Thanks Turnip I did discover this while checking Amazon earlier and think I may have mentioned it in a later post. However I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know none-the-less.

Off topic but I love your avatar I have seen you around the site and wanted to say so a few times now.

@Edie

Like someone else said, if you haven't played the Sly Cooper or Jak games and you like the adventure/platforming genre, you owe it to yourself to give them a whirl. A PS3 is definitely a sweet buy these days, even just to experience those games.

I'm guessing you know about Yoshi's Wooly World for the Wii U? It should be coming out sometime next year, and is from the same people that made Kirby's Epic Yarn.

I bought a PS3 just for that game! I was so obsessed with it.
It's definitely a game more enjoyable with friends or at least playing with other people online. The "story mode" levels aren't anything special. It's the online levels that have been created by other players that really stand out. Some of them are just amazing.

It's a good toolbox if you're into building your own levels and whatnot. I always found the controls to be a little...... meh.

EDIT: I believe the third game is available on PS3 as well. Nonetheless, the PS3 is a great system to look into right now since you can get tons of fantastic games for dirt cheap prices. I played the PS3 to death in high school

Although the other games CanisWolfred and Peach64 mentioned are appealing as well. I've just come across "Mario Maker" and I know this is likely not news for most if not all of you who will be reading this thread but I am newer than most I imagine. It doesn't provide a new series to play it does satisfy part of my interest in "Little Big Planet" with it's own level creator and I'm sure as it's a Mario game the platforming will be solid. Maybe I'll just wait for it to be released and dream of "Kirby's Epic Yarn 2"...

I dunno if you're aware but Yoshi's Wolly World is a thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vR8EHatIIE

And yeah, Mario Maker looks like it'll scratch that creative itch while also being a good game.

It's a good tool box, but the physics are floaty and inconsistant, which as a platformer is unforgivable. I simply cannot stand playing it when it actually requires me to jump or move between planes, which the singleplayer does a lot of. If you want to play user-generated content, it's probably great, especially the not-platformer ones. Just don't go in expecting a decent singleplayer platformer...

This is pretty much my opinion on the series as well. I can spend hours creating levels which is great, but it boggles my mind why they haven't improved the platforming mechanics. I've fallen too my death in these games way too many times when I shouldn't have.

30fps is a waste of time always was and always will be. (No excuse for not making the PS4 version of the latest one work properly).

I disagree with the first part, but I agree with the general idea that the PS4 version was a waste when they didn't bother improving the basics...

I played a bit of the first game once and enjoyed it, but in that Epic Yarn way where the game would be like a 7/10 at absolute best without the way the game looked.

I love how the commercial for this game said... "While everyone is making the same big game..." I couldn't help but laugh. Didn't LBP3 turn out to be a diaster? I still wanna try the series one day

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to leave a comment. I may get a PlayStation 3 but it will be after Christmas there are just to many Wii/U 3/DS games on my radar at the moment.

I am aware of this and have pre-ordered (hoping for "Special Edition" with Woolly Yoshi Plushie) as far as I know no date has been set yet but I am sad enough I check every day.

I am so, very excited! For this game I have quickly grown to love Yoshi and I love games that involve fabric apparently... I did end up watching some gameplay trailers last night and aw I want it now. >_<

The only negative things thus far about the game in my opinion are:

No. 1 No Kirby obviously it's major setback.

No. 2 I would like to see a the theme carried on into a new Mario series but that seems unlikely I can't see Nintendo using the same idea in three different games.

No. 3 The Yoshi game although I'm sure it will bring me many hours of enjoyment was time spent not making "Kirby's Epic Yarn 2". Anywho I digress.

Thanks again all much appreciated.

I really wonder why they couldn't be bothered with that. Surely the game isn't that heavy?

The level creation is glorious and is undeniably deep and engaging to work with, but the platforming is garbage compared to stuff like Rayman and Mario. Sackboy moves much more slowly than most platform characters and his jump is floaty, slow and a bit too short. If you like level creation then I'd say give it a try, if not, then try some of the other platformers Sony have to offer.

The single player is decent with good voice acting, but in multiplayer it's a great game to work together and get the most out of the story levels. There are lot's of fun user created levels to play online too and making levels yourself is suprisingly enjoyable. Though the create mode is deep, it is limited by some UI problems.

The Puppeteer is a far better visual experience, but the gameplay is too simple and it doesn't have the multiplayer goodness to save it either.

I'm not interested in getting LBP 3 because it looks too much of same despite having some nice new characters. I'm also not interested in buying games on PS3 that have a PS4 version(will get those on PS4 when I eventually get one in a few years).

CanisWolfred

Not ever platformer needs super-complex systems. Sometimes simpler is better, especially for platformers. The more complex the machine, the easier it is to break, after all. Some of the best platformers I've played rely on one mechanic and just go as far as humanly possible with it.

Even though I don't agree that Puppeteer is simpler than LittleBig Planet unless 3 added some new mechanics I'm not aware of? Because LBP just has jumping, climbing (which only works half the time >_<), plane-shifting (which is completely unecessary here), item collecting, simple physics puzzles, and some gimmicks like ropes and jetpacks. Maybe not as simple as something like N+ or VVVVVV, but Puppeteer has most of that except the plane-shifting (but instead utilizes the environment in ways that makes sense, especially within the context of the game) and the climbing mechanics actually work. Plus it has: multiple heads that all have unique gimmicks, and the heads act as lives/rings, keeping you alive; scissor mechanics that also lets you fight enemies and do certain environmental puzzles; and it has a story that's kinda neat and not just random globe-trotting. The first one alone adds a lot of depth to the experience.

I really don't think LBP3 would justify the purchase of a PS4, no, but as others have said, the PS3 is a great value right now. All three LBP games are there, plus the excellent Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Sly Cooper HD trilogies, as well as oodles more. Late in its life cycle, Sony really started to pump out collections and remasters, most of them can be picked up for a 20. If you've never gotten into the Sony ecosystem before, the PS3 would be the best value now. For $500, you could walk into a store and walk out with a PS3, an extra controller, and about 20 games, all brand new.

It won't be another year or two before the PS4 is worth owning (in my opinion), and if you're really only into platformers, it may never be.

Before I respond, I feel like I should point out that this is a Nintendo focused site, so a lot of the responses will be from people who've never played it claiming to hate the game. The NLife community is good, but there is the occasional troll.

I admit I've only played a few levels in the game, but it was good. Plus, any game that you can play FF7 in is good imo (or just generally make awesome user created stuff in).

That's really cool, but to actually play it, I feel like the novelty of playing FF7 as a mediocre platformer would wear off really fast...

@SpookyMeths Thanks for your comment, it looks likely I will get a PlayStation 3 after Christmas at some point. Those games plus others are attractive and there are other titles of interest to me sadly not available on Wii/U.

I knew when buying my Wii U that it did not have great third party support. However there are many games at first look like they'd be at home on the Wii U that sadly won't be coming. Case in point "Skullgirls" yes I could play it on my Boyfriend's PC or a Playstation 3 if I buy one but why no Wii U release? I'd even buy two copies damn Konami.

@SkywardLink98 I have never played a "Final Fantasy" game so I am unaware of what is so good about "VII". I am aware it has a large following on the internet although I can't say if this is justified or not. From what I have seen the newer games in the series have very good graphics perhaps too much for the Wii U? I don't see myself getting heavily involved with a a "JRPG" series that is not on the Wii/U for various reasons if I am honest.

@Edie The big deal about someone recreating FF7 in LBP, is less that FF7 was remade, and more than you can recreate games in LBP.
