Same here. I got the Basic because I wanted it in white. All my electronics are black and it's getting a bit boring (plus white seems more Nintendo-y than black imo, even though it does look nice).
White looks whimsical, inviting and nintendo-y(even though i personally would of threw in some blue to mix things up a bit) like you said, even though black would of stood out more Vs the wii since it was already white to begin with. but as is, Black doesn't have that nintendo Zing to it, it feels like Nintendo just released it in black to grab them Hardcorez maturez gamers attention. Black would of been fine had they pulled an N64 and spiced things up by throwing in another color instead of making it one bland streamlined glossy black blob. I also much prefer the look of the white gamepad vs the black, even though black does contrast better with the screen!
The Wii U, PS4, One generation has the most boring safe console design in video game history. Consoles used to have personality, they were striking, and exciting, they weren't afraid to add color or be unique.
I would love to see them bring back the Play it Loud colors this gen. If you know what I am talking about.

Red, blue, and green would no doubt be the most popular besides what they have now.
I could see Nintendo releasing more colors if/when the Wii U starts being popular.
They want people to be able to choose whatever color they want.
EDIT: Also having different colors available would make the Wii U more distinguishable in comparison to the Xbox One/PS4's black only choice.
@Waveboy: Lol sadly during that era I only had the black N64, while it would be nice to see them give those options I agree with you and I doubt that they will go crazy like that again too. Of course they could come out with the Spice Orange color that they had for the GC. Personally I would love to see the Platinum color come back that they had for the GC and GBA. If they did come out with that color I will trade my black one in for the platinum in a heartbeat.

Totally agree. I wish Nintendo would splash a bit more color onto its consoles again (though I suppose they're wary about the whole "kiddy image" thing...) I miss the days when consoles (both home and handheld) looked like fun, unique toys. Now it seems they all have to look like serious gadgets for boring businessmen. They look very slick and classy, but they don't really look fun.

The Wii U should have launched in red, really - I mean what makes you think of Mario more than that?
@wiiincarthage: Mine only came with Nintendo Land. Darn it I got ripped off! How much did you pay? Mine was...oh that'd give away my country of origin.(but some people already know) Just tell me how much you payed.
