And why do you believe to game trailers? The game really looks great, the only problem IGN mentioned was the hard difficulty at some levels.

Excuse me? I was merely saying that another source [Gametrailers] didn't give it such a favorable review.
Gametrailers are entitled to their opinion, just as everyone else is. They found the controls to be unresponsive, the story and dialogue to be cheesy and some levels to be unfair and frustrating.
I can't tell if I agree or disagree yet because I haven't played it. I will still wait for some reviews before buying it.
Gametrailers also said that the game lasts for about 5 hours. I don't really know if 5 hours are worth the price.

Interestingly IGN claimed it was about 11 hours. Don't know who's right just noting that there were decent sized differences in times given to beat the game from two different sources.....

Yeah, Nintendo Power gave this game a great review to. They gave it a 9.0, to be exact.
In fact, they said it was the best Sonic game since the Genisis games.

The difference in game time between GameTrailers' 5 hours and IGN's 11 hours is likely due to the fact that GameTrailers probably didn't replay any levels to look for new areas that are only accessible later in the game or to try to obtain more of the collectibles, while IGN loves that feature and listed it as the main source of replay value.

That is usually never counted as the game's play time because most of the time it will add an indeterminate amount of time to the actual play time. Otherwise, it will state that with replay value such as collecting all collectibles, etc. you are looking at an 11 hour game. So the game is probably about 4-6 hours plus whatever collecting random stuff and replaying levels for a better time adds for you. That is, if what you are saying is true.

I tend to agree with GT's reviews most of the time, that's why I'm not really sure if it's the game for me.
You guys are free to watch the GT review; I posted the link in my post above.
The 5 hours GT were referring to were just beating the game. I usually complete all my games 100 % so it should take me some more time than that.
By the way, I do think 6.4 is a bit of a harsh score considering what I've heard and seen of the game from other sources.

GT said the controls are unresponsive, right? As I understand it, the controls are very similar to the Day Stages in Sonic Unleashed. If you like the controls in (that part of) that game, I highly doubt you won't like them in this game.

@Faildude, idk, these sonic game really looks like THE sonic game, im probably gonna buy it, even if some levels can be frustrating (oh come on how many game do have frustating levels, I can count over 100, ok I haven't played 100 games but you know what I mean) and cheesy story, cheese voice? I really don't care, those factors really don't disturb my game experience, and IF it where important a story in a sonic game. So the game looks really beatifull, the levels look amazing and the powerups too.

How is Gamekult giving every game a bad or mediocre score? It's starting to seem that they actually have a different rating system than most. It's rare that they ever give a higher score than 7 to any game. Not so surprisingly, their verdict for this game was 6. Their scores are seriously affecting every games metacritic ranking too. I have yet to find a game where the score given by Gamekult would be higher than metacritics average. Usually it's much lower (20 points difference is too usual).

^^That's an inherent problem with Metacritic. Sites can (and should) choose whatever scoring system they feel best informs their readership. As long as you are familiar with how that site rates games, it doesn't matter.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

^Metacritic should either dump Gamecult or scale it's scoring system anew for their own purposes.

Gamespot gave it an 8, as well as Eurogamer, if anyone cares.

Gametrailers seems to be the odd man out on this one.

Yeah, that's basically what it seems. This game seems to be generally getting 8s, occasionally somehwta higher occasionally somewhat lower, and then the 6.4. That's pretty much as good a console Sonic outside of Sonic 4 has done since, who knows how long?

EDIT: Actually looking at Gamerankings those reviews are ABOVE Sonic 4, so yeah.

I'm inclined to believe Destructoid based on Sonic's track record. As I understand it, 4 had issues with weird physics, and judging from the gameplay videos it looks like this one has too. The jumping is way too floaty for a Sonic game.

Also, it looks like it's suffering from the same stupid control flaws that Unleashed did too, and then some. Double jump and homing bound to the same button? Really? Pick one or the other. I mean seriously, Sonic Team has such amateurish design choices sometimes. They sure know how to make a game look pretty, but you have to wonder if they ever play any video games themselves sometimes.

"It seems, however, that the further the game goes, the less the developers gave a crap, and every instance of inspiration soon gives way to the same sloppy, slapdash construction we've witnessed a dozen times before."

This makes sense, too. Other reviewers have had issues with the level design, and also said the game's at its best early on. I'll definitely just be giving this a rental. I've been waiting for a really critical review, and this one has confirmed my worst fears.

I think the double jump / homing attack design choice was a good one. Think about it. When playing 3D Sonic games: If you're near an enemy that can be homing attacked after a single jump, why would you want to double jump? How many times have you accidently done a mid-air dash into spikes or a bottomless pit when you miss the timing or angle on a homing attack (especially in Shadow the Hedgehog)? How many times has a mid-air dash like that actually been needed outside of Sonic 4 and its super slow acceleration? Besides, I heard there's still a way to do the mid-air dash if you really want to use it.

Since when did the day stages of Unleashed have stupid control flaws, anyway?

It's not really Destructoid's track record tho. It's Jim sterling's. Not to argue with you. I actually like Jim as a reviewer. He's brutally honest, which I prefer to the "a for effort" brand of reviewers. I feel like people were generally over generous toward Colors and Episode 4 because they appreciated that Sega was making an effort to cater to the old fans. Jim definitely has a track record with Sega, tho. They actually included a drawing of him as a troll with his review copy of Colors. Funny ish.

PLAYED IT over the weekend and it doesn't disappoint. Some of he very best visuals on the Wii and a great game. Som level design issues in 3D and 2D but this game is very good. 8.5 is about right for this gam.

The DS version is very good too. But low on content and no as good as the Advance and Rush series - but still very good. 8.5 for that too
