@VolcanoFlamesNL @Dave24

Thanks for the advice! I had a spot for farming lives in Galaxy 2 and you could go over 100 lives in 3D Land, but I did not know where to go in this game.

EDIT: just watched the video. It does not get more old school than that! And I had no idea you could go over 100 lives in this one too.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

I know everybody loves the Galaxy games, but this and 3D Land are two of my favourite Mario games since the SNES era.

My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."

It's not terrible because it's not Sunshine. It's terrible because it's a rehash.

Anyways, I agree, 3D World is a really great game. It's far more fun and more creative than the NSMB series.

That's not saying much, and the fact that NSMB is the bar that they're setting is exactly the problem. 3D World may be more creative than NSMB, but it's far from what we've seen in games like Sunshine and Galaxy.

We have no proof he hasn't....but given the fact that the game has crisp graphics, great controls, good multiplayer, awesome level design, and sweet music...I'm thinking you may be right, he hasn't played the game...or he has poor taste (sees Tales of Vesperia in his sig....OK, I shouldn't hate on it, but it's pretty much Abyss with a poorly developed anti hero instead of a well-developed emo kid: that's sloppy and pandering).

I played through it last December, and it blew me away. I was a bit disappointed when it was announced, because I really wanted a more open game rather than a strictly level-based one, but it's such a greatly designed masterpiece that I couldn't help but fall for it.

I still need to finish Champions Road (and that HELLISH last bonus level rihght before it) with Mario and Toad to get my 100%, though. Now that I think of it, all add that to my Holiday to-do list.

IIRC, he has said before that he tested it. But he doesn't have a Wii U. IMO, Mario 3D World is a game that is a completely different experience when playing the full thing, compared to just playing a small part of it.

I disagree...the levels have no sense of flow to them in regards to theme. They are definitely not grouped by "World". The Snow World has sunny beach levels in it etc. Playing a small part (A world or two) of it is pretty representative of the game IMO.

I love the game but I never completed Champion's Road. I wish I had 300+ lives for that as in 3D Land.

There's some sort of trick you can perform with green shells in W1-2. Guaranteed 400+ lives in less than 5 minutes!

Don't bother with the person speaking....

Thanks man! I didn't know you could this!

It's not that I "just tested it". I played the full version of the game with a friend (not the whole game, but the full version). I hated the controls, and the mechanics transplanted from 2D games irked me. But I was determined to give it another shot, so I played it multiple times at demo stations at various game stores, because I wanted to give the game a shot. But I've been continually let down.

And it's not like I just didn't like a part of the story, or the game was too difficult or too hard, or the level design was off, or anything else that, in small portions, can give a false impression of the full game. I thought the controls and the mechanics were bad, something that doesn't change mid-game. Or even from sequel to sequel. It was bad enough an experience that I've ruled out purchasing 3D Land or 3D World for more than 10 dollars.

For the record, from what I've played and seen in gameplay trailers, I actually think the level design and difficulty are spot on.

You probably do think I have poor taste. I did not like Abyss, and I'm loving Vesperia so far (though for the record, just playing a game doesn't necessarily mean you like it, I did finish Abyss after all). I was expecting Abyss to be a great followup to Symphonia, and was let down. Vesperia feels much more like an improvement upon Symphonia. See my full initial thoughts here (Post 59):

I don't know about amazing, but it's definitely a lot of fun, as well as a big improvement over the 3DS game. Not in the same league as Galaxy for me, though.

Perhaps I should play it more in multiplayer. The little amount of time I spent in that was a lot of fun, and different than my usual Mario gaming.

My feelings exactly. I still think Super Mario 64 is the best platform mario game (if you're asking for my favorite mario game of all time, that's super mario rpg: legend of the 7 stars).

Nearly fully completed this. Just need to complete the last 3 worlds with every character. This is a brilliant game and hopefully won't be forgotten down the line.

A rehash of what?

See, there we go. Saying it's not a good game and then comparing it to Sunshine. Very predictable.

I mean that it doesn't do anything that other Mario games haven't. The gameplay is the same boring style they've been sticking with post Galaxy, they haven't added any new mechanics or anything. Every game in the NSMB series and 3D series is the same thing, same moves and mechanics as every other Mario game, same Mushroom Kingdom settings and generic environments, same generic plot, the only thing they really change up now is powerups and gimmicks. The reason why people point to games like 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy is because they all added actual new mechanics to the gameplay, and in Sunshine and Galaxy's case they established a theme and designed the gameplay, settings, and storyline around it. With NSMB and 3D they all feel like generic level packs of the same game.

3D world doesn't have the same mechanics as the NSMB series. Are they similar in some ways, sure. But they are not the same. I find 3D World has a focus on Tools that you find and use in special ways, like the Baseball, Ice Skate, Flashlight Box, Canon Box, and the Potted Piranha Plant. The Power ups were also present in the game but other than the Cat Suit the others weren't focused on too much

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

New levels
Bigger levels
New gameplsy mechanics
New power-ups
New items and objects
New level themes
New story
Better controls than 3D Land
You can play as 5 different characters, a feature NEVER before-seen in a 3D Mario game
4-players for the FIRST TIME in a 3D Mario game
First 3D Mario game in HD
New boss fights
New enemies
Captain Toad levels
New music
etc.

Yep. Totally a rehash.

@Bolt_Strike You complain about this game being a "rebash", yet, your icon is Pokèmon. LMAO, you have no right to call this game a rehash.
