My lord this game is looking amazing! I can't wait to get Wind Waker HD for free. The roster is a tad disappointing but everything else is so good I don't care! This direct was such a nice surprise. I'm officially hyped for this!

So do you guys think the roster is complete? Or was there any confirmation?
I mean. It's weird that they've added the Coopalings and then didn't add Bowser Jr.?
He is a boss in Yoshi's New Island and NSMB U and all..

Or Diddy? Did he get some kind of irrelevant or something?..
Are Baby Rosalina and Pink-Gold Peach more important because they weren't in any game?

Didn't we see any hint that Birdo is in? But where is she/he?

It's not like the missing ones are my favourites, but why?(If they are missing)

They're prolly locked characters.

I have my main's (Yoshi and Toad) so all is good for me

Can I just say how happy I am that Bowser Jr. does not appear to be in this game. He's an awful character and I hope Nintendo continues to leave him out of their games.

Koopa Kids for life!! I've loved them ever since I first encountered them at the age of 4.

But theres also no Diddy Kong :/

Meh, my Double Dash team is Toad and Bowser Jr., so I will miss him. That said, there are seven Koopalings to choose from so it's not that big of a deal.

But Diddy Kong? No idea why they removed him.

Maybe the emphasis is that this is a Mario Kart game and we're slowly transitioning back to characters exclusive to the Mario universe. DK is a long term veteran, being in every game except one.

I personally prefer Bowser Jr. to the Koopalings. I don't really have a history with any of them, though, so it's whatever.

I don't know what everyone is talking about, it has all the necessary characters

I mained King Boo in Mario Kart Wii, so his absence does make me a bit sad. Although I ended up maining Shy Guy in MK7, and he returns here, so I may continue maining Shy Guy or go back to classic Yoshi. It's a bit sad that the 3rd row of the roster matches the 1st row, only with baby and metal characters instead. Still hoping for unlockables though. I also really wanted N64 Double Decker to return in battle mode, so I hope there's more to it than the race tracks. (although N64 Yoshi Valley and N64 Toad's Turnpike definitely help!) Those are my only gripes with the game, everything else is amazing!
