Mario is still one of those games that sells over time. Even if one does not have an explosive start, it will still sell

Sorry to once again be negative but these are still poor numbers. Big improvement on a month ago, but those are still the numbers of a struggling console. People refer to the 3DS slow start but it was doing 40k a week in June 2011, just before the big price drop. Those numbers frightened Nintendo into making a huge decision to cut the price so early, but now similar numbers (and right before Christmas too) are apparently a sign of the Wii U being a success :s. Not saying it won't, as I really can't see much that will make the Japanese buy a PS4 anytime soon, but just had to point out the craziness of celebrating these figures.

There's no need to apologize. The Wii U numbers are still terrible.

Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

Yes the sales burst is small and probably will be short lived, but can't we be positive that the Wii U is starting to sell more rather then less in this current time? Again by regular standards the sales are pitiful, but at least the system isn't doing worse then before.

In other words try to be at least a little optimistic for once guys, that's all I'm saying.

Hey, I hate to be a buzzkill, but it's crazy to be happy about these numbers when as many as 20% of the adult population suffers from Irritable bowel syndrome.

Just sayin'.

I guess Nintendo anticipated these people's needs with that Gamepad for long sitting sessions.

It helped the PS4 nearly match the year old Wii-U's install base in about a month, so you may not be far off!

Nintendo's moto has been software sales hardwear but the Wii U is still lacking in great software. That said, nintendo is also the quiet kid in the class room that doesn't say much but when he does people stop and listen in awe. My reference being that nintendo likes to keep things quiet and announce big things at almost a point when they will be released. This coming E3 I'm guessing nintendo will announce some big heavy hitting games and who knows, maybe even something nobody would have guessed and then go on to tell us the release date for these will be in just a few months from E3 rather then almost a year away. Nintendo likes to throw big rocks in the pond while the other systems like to throw pebbles. Low sales figures, they don't spell doom for a system like nintendo.

Things are never as bad as they seem, nor as good as they appear. The Wii U will be fine. What surprises me is how desperate people who aren't fans of Nintendo are for it to die, often exaggerating the situation. Even more surprising, is that fans of Nintendo have let its critics shape the dialogue and now view the argument through the same tainted prism as its critics, thus resulting in negativity and constant doom and gloom. The WiiU has a ways to go yet, but things aren't as bad as they seem.

Sales improved. It's a good thing for everyone who calls gaming a hobby. Let's just move on, please.

It won't be fine Nintendo is in a very bad place with both the Wii U and 3DS doing poorly.

Only if Japan gets the same Knack bundle that UK got, and overall PS4 SKU supplies are just as low

Indeed, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario, and Monster Hunter all sold huge quantities (maybe millions but I'm not entirely sure). I'd like to see a proper definition of "poorly"

@DarkwingLz

As a singular product the 3DS is doing all pretty well all things considered, but its failed to hit DS levels of sales as well that its failed to meet Nintendo's own sales prediction each quarter. The sales of the hardware are fine as is, but its shown obvious signs of hardware contraction which is never a good thing.

Despite having a large warchest Nintendo is in a tough position right now. They only have two core business one of which is suffering from Market contraction and the other is currently dead in the water despite I being surpassed by its competition on both the high and low end of the Hardware market and has been pretty much abandoned by the third party software market, amid taking losses these last few quarters, Nintendo is currently in the same position that RIM was circa 2010, and the next year should help us what the plan in more.

I think Nintendo can weather the storm without losing its Identity, but they need to be prepared for another 3-4 years of somewhat hard times. Plus despite all this they're still more healthy than Sony is, which really needs a restructuring.

I get the joke but I don't think many people were buying a PS4 for Knack. They got a PS4 with Knack and even then it was the 7th most popular launch title in the UK.
