Series: Kingdom Hearts series - The story may be a convoluted mess by this point, but the gameplay remains solid consistently, and it's always fun exploring your favorite classic Disney worlds in new ways. Barring remakes/re-releases, I've played every entry in the series other than Birth by Sleep (because I never had a PSP). Runners up would be Final Fantasy (played a few games in the series, but have only beaten one main line game. If I had beaten more, it may be number one), Pokémon (Very solid series, but I haven't played since gen 3), and various Mario RPGs (scattershot amongst the various Mario RPG series, so hard to say on any one particular series).

Individual Game: Final Fantasy X - While the first KH game nudged me into the genre, this is the game that really made me stay for good. I loved the "Conditional Turn Based" battle system, and the story was deeper than anything else I had experienced in a game up until that point (I was even a fan of the cheesy love story). Interestingly enough, it's the only main FF game I've beaten (though I'm currently retrying FFIV, which I liked the first time around, but never finished). Runners up are Kingdom Hearts, Tales of the Abyss, Pokémon Silver, & Paper Mario (N64).

Honestly, and I hate to say this, but it's probably Pokémon. They're reliable, have tons of content, and I always play through them to the very end. I simply can't say that about any other series. Ys is up there too, but Ys 3 and 5 make it so I can't say it for every game in the series.

It kind of sucks, because my top 10 RPGs would maybe have one Pokémon game in them. Shin Megami Tensei is usually solid, but stuff like Soul Hackers rubbed me the wrong way. Persona has the problem of the first two games. Final Fantasy has some missteps like 2 and 8. Tales games vary in quality, with Vesperia and Symphonia being great, while others not as enjoyable for me. Paper Mario has the awful stain of Sticker Star. Mass Effect 1 and 2 are incredible, but 3 rubbed me the wrong way. Xenoblade, The World Ends With You, Radiant Historia, and Skies of Arcadia are all standalone games. I also want to say the same about Chrono Trigger, because it and Chrono Cross are so different that I can't see them as part of the same series.

My favorite RPG game is hard to choose. The World Ends With You and Mass Effect 2 are probably my favorites, but Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade, and Persona 3/4 are right up there.

That's tough to say. Every series has at least one game in it I don't like like. Granted I don't call a bunch of games a "series" until it has more than 3 games...

Let me try this:

Shin Megami Tensei has 14 games I really enjoyed, while there are only 2 that I wasn't too keen on. Only one would I consider truly bad.

Ys has 9 games I enjoyed while I wasn't too keen on two of them, both of which have been retconned and one had questionable canonality in the first place.

Final Fantasy 13 main games I enjoyed to varying degrees - 5 of them I wasn't too thrilled with, but I still managed to enjoy despite their gretuitous flaws. Only one game did I actually regret playing.

Dragon Quest had 7 I really enjoyed, but two I didn't enjoy, and techincally 3 of them required remakes before I could enjoy them...

Tales had 7 games I greatly enjoyed. However, almost all of the handheld entries were bad, I've yet to play 3 of the console entries (two of which were Japan-only), and two of the console entries I did play weren't very good.

Pokemon had 5 games I greatly enjoyed (I'm counting each generation as one game because it should've been one game each gen those damn stupid money-grubbing cheapskates!!!), plus 2 remakes, and one I didn't like. But at the same time, only 2 of them really left an impact on me past the age of 10...

@sleepingmudkip - if Advanced Wars is an RPG then I'm your grandpa.

Baldur's Gate series. Especially the second. They don't make them like that any more. Bioware, why aren't you making them like that any more? sigh

Favorite RPG is without a doubt Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross, interchangeably, depending on which I'm playing at the time.

Favorite series is a little harder. Final Fantasy is very special to me, even if I'm disappointed with the direction it has taken in the last couple of generations. Due to about 4 or 5 Final Fantasy games occupying my top 20 JRPGs, I might have to say it's my favorite JRPG series, but it's still hard to call it that when I've had a blast with one FF game in the last 15 years (FFX and XIII are alright to play, but I wasn't thrilled).

