Go to 1:56. The ZL and ZR buttons look analog to me. But that would mean that GameCube games would have to use the ZL and ZR buttons for the L and R buttons, and likely the R button for the Z button. That could be confusing in some cases. Nintendo should just make all four shoulder buttons analog, anyway.

Also, I really hope the Wii U gets gamecube games. I mean, if they have Wii U retail games on the eshop, I don't see any reason they couldn't put gamecube games on there. Andr even Wii or DS games, since they could technically be played with the Wii U gamepad and tv. There's plenty of good games on the gamecube. And hopefully the gamecube's vc game selection won't have a big hole in it like the n64's does (Rare's games).

Well, the N64 had a L, R, and Z button. So... I don't see why it would be hard to do GCN games

I don't, either. Who said it would be?

If they do not have GC games for download, I just hope they remake the the favorites either by using Wii U or adding more to the New Play Control series.

@DudeSean: Those... don't look analog to me. Look how short the distance is between the height of the button and the plastic casing. You can't really fit a whole lot of varying levels of pressure in that space...

GCN games would be nice, but I'd rather they focus on adding more to the abysmal N64 selection first. I own a GameCube and can buy games for it at the store; I don't have a 64. Of course, that scenario doesn't apply to everybody.

Yeah Nintendo can do it, all they have to do is make a GCN VC controller.

Nope! They've got the Wii Classic Controller to do that.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

I'm not holding my breath. They'd have to come out with a controller that has analog triggers, and with the Pro Controller not having them I just don't see it happening.

I wouldn't give up hope yet. The Pro controller might end up with analog triggers when it hits the shelf, and even if they don't many GameCube games didn't use the analog triggers. Another idea to consider is the Wii U Pro controller has click sticks and the GameCube controller didn't. That means the Pro controller has two extra buttons that could be used to map secondary trigger functions to, if they really needed to. Maybe not the most ideal way to play Mario Sunshine, but conceptually doable.

...in my pants.

Maybe the'll release a Wii U gamecube controller. Yeah, it'd be better if they just gave the pro controller analog triggers, but you never know.
Those analog triggers were a pretty big feature for the device, by the way. It was one of the main draws in Sunshine, it allowed for Melee to have two different types of shielding, Rogue Squadron 2 used it for different styles of boosting/braking, Wave Race used it for different forms of acceleration (I think), Luigi's Mansion let different ways of firing fire and ice, etc.

I think this is how the controls would be mapped

Gamecube controls on left, Wii U control transition on right

A= A
B = B
X = X
Y = Y
Start = Start
Select = Z
L = L ( light push)
ZL = L ( hard push)
R = R ( light push)
ZR = ( hard push)
Left analog stick = Analog Stick
Right analog stick = C Stick
D-Pad = D-Pad

If the triggers turn out to be analog, Z could be relocated to R. While L and R would be ZL and ZR respectively.

PS2 face buttons are analog. Xbox face buttons are analog. A button cannot be too short to be analog. What matters is what's on the inside.

reading some recent impressions from the wii-u events in the US, seems like the shoulder buttons on the UPad and certainly the Pro Pad are digital. kind of a big deal for many GameCube games. maybe Nintendo can bring back the GCN pad with a USB adapter of some sort.

Wow, this thread is turning into another debate about the triggers. I'm sure someone will have answers soon. The launch is only a few months away.

We'll probably find out the answers to everything in September.
