Topic: Skyward Sword versus Ocarina of Time

I can't seem to get the controls right on Skyward, so I've already given up on it. So that instantly makes it Ocarina. But the games themselves, it wouldn't be fair for me to compare. Well, if you know what I mean...

Wind Waker is the clear winner

Ocarina of time is my favorite game of all time alongside Xenoblade. Skyward Sword is extremely entertaining and in some ways surpasses Ocarina, but there are too many minor flaws (Fi constantly interrupting, the slowness of collecting a minor treasure).

The best are A Link to the Past, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess. The worst are Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword.

Skyward Sword has something else Twilight Princess lacked, and that was a sense of enjoyment of the game.

I will say the dungeons were very clever in Skyward Sword. But it's still a flawed game in many other aspects. I'd say my biggest complaint is the lack of variety in enemies and bosses. A big majority of the enemies in SS are merely recolours of the same enemies (specifically bokoblins). And while yes it's true there are recolours in the other games as well, they weren't nearly as frequent and prominent.

And then there's the bosses. How many times did you have to fight The Imprisoned? Like, 4? And how many times did it feel different? Yeah. And then you also fought Molderach, Stalmaster, and that pirate robot thing at least twice each. And none of the bosses felt epic (except Ganon), not even the silly Monsters Inc. looking thing on the ship. You also have to run through some of the temples a second time (with very minor changes).

And as TendBoy already said, there's no sense of exploration. Aside from Fi literally spelling EVERYTHING out for you like you're a brain damaged goldfish, there actually isn't much to discover. The 4 worlds are very linear and feel almost like a 3D Mario stage than a Zelda environment, and the Sky is a lifeless, empty void. People complained that the Great Sea was dull, but at least it had enemies and, ya know, islands with actual stuff on them (not just a chest sitting in the center).

But it's not all bad. The improvements to movement (lol) were a welcome addition, and the upgradable equipment was awesome. I also really enjoyed the story, although the thing near the end with Fi was stupid and cliche.

There's absolutely no contest at all there for me. Skyward Sword is linear to the point of being boring, has barely any memorable characters, repeats the same 5-6 enemies over and over, has a vast sky overworld filled with nothing but two islands to really do anything on, etc, etc, etc. Ocarina of Time is the opposite of all those things. All of them.

These ^^ x 1000

I hated the constant backtracking, lack of overworld, and linearity. It's just a lazy way out. Why design more worlds, when we can just repeat the same parts over again, recolor enemies, and fight the same bosses over again? If they were going to design it that way, couldn't they at least have given you the ability to teleport, instead of going back to the sky every time?

Also, did they really need to use motion plus for everything? I think the thing that annoyed me most in the game was the fact that you can't use the IR pointer. Why can't I just point at my screen where I want to shoot/select something? The constant re-calibration just pissed me off, especially in the heat of a battle. Don't even get me started on the swimming controls...

AND THEN THERE WAS FI. Holy monkey tits how I hate Fi. She has absolutely nothing useful to add. What a waste of time and programming space. If Navi was bad, then Fi is truly the master of useless side characters. This game would automatically be about 20% cooler if not for Fi.

This a million times. TP was so effing dull that it wasn't even laughable. TP had a bigger overworld than SS, but it felt lifeless and barren. SS's overworld was smaller but it was full of surprises and secrets. Don't even get me started on Midna. Fi is the best ''helper'' in any Zelda game hands down. The dungeons are majestic, the combat is awesome, and the game is challenging. TP was also ridiculously easy. Why people dislike SS is astounding to say the least.

Skyward Sword isn't even in the top 5 Zelda games of all time.

Oh hey, it's that boss I just fought. Oh hey, I get to go to the volcano again. Wow Fi's singing animation is the worst thing I've seen in Zelda game. D: Oh hey......it's that same boss I just I just fought twice before. Back to the volcano again? Really!? Good lord is she singing again!? Awesome a boss rush mode so now I can fight that boss I already fought three times before a few more times......sweet. Yes, I finally hunted down 476 tadpoles! ....and I'm back to the volcano.

Should have been titled, "Recycle Sword" tbqh.

The sky is dull and empty. I love sailing in Wind Waker because the sea is so huge and there's so much to do. There's nothing to do while flying, and hardly any islands are worth visiting for anything besides Goddess Cubes.

The surface is mind-numbing. The areas are restrictive, Fi tells you what to do whether you like it or not, and you just hack & slash your way to the dungeon.

The dungeons are simple and linear. When I first heard about this, I thought it was great news. I thought it meant more emphasis would go to the other areas, so I would be spending less time in dungeons and more time exploring the world.
Great.

After the dungeon, it's back to Skyloft to do it again. Sky, surface, dungeon. It may have 1:1 motion controls, but it's just too dull and boring.

Why does it always have to be this way: because the game "X" is great, game "Y" sucks. Seriously, SS, OOT and TP are all great games, and just because i enjoyed OOT the most, i see no reason to bash those other games like they were the worst thing in the history of videogames.

Why try to make things more compact, be able to fill them with secrets and enemies and make every moment in the game have some meaning, when we can make huge, barren overworlds, put a cave here and there so people can "explore", and put in a bunch of meaningless extra items just to have more stuff?

What Meta-Rift said.

Twilight Princess did everything right. SS tried to improve on that and failed. From my perspective.

You just made fun of every Zelda game ever made. Even Skyward Sword. Do you even know what you're talking about?

I know exactly what I'm talking about, thank you. It's not my fault if you can't understand.

If you're trying to trash talk TP or any other Zelda in defense of your beloved SS have fun. You're doing a terrible job.

Aren't you just precious.

Let's take a look at the items in Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess, shall we? In SS they culled the number of main items to 8. Each of them serve a specific, useful purpose in all parts of the world (except maybe the whip, but okay). Twilight Princess has some good items, for sure. But we also have crap like the Dominion Rod or the Spinner. These two items have a focus so small that they become completely irrelevant outside of the dungeon you get them in. They're useless stuff, just there to be there. Why is that good?

Let me be clear that I'm not talking about extra trinkets like gold skulltulas or poe spirits or gratitude crystals.

Exaggeration must be bliss. The only repeat bosses were Ghirahim (once) and The Imprisoned (twice) aside from a couple of others. There are also 12 bosses including repeats and the final boss. Yeah, no variety there! To be honest, none of the Zelda games had a huge variety of enemies either. The first two were practically nothing BUT recolored enemies. Also, you only had to return to one temple in the main quest (I guess "some" means "one"?)

The other stuff I have no objections to
