In a recent conversation with IGN, legendary game creator Shigeru Miyamoto was asked what he would most like to see on Nintendo’s new console. He listed two franchises: Metroid and Star Fox.

I haven't played Metroid: Other M, and while the story does look really bad from what I've seen, it still looks like LOTS of fun. The whole NES-style use of the Wiimote really appeals to me for some reason. Nostalgia maybe?

Other M gets a lot of hate, mostly from Metroid Prime fanboys, and the story is ridiculous, and the game is linear, but as far as I'm concerned, it's the first true 3D Metroid game. It's what I've been waiting for ever since the n64. It's not without it's flaws, but it's still a good game regardless.
As much as I want a star fox as much as miyamoto, after the poor sales of star fox 64 3d nice knowing the franchise but now it's dead! Thank you lack of online play for killing off star fox! Even f-zero in my book has a better chance at a brand new installment than star fox. is that sad or what?!

Not changing my statements until mario party 1 gets on the virtual console.

I think the reason lots of people didn't go for the game was because it was a port of a game that isn't like Ocarina of Time in that it is the most critically acclaimed game ever made. It can be bought on the VC for 10 bucks, and it isn't the best game ever made, so there's very little incentive to buy it for $40.
But yeah, you're right in that Nintendo should have put more effort into it. No online, or even any leaderboards.
