Hasn't Miyamoto basically confirmed that there will be a Super Mario Galaxy 3 at some point by saying that Nintendo has "Unfinished Business" with it? I mean, that's a "yes, it's coming eventually" to me...
As for what'd it'd be like, I would hope for the return of F.L.U.D.D. Maybe it'd be a mix between Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy 2. I doubt that they'd do that, though.
Regardless, I'd imagine it will be released around the middle of the Wii U's lifespan.
Seriously though, we don't need more Galaxy. Nor more Sunshine. Nor more 3D whatever. We need an all new style of 3D Mario game, not for it to become a 'rehash cash cow' like many triple A series (and New Super Mario Bros).

People say this kind of thing (not singling you out), but it's okay to make a Luigi's Mansion sequel? Or Dr. Luigi?
You can't tell me the only reason it's okay to make sequels such as those because they have Luigi in them. Or if instead of a Mario Sunshine 2 we had Super Luigi Sunshine?

1. real Luigi games(A.K.A. Luigi's Mansion and not the Mario copies) are completely different from Mario games.
2. Luigi only had 2 games that aren't copies of Mario games
3. mario had a TON of countless games
the problem isn't Mario or Luigi it's that Mario games are too many and with little time between them especially compared to real Luigi games(only 2 in about 12 years, or 11 if you live in europe)

Hopefully never. I have no idea why some fans have the tendency to want something new and fresh yet ask for sequel upon sequel of games they've already played.

Pretty much this. Galaxy 2 came out in 2010. 3D World came out in 2013. Three or four years between Mario games is the time expected for NEW 3D Mario games, not direct sequels. Revisit those about 8 or 10 years later instead, when people will think they're less 'predictable'.
It's especially bad for Galaxy, because people have whined about a sequel ever since Galaxy 2 came out. And yeah it was a good game, but honestly? I don't want to see the Galaxy series become 3D Mario's New Super Mario Bros equivalent, the 'rush it out every few years to please certain crowds' thing.
I'm sorry i'm kind of Mario out right now. When i bought my Wii U it came with New Super Mario Bros U + Super Luigi then for xmas my wife got me 3D World ,and before that i bought Super Mario World on the Wii U VC to see how it was different from the original Wii VC. And, if i so desired bad enough i got borrow my copy of New Super Mario Bros Wii back off my mum.
So i'm completely fine waiting maybe near the end of Wii U's life cycle for Super Mario Galaxy 3. I'd like to see it ,but not yet. I would actually rather see a HD collection of Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 on Wii U.
Full HD version of already beautiful graphics. The option to use either Wii remote ,or game pad. Put a map of the level laying out star locations on the gamepad ,and i'd be fine with that.

The team that made Galaxy 2 and 3D World also made Flipnote Studio and 3D Land inbetween aswell as Nes Remix.
I would prefer Nintendo to make a completely new open world 3D Mario platformer, but Galaxy 3 would be the next best thing. It will probably happen (along with All-Stars 2) in 2015, because that's the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. You don't need me to tell you how huge that's going to be.
Still, it's going to have a lot to live up to since 3D World is now the currently best Mario game of all time.
