Topic: Best Smash Bros Game??

It's pretty tough to say, really. All of them, except 64, have a few things that make them better than another. And I say this as someone who has played each game extensively.

Smash U beats 3DS, as it is mostly the same game with even more punch; however, Smash 3DS has a stronger single-player aspect. Smash Run is infinitely better than Smash Tour, at least if you're alone against CPU's. Smash U also has the most bonus content of any game, having what previous games had and adding to it, such as Trophies, music, Masterpieces, etc. — not to mention housing the largest roster yet, and even adding to the variety with custom fighters and Mii fighters.

I would say that Smash U also has the best multiplayer aspect of any game thus far. 8-player Smash, Special Brawls, Smash Tour, and the ability to play co-op on any of the previously solo-only modes (Classic, Home-Run, Online, Trophy Rush, etc.) makes this one of the best games to play with company.

Yet, Brawl probably has the best single-player mode, as I think Subspace Emissary, despite its flaws, trumps the other modes as it offers a cinematic adventure campaign that can keep you entertained for a while; if that's what you're looking for. Melee's is better for simpler, shorter doses, and, in my opinion, traveling to various Nintendo worlds is more fun than the overworld in SE and Smash Run. Unfortunately Smash Wii U lacks a mode anything like this.

And so that brings me to Melee — probably the most important entry in the franchise, being the best-selling GameCube game, allowing its popularity to grow and the competitive scene to flourish. Not to mention also bringing Fire Emblem to light in the West. One thing it didn't get right was it's amount of clones and unbalancing, something that Smash Wii U has greatly improved on, alowing only a couple clones and some semi-clones — and balancing through online updates should keep the game in-check for a while.

Melee has comparatively a smaller multiplayer aspect than its single-player one, but its speed and technicality is what makes it better for those who want to be competitive. However, if you want to get competitive, then Project M is the best option hands down, as it mixes everything good about Brawl and Melee plus more into one game.

I also feel like Smash 64 doesn't have much going for it besides nostalgia, despite how much I love it. Every other game after it adds in some way or another.

So I would say that it depends on what someone is looking for. If you want strong multiplayer, Smash Wii U is best. If you want single-player, Brawl or maybe Melee are good. And for competitive play, Melee is the best official game, but Project M is better by miles. It's very tough to call, but I would rank the games as such:

Smash Wii U > Project M > Melee > Smash 3DS > Brawl > 64

Not played Smash Wii U, but I still say Brawl, even with the 3DS version. One reason why I prefer Brawl is the music. EPICNESS.

I have not played the Wii U version of Smash 4 or Smash 64, so at this point I would say that Smash for the 3DS is my favorite. I love the portability, I love the size of the available stages, I definitely love the size and diversity of the roster and I've enjoyed Smash Run coupled with their take on Classic Mode.

I don't get how people can make a decision on Smash 4 yet. For me, I'm really unsure between it and Melee. Melee was faster, but Smash 4 has a bigger sense of scale and power, and some really neat characters, while not feeling lethargic and floaty like Brawl.

When I played Brawl, I knew it felt different, so that was much more of an immediate effect.

I probably have over 50 hours in Smash 4 already, how long do people need to play it before they can make a decision about it? It is probably longer than I played Brawl

I've spent a ton of time in Smash 4 too, but I still haven't tried every character, and I haven't gotten to play with real people yet. I definitely know I have more fun than I do with Brawl, but Melee is a lot tougher to beat.

I think Melee has finally been dethroned.

Smash Bros for Wii U is unbelievable.

Smash 4. Never played Brawl, didn't care for the original, and Melee was too fast.

Are people still preferring Melee over everything... seriously... Melee is NOTHING compared to Super Smash Bros for Wii U. NOTHING.

I think one confusing aspect is that some people refer to "Smash 4". People might perhaps think that Melee might be better than the 3DS, and assumes that the Wii U will be about the same.

Well the fundamental gameplay is about the same is it not?

Since the CPU players seems to be more difficult in the Wii U version, the stages are different, the gaming modes are different, the controllers used are different, the graphics is substantially different, I'd say the gameplay between these 2 versions are not interchangeable.

I mean the fighting. Each fighters moves and the way they fight.

I'm not saying the games are interchangeable, but if I'm trying to understand how regular Smash mode plays in Wii U, is Smash 3DS not an adequate indicator?

I've never played Melee, but Smash N64 gets points for nostalgia, and Brawl gets points for the Sub-space Emissary. Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U Ultimately wins for best game balance, online, characters, and, of course, graphics. At least, its the best that I've played so far.

Got married.

With very few exceptions, I tend to lean on the lastest entry in a series as my favorite and/or best. With that Smash Bros for the Wii U is the best with all the new features, fighters, modes, music, classic mode, control varieties and other stuff the added in or improved on. I haven't played online yet but I can imagine it being less laggy then brawl.

In terms of competitive play, it blows it out of the water.

Smash Mains:
N64: Captain Falcon
Melee: Mario
Brawl: Sonic
Project M: Link
Smash 3DS: Captain Falcon
Smash Wii U: Ganondorf

Too soon to tell, but we may know in a year. But it's definitely not 64 or Brawl.

In terms of actual fighting, which is what the game revolves around, Melee and Smash U are the best in the series.

Smash 64 was too floaty, and Brawl's actual combat was ... bad.

In terms of single-player options, I think Brawl has them all beat. While Melee and 64 both had adventure modes, break the targets, etc, Brawl had a real good, dedicated single-player experience. Smash 3DS's Smash Run is garbage, and Smash U is missing a single-player mode altogether.

As an overall package, however, I think Smash U is the best entry in the series so far. It has many levels, so many trophies, the music is fantastic, the fighting is great (not as good as Melee, but better than 64 and Brawl). Negatives include all the characters, some of which are incredibly pointless (like Duck Hunt and Wii Fit Trainer). I also find it frustrating that I keep getting customization items, of which I care absolutely ZERO, instead of coins or trophies. But overall, I think it's the best game in the series.

People keep going back to Melee, because the fighting itself was perfect. Smash U isn't quite as perfect, but the other aspects of the game make up for it. We'll never have another Melee, but this comes very close.

Smash U > Melee > Brawl > 64 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3DS — I regret getting this game, and I wish I could return it, but I downloaded it and now I have it ... forever.

Since everyone is making these greater than list I will too

Wii U> 3DS> Melee> 64> Brawl

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
