The Wii U has for pound to pound, the better games, it's not like 3D Land is going to compete with 3D World, etc., despite being the originator. However, if I had to choose one, it would be the 3DS, I find myself playing it more, and it's a nice vacation from console land,.......a place where games don't take themselves as seriously and aren't afraid to put on the charm. Digital downloads has only made mobile gaming more convenient as well.
Also, not to beat a dead horse, but I like that the 3DS has one control input and that's it, not the arguably convoluted mess of controller options that the Wii U has.
I'd probably pick 3ds as well. It's game library is really big and everyone can find something for him(her)self. Moreover I love playing on the road, at home I can always use PC for some more serious gaming (not that 3ds doesn't offer anything serious, of course!)

I disagree with the game library being big, it's somewhat limited, with a lack of action, sports, and racing titles. However, the titles it does have really help set it apart, I guess it has a unique library (a emphasis on platformers, casual sims, and JRPG's, especially in today's landscape). It's kinda like the N64 in that way (different genres though).
I would choose Wii U. (If more of the 3DS stuff was done from the ground up for it as opposed to 30fps recycled Wii technology it might be a more difficult choice).
I prefer the DS (Or GBA) in terms of what games it has what the difficulty curve is like and that they are designed just for it.

3DS because it has third party games while Wii U only has Nintendo games (and not even all of them since the main pokemon games are handheld exclusive)
I am happy that I don't really have to choose, but if that was the case I would go with Wii U.
I favour consoles over handhelds, seeing Nintendo's games in HD is glorious and I have had a ton of fun with innovative, one of a kind games like W101 and Scram Kitty. And I love having different controller options.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

3DS and PS4 is actually a great combination, you have healthy dose of software for both systems, and you can more or less run the gambit of every genre while still satisfying that Nintendo itch. With my Wii U, I am disappointed in the lack of games, despite the great first party titles.
Wii U. The 3DS doesn't seem to have much on the horizon while Wii U has a packed line up for next year, including some new experiences,
This, plus the fact that EVERY 3DS game I've played (except Fire Emblem and maybe Pokemon) was horrendously overrated. People who act like Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Smash Bros. 3DS, etc. are better than their console counterparts (or even remotely close) are crazy. I don't game on the go very often, so why choose inferior games if my limited gaming time is spent all at home (with my big-screen TV) anyway? Quality over quantity. Even older games on the Wii like Sin and Punishment Star Successor completely outclass "amazing" games like Kid Icarus: Uprising. Well, except in voice acting .

Yep. No reason to upgrade to PS4, cross gen games are still a thing for awhile (although if MGSV was current only, well...). Plus the 3DS has better third party support so thats a plus.

The 3DS. Its game library appeals to me more and I just prefer handhelds over consoles. I love platformers, simulation games, puzzle games, and jrpgs/sprgs. Some of the rhythm games are fun too. Not to mention there were a ton of fun games on the DS so backwards compatibility is nice to have on it.
