So yeah, if you have Mario Kart 8, please list your favourite combinations of character, kart/bike/atv, wheels and glider.
I feel like it would help some people.
My favourite is

  • Any baby character
  • Duke bike
  • Roller Wheels
  • MKTV Parafoil.
(Oh and I'm sure this topic has been made before, if it has, please link me to it! Thanks )

I use the heaviest characters with the fastest wheels and kart, then use a glider with more acceleration.

I tend to go for Bowser with the combination that gives me the best speed. Although for some tracks it's much better to have a lighter character with a kart that has high grip. Sometimes I do some middle ground if I'm going online like Bowser with the fast body and monster truck tires.

My killer Kombo is Yoshi in the Jet Bike (this will change to Yoshi Bike, when I finally unlock it) with the Cyber Slick tires and a MKTV Parafoil (though any accel glider will do, really.) I find this corners well, but ironically has trouble with short cuts and general handling on my favorite new track: Mount Wario. In most cases, however, it's a perfectly good, well-balanced combo with an emphasis on handling, speed, and acceleration.

I don't think there are really any "best" combinations? This is influenced so heavily by personal play style that I can imagine that just about every combination possible is best for someone out there.

I really like customizations that combine speed and handling. I usually choose a medium weight character, accompanied by the Comet Bike, slick tires, and a decent glider. Handling allows we to do some nice inside drifting for sharp turns.

I only care about weight and speed!
So I can push over all these little tiny itty bitty babes.

Agreed. I don't think there is any combination of parts that makes a kart "better" than any other. I just use Shy Guy with his regular kart, wheels and hang glider and I've wom probably 70-75% of the online races I've played so far. I never change any parts on the kart regardless of who I am using and I usually do quite well.

Over the next few years, lap records will continually be beaten, the consensus of what is the best vehicle will change and people will learn more and more about the game's nuances. For now I am trying to enjoy the learning phase, trying new vehicles and configurations each time and winning almost every grand prix with 3 stars. With MKW I was too scared to experiment and it took me a few weeks to realise that bikes had loads of advantages!

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

I currently use Yoshi, with the Sports bike, slim wheels, and MKTV Parafoil. This combo has really nice drift, and the speed is good too.

On a side note, what's the difference between handling and traction?

I usually go for a balanced approach with a medium weight character. I try to get some extra speed when I can, so some wheels and Karts I use pretty frequently. Two I enjoy are the Pipe Frame and Circuit Special, but I'll try plenty of combos.

I try not to use bikes, though, as I don't like them.

Beep.
That is all.

whoa, DK just gave Luigi the death-stare.

He tried to. If you notice, the moment Luigi turns to him he turns away. Wonder why...?

Traction - How good the tires grip on less than ideal surfaces (snow, dirt etc)
Handling - How easily the Kart moves around corners

Anyone using those tiny wheels that look like skateboard/scooter ones?

My Shy Guy rides in the budbuggy, with cushion wheels and cloud hanger. Perfect!

I been struggling to find a speeder that I really liked. One with the right speed capabilities and an open cockpit......

I think I have to have inside drift.....so that limits my choices.

I think I have settled on Peach in the sports bike with Slim wheels and her Parasol......but I just unlocked slick wheels so I may try that.

Just like in Mario Kart 7 I find the random order that things unlock in make it more difficult to find that one combination/kart that just feels right.

Flame Rider + Slick --- Love it.

But I use Gold Wheels now and then. Looks Fancy!
