Most will probably say Wii, but other than the controls, the only difference are the couple of bonuses that were put into the PS2 version (which came after the Gamecube version).

yeah, i'm with Ravage in that i don't think it matter TOO much. personally, i'd say Wii, still, because it is slightly enhanced, with nothing lost, but the GC is probably cheaper, so it's probably what i would get if i were choosing. which i'm not, because i already happily own my GC copy.

there is no reason to choose the gamecube version; if you want, you can play the wii edition with the gamecube controller (just disconnect the nunchuck) and play it exactly as it was originally, not that anyone in their right mind would want to. add in the aforementioned extras and true widescreen support and it's an absolutely better version than the original. it even costs less, since sealed gamecube games are shooting up in price. the wii edition was already pretty cheap at release and it's only gotten cheaper ($12 at amazon)

Both games are good... but the Wii version is clearly better because it adds content without taking anything away. Also I really believe that Wii controls are a huge improvement over the traditional controls. Combat is faster and more intuitive with a pointer than an analog stick.
Unless there is a significant price difference where you live, definitely go for the Wii release!
I prefer the GC version myself.I felt the Wii controls made the game too easy. In fact I've just purchased a Limited Edition RE gamecube of E-bay as I sold my cube ages ago , I know the Wii plays GC games but its for the bedroom,(not much else happening in their at the moment LOL!).It also comes with Twilight Princess another game that plays better with a GC controller IMO. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat is also a lot better on GC. I really wish more games on wii had either GC or CC options.Swinging the Wiimote in Zelda gets boring very quickly and adds nothing to the experience ('cept a sore arm ). While I love Wii controls for some games I find that some genres really don't suit motion control.
Wiiiiiiii! The wiimote a great fit for that game. Plus the Wii version had extra stuff, I believe. I got it and would rather play all future version like this (Without a standard controller) It just feels very cool when y9u're using the wiimote as a gun.
Edit: You can open a hard mode in this too if you need more challenge.
@All: Did this have the option for the traditional controls?
It's interesting to hear from people who prefer the non-Wii controls for RE4. My brother and I both tried the game on PS2 first and couldn't get into it... then loved the Wii version because it was so much more intuitive. Guess different people will always have different opinions though.
Has anyone tried playing the Wii version with a GameCube controller? I'm curious about if/how they alter QTEs to account for not having the same buttons.
I totally don't get the "it's harder" argument. What's harder? because it's a pain to move the analog stick to target someone and it's totally inaccurate and not intuitive? I'm guessing because I didn't play RE4 on the Cube but I played RE5 and missed the Wii controls. Here's a way to make it harder... why would anyone want that kind of difficulty. That's like saying you prefer controls that are not responsive because it's harder that way.

exactly what i was going to say. there are good types of challenges and bad types, and struggling with your controller is a bad one. if you think it's too easy with the wiimote you can play on professional to counter it. and again, you can still use the gamecube controller while keeping all the extras for 1/3 of the cost of the GC disc; there literally isn't a single advantage with the gamecube version.
ejamer, the button commands reflect those on the classic controller, so instead of a big green A button you get the translucent CC one.
Totally agree about the difference between good and bad types of challenge. If you have to fight with the controls instead of using them naturally to interact with the game, then that pulls you out of the experience. (It's worth mentioning that the GameCube controls aren't bad in that way - they are just slower and a bit more mechanical than using the Wii pointer. Some people still might be more comfortable using the GameCube controls though, and there is nothing wrong with that.)
I suppose if you don't own a Wii then the GameCube version is a benefit. Heck, the GameCube version is even better then the PS2 version, and that one's updated. That's not the case though so get the Wii one, you won't be disappointed.
