Topic: Why did you buy Wii?

I hadn't been interested in buying any new consoles after the first PlayStation. I liked to play some new games when I visited some friends but none of those consoles interested me enough to actually buy them.

Then Wii happened. At first I was somewhat interested to the fact that it had new playing controls. Then I tested Wii Sports with my friend and was absolutely hooked on it. I hadn't had so much fun with playing new games for the longest time.

I started to think that I'd really like to play more with the Wii. Then came Super Mario Galaxy.
At that time the price was low enough for me to actually make the decision to buy the console so I bought it.

I had tried other new generation consoles but although it was ok to play I just didn't find any real satisfaction from the games I tried. Wii offered more in terms of gameplay that none of the other consoles could offer.

i bought my wii cause of the vc mainly but really like some of the other games that were out ( trauma center wii sports metriod 3 twilight princess ) it seems with the wii everytime theres a big game coming out you can never find it cause of the lack of great games the console haves but the great games r like i said GREAT so i guess its worth the wait

for christmas i was either going to get equipment for table tennis or a wii and a friend told me why dont you play table tennis on the wii and thats why i got it

Haha, smart friend. I think he just wanted to play the Wii with you.

The only fun table tennis game I've played on Wii was the one in Wii Play, which hardly simulates the game. It would be awesome if they made a more accurate simulation once MotionPlus comes out. In fact, it'd be the perfect sport because all you need is the motion of the paddle. While your footing is of course important in a real game, it's not necessary for a video game where you can have a disembodied paddle, so you could do everything without an awkwardly tethered nunchuk. I'm surprised this wasn't included in Wii Sports Resort... oh well, fencing and frisbee might be fun.

Until that happens though, the Wii is hardly a replacement. I'd keep trying for the ping pong table! Also, as one last side-note to this thread, if you want an interesting video game adaptation of table tennis, look no further.

1 bought it for zelda on european releaseday
2 the wiimote
3 in a strange way mario is like a brother since i grew up with im in the nes days.
4 Nintendo is family and innovative without the blood or not.
5 vc
6 frankly because ps3 and xbox is shit, same old fps cardriving hd shit without any soul at all.

I bought my Wii mainly because it was head and shoulders cheaper than an xbox 360 or PS3 and the innovative control style would allow for a different sort of play experience. If I want to just hit buttons to game, I can use my desktop for that. While the Wii is my first console, I used to play NES, SuperNES and many of the other earlier generation systems at friends houses and the idea of the VC also caught my eye. I would finally be able to own and play some of the games I played with friends when I wished.

I bought it cause I've owned every nintendo console before it and the wii looked the greatest out of all the 7th gen consoles. I've never doubted my choice.

I got it for Zelda, Brawl, the VC, and because it was way less than a PS3.

I bought my Wii partly because of coming Nintendo titles, partly because I wanted to play Gamecube titles on it.

Wanted to play Twilight Princess in 16:9 with pointer controls for weapons, and to see if the gesture for swordplay would get obnoxious (it didn't ) also, of course, for the prospect and potential which has been realized to some extent, but whose best years are yet to come. also because of the wiisports pack-in.

Given that they were first to market with the first affordable, mass-market console to push this technology as the standard, Nintendo and the cream of the 3rd party crop are at a respectable place at this point in time. I'm quite satisfied and uaually find a reason to turn my Wii on every day (Wiiware helps with that)

Oh, also agreed about best shooter controls EVER. I was looking forward to having fun playing FPS on a console again, and I have already (Red Steel was flawed but a fun first try, MP3 was beyond awesome, MoH:H2 controlled brilliantly but meh level design, CoD:WaW Controled abotu as well as H2 but with better overall design.) SO HYPED FOR CONDUIT!!!

ps: digiki seems to not value new and interesting control methods, even when presented/implemented well

K' because swinging your arms to play Zelda, is better than not swinging your arms. I value quality more than novelty.
The Wii may have better FPS controls than the competition, but it's FPS are still much worse, not that I play FPS.

People ragged on Pop-Up Pirate Wiiware but it was presented and implemented well.

... Its brand loyalty for me. I remember way back when, I was shopping in 'Dixons' for something to play all these exciting video games on. The sales guy was showing off the NES and Sega Master System. Suffice to say that I was dead excited with my decision on the NES. The clincher for me was the shape of the console. So yhear - Nintendo's my bag man.

I got mine in February of 2007 with my younger brother buying it at his work. We got for the following reasons:

1.) The price
2.) Interested in Wiisports and future titles at the time.
3.) Nintendo has a good record on reliability.
4.) Thought the Wii was offering something different in game experience due to wiimote.
5.) The vc

I bought the wii for several reasons.

1. I have been a Nintendo nut ever since I was born. I remember playing Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo, then it all happened, I became one of the gaming crowd

2. The wii is the cheapest, its price it fair and you save alot of money when buying Xbox 360 or PS3

3. I never got into Sony or Microsoft, I love their games and franchises and everything but I was more into nintendo, I mean how am I gonna play Super Smash Bros Brawl on those consoles? That and I am not abanding my man Mario, Link and my female Samus Aran

4. Xbox, I remember getting the console and having nothing but frustration with the damn thing, it worked when I got it for christmas BUT NEVER READ ANY OF THE F#$KING DISCS!!!!!!!!

5. A feature that allowed us to download old school Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and other console games.

I didn't mention sword swiping in Zelda because that was more novelty (not that it got to the point of unplayable annoyance), but you first replied saying that you don't buy any other Wii disc games at all because they lack value (I assume pertaining to either game length or total feature/modes offered). Well I'm telling you there are a ton of disc based games aside from the couple you own that are stellar due mainly to their use of the controller, and would thus be far less remarkable and of lesser value if somehow released on other consoles, and most all of them are 40 or 50 bucks as opposed to 60 or more. The value is certainly there

So that I wouldn't miss out on the new Zeldas and Mario games. But an equally big draw was the VC.

Zelda : Twilight Princess, Sadness (which still hasn't come out!), Smash Bros Brawl, and Resident Evil : The Umbrella Chronicles.