Fire Emblem, in my opinion, has been much more consistently good. Since coming to the West, there hasn't been a bad game, though Shadow Dragon is fairly dull. Persona and Etrian Odyssey, despite both having relatively few games, are both consistently fantastic. The greater Shin Megami Tensei series, I haven't fully explored yet, but I've liked all of what I've played so far (Devil Survivor, Nocturne, SMTIV). Tales has been a series that epitomizes great gameplay with poor story/characters, but I've enjoyed most of them to some or great degree.

For Western RPGs, it's the Dragon Age series. Even the "controversial" Dragon Age II, where EA basically told BioWare "Hey, that's a cool game you made, make another! Oh, and we need it done in 6 months. And make it more accessible, less of that tactical stuff, more action." But they still managed to crank out a fun and engaging game, even if it wasn't as good as Origins. Seems for Inquisition though, EA stepped back and let BioWare have all the time and money they needed to make the game they really wanted, and I appreciate that.

I feel like I should get more into Dragon Quest because I think I would like them a lot. I have IV, V, VI, VIII, and IX, but I've barely played any of them yet. They're on my to do list.

Good old fashion pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons. Yeah you have to use your imagination but I had so many good times with it with my friends that I still haven't found a video game RPG that can copy that same feeling.

It's impossible to choose. It's my favourite genre, as broad as it is, so I have quite an extensive background to choose from (and my opinion is almost definitely correct). It'd have to be one of the following:

Final Fantasy: 6,7,9 and 10 are pretty much the 4 best games I've ever played. It's the rest of the series that's problematic.

Mass Effect: Probably the greatest RPG series on the whole (i.e by average quality). All 3 entries were brilliant in slightly different ways and a great example of a successful series that's consciously made for adults rather than teens. Just ignore the final ending.

Skies of Arcadia: Plenty of flaws but this game just nailed perfectly something that most games don't even seem to consider. It has heart. A bit like Xenoblade Chronicles and Windwaker to some extent, the game is almost a success before anything actually happens because it's just intrinsically enjoyable existing in this fictional world.

To The Moon- Just one of the most touching heart-warming stories ever captured in a game. Simple as that.

ETRIAN ODYSSEY! Seriously though, I hadn't heard of the series for a long time and got the 4th one on a whim. I couldn't believe I missed out on the series for so long. It's like, just about everything I wanted in a video game.

Series-wise, I'm gonna be the first one here to say the Earthbound/Mother series. Even though it wasn't my first RPG series nor the last, I still savored every last bit of the playthroughs I did in the series (Specifically Earthbound and Mother 3, played Mother 1 but never got far enough to determine whether I liked it or not). It also has a weird, yet dark charm to it. Like Adventure Time, but more modern.

Game wise, I'm gonna say Pokemon Sapphire. I couldn't decide which game in the Pokemon series I wanted to go with (They're all good), but in the end I went with Sapphire. It was my first Pokemon game, as well as handheld game in general. Being able to choose your own adventure depending on 6 out of the 386 Pokemon you can use is just amazing, even if it has been surpassed by today's Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, where with the help of X and Y, you can obtain all 719 currently released Pokemon. But, even then, I just didn't get the same feel out of Alpha Sapphire that I did with Sapphire. I enjoyed Sapphire back in 2004, and I still do to this day, even with Alpha Sapphire out. Even though this choice was picked entirely by nostalgia, I'd rather have something decided by memories than force myself to decide on something that I don't really like.

tl;dr - Earthbound is my favorite RPG series and Pokemon Sapphire is my favorite RPG game.

Game would be Mother 3 because it has a very good almost not grind-y battle system and an excellent art style (and animation) and music in the best narrative in gaming.
Series would be Mass Effect because of semi-consistent high quality and incredible long-term storytelling while also being a cover based shooter I actually like.

Favourite series - Dragon Quest
Favourite entry - Dragon Quest VIII

To me, nothing else comes close. It's the colour, humour, music, gameplay, tone and general atmosphere of them.

Every game Bioware has made since KOTOR has been KOTOR. Dragon Age is fantasy KOTOR. Mass Effect is sci-fi KOTOR. Even Jade Empire was Chinese KOTOR. But KOTOR was a damn good game, and so are all the others.

My favourite RPG would be Ar Tonelico II or PERSONA 4, but my favourite series is either Disgaea, Pokémon, or Golden Sun.

Chrono Trigger, Pokemon (though I'm noticing that I'm falling out of love with it), and just about everything Bioware has done.
