About e-shop, it´s very much a technical aspect too. The NES is programmed in a completely different language than modern consoles. Nintendo emulates their old games on Virtual Console, but "new retro games" released on e-shop need to be programmed for modern pc´s/ consoles. Basically, the whole game would need to be reprogrammed in Unity.

And yeah, it´s both a costly and difficult process to get your release cleared on E-shop.

If the developer interests you, do check out nintendolifes review of last years release:

This game is developed as a tribute to the old NES-format, not as an attempt to earn big money. It´s pretty cool to release games for dead formats. Quest Forge:By Order of Kings was developed on free time, so no studio will go under because of this

Ludosity is developing Ittle Dew 2 for a bigger audience. Quest Forge is a fun side project for a niche audience (like me).

Also, there is a big difference between an unofficial homebrew release like this and a E-shop. For a release on Nintendos official channels you need clearance from Nintendo. This is not an official Nintendo product, but it works on PAL and NTSC-NES.

My brother did the graphics for this one, so I can spread some light on the project.

The game should be compared with Y´s, combat is resolved by walking into enemies.

Quest Forge: By Order of Kings is developed on spare time exclusively for the NES. Ludosity were offered by Piko Interactive to release a NES game on cartrige and took the opportunity. The game will most certainly remain a NES exclusive. (However, the prequel was indeed developed for fun on the Atari 2600

Same here, don´t know why us scandinavians don´t get Club Nintendo.

When it comes to this particular game, I´m still importing from the UK. A pack of costumes isn´t worth the extra 10 euros the game costs in Sweden. Besides, I´ll enjoy this game just as fine with the regular costumes, they look really good.

I like Ittle Dew, and I´m kind of glad it became a game of it´s own instead of an official Zelda title. Ittle Dew has some wonderfully tounge-in-cheek humor that sets it apart from a regular Zelda. It´s a clone alright, but it has plenty personality. And Joel had some balls showing it to Nintendo

There´s nothing controversial about his statement. With less than 4 million consoles sold since release things look dark. And with new consoles released this winter, it doesn´t look bright.

1985 is a strange comparation though, since Nintendo owned the market in the NES days.

Seriously. As much as I love Nintendos games, that doesn´t make the company free from faults. I really wish Nintendo would create products without unethical labour, and thet thay could be transparent about it.

The same goes for Sony and Microsoft, but this article is about Nintendo.

Well, developing one game at a time is a good thing. When Retro Studios were formed they tried developing two games at the same time as Metroid Prime, both had to be cancelled.

I´m not really longing for a new DK yet, there are many good plattformers for Nintendo systems already. Hope it´s good though. Maybe they´ll develop something more groundbreaking next.

"Nintendo's played it safe, commercially. Yet that makes business sense, which is something we should support. "

I wonder. This lineup looks like games for people who already own the WiiU. Nothing here seems set to wow new consumers. Nintendo can´t rely on everybody buying another Wii Fit, the general public has moved on.

Added content is ok with me if it´s not something that feels "left out" of the original release. Many times DLC feels like a way to charge extra for the complete game. However, if Nintendo had a smaller team to create a few bonus dungeons for a Zelda it´s just good!

That_Guy_from_Faxana commented on Zelda Series Timeline Wasn't Planned From the ...:

@Kaine_Morrison Surprise Yeah, Zelda 1 & 2 were the only games connected in the beginning, everything became a mess when Nintendo started using "other" Links. Well, to be honest even Zelda II messes things up with the talk aobut "another princess Zelda".

The games are best played as separate experiences, there isn´t much of substance in the story anyway. Just very enjoyable games.

Side scrolling action game??? The other Super Robot Wars/ Taisen titles heve been strategy games. This one seems to be just as focused on over the top battle animations as the other one, pity license deals with anime companies will prevent it from reaching west.

He bought the game, and that´s what counts. The first months of sales are generally used to measure if the game´s sold good or not.

Besides, secondhand market has existed as long as trade itself, so it doesn´t damage the industry one bit. The gaming industry just needs to accept that once we´ve payed for their product, we own that copy and are free to give it away, sell it or throw it in the trash.
