. Criminally low price for such a good title

I suppose I can understand your quibbling with the word "saturated"; saturated is ultimately about the ratio of one thing inside another, and everyone knows the eShop has a huge volume of low-effort, low-quality titles.
I would ask you, though, to show me an online marketplace or platform that isn't positively purulent with inferior games. The fact is that Switch has an astounding library across many many genres and from first to third-party developers. I wouldn't say it's vastly superior to what's available on PS4 or Steam, but the exclusives are quite strong (can you name 20 AAA titles from Sony that are superior to what's on Switch?). Are you disputing that?
Impossible Lair for £2.50 is one of the best deals in gaming, period.
@larryisaman Must say I don't understand the negativity around that game from certain loud members of the audience. It is not the match of the DKC games (old or new), but what's there kept me engaged, and I look forward to the next title.
The scary thing is... there are a ton of not quite 9/10 games that are also on sale well worth getting.

Axiom Verge for $5 looks legit. There are many other titles that I'm interested in but the sale prices aren't any lower than they typically are during the year so there isn't much for me to get excited about

I’m also Canadian and don’t understand where people are buying games when they claim on this site that physical is often cheaper than digital and like day one. I feel like most of those comments are coming from the uk. But if you have a good source for discounted physical games in Canada, please let me know

@CANOEberry For me it’s right up there with Tropical Freeze, really loved it. Considering the budget was likely a fraction of what that game cost to make it’s amazing what they came out with. I can understand people not holding it in as high regard as myself but I can’t understand not at least enjoying it, especially as a fan of DKC (either original trilogy or Retro’s games).

Although this is a pretty strong list, it goes to show you that the Switch truly is about ready to tap out. I've played and own everything on the platform that I've ever been interested in and there are just SO many rehashes, clones, and samey stuff. Bring on the Switch 2!

Be careful buying Pillars of Eternity on Switch. The load times are bad on PC, but almost unbearable on Switch. There are many mechanics that just do not work on the Switch build.
I'm always a bit baffled by Switch players that recommend it on this console, as in my mind it's one of the weaker ports on the system and almost unplayable.
Great game on PC though.

I own Witcher III on Switch, but honestly, play that game on a different platform. The world is absolutely gorgeous and the Switch doesn’t do it justice.
Also, Okami is one of my all time favorite games. That’s a must buy for anyone.
@Mr_Zurkon TW3 isn't too bad on Switch if you turn off the anti-aliasing, which removes the awful blurring. tbh the difference isn't too stark in comparison to the last-gen home console versions. Going from 60+fps to 30 when you also own the game on PC can be a bit jarring, though.
@CANOEberry @larryisaman Agreed that Impossible Lair is top-tier. Up there with the best DKC games. Kinda makes me wish they'd focus on making 2D games now, as they clearly have an aptitude for it.
I waited and waited for Firewatch to go on sale. Finally it did. At $4.99 right now you can't beat it. At the full $19.99 it's worth it. The game is so great. I recommend it to anyone.

@Joe-b How does it run on Switch? I'm definitely interested, but reviews mentioned that the pop-in as you roam the world is distracting. You're right, though, for that price (or even higher) it does seem worth it...
@CANOEberry not too often but sometimes it "stutters" however it's not too bad and doesn't ruin the game. I didn't notice pop up. The story is awesome though. The only problem I had until I got used to it was I can't read a map for crap. I could be standing in a spot and do a full 360 and not know where I am! I'm so bad with that!
