I don't know if they meant that as a tribute but I think that for Mega Man fans that will be treated as an insult. The bulky crappy drawing doesn't even resemble the sumo wrestler they are trying to include as Mega Man. It's like they are throwing the middle finger to Keiji Inafune and his beloved franchise.
Street Fighter/Tekken Vs Mortal Kombat ain't gonna happen. Why? The Japanese don't care about MK. Gore and ultra-violence isn't a big selling point there. MK is based on western stereotyped views of martial arts. The series is no longer current (or well-regarded in its current form). Recent MK games haven't been particularly well-received. The studios don't want to see their beloved, long-lasting and famous characters ripped apart in gory fatalities. (And no SF/Tekken character could do the same back, without huge changes to their movelist or fighting style.) I could go on.
Not saying MK is a bad game - just that the crossover won't happen.
You do know that Street Fighter is more over the top than Mortal Kombat right? Aside from the gore and fatalities, Mortal Kombat bases much of it's fighting on existing martial arts. The original MK games used motion-capture of stunt performers to act out the characters' moves.
And the new version of Mortal Kombat (MK9) was very well received, both critically and commercially. Don't know where you got the info "the series is no longer well-regarded", cause MK9 successfully brought the series back to it's roots.
I refuse to call that lard*ss abomination Mega Man.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

If Capcom really hated Mega Man they wouldn't have made Mega Man 9 and 10, or put any Mega Man characters in Tatsunoko vs Capcom or Marvel vs Capcom 3.
This version is just a humorous homage to the horrible Mega Man 1 and 2 NES boxart.

I don't count Zero as being Mega Man.
Well, if Capcom really hated Mega Man they wouldn't have made Mega Man 9 and 10, or Mega Man Powered Up, or Mega Man X - Maverick Hunter.

Yeah! For everyone complaining about Capcom for having this Mega Man being included, it's all Inafune's fault. He hates all of you complainers, suck it.*

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.
Oh you crazy Japanese and your broken English. How I love your culture, so unique and bizarre. And your games are great too.
Something I just realized, Xbox 360 is practically dead in Japan, yet all these Japanese developers are still making games for it. If the Xbox 360 is popular with Japanese developers, then why aren't the Japanese gamers buying it as well? Microsoft even helped publish quite a few Japanese games, yet the Xbox 360 is still ignored over there.
I have 2 things to say 1: BEHOLD ONO'S PSYCO (acting) POWER 2: It's only a funny joke to die hard Mega Man fans. I like it. And let's face it this was Megaman's classic design. If you don't like it, buy the XBox or PC version. 3: I can see "but for me it was Tuesday" being the next "Then I got an arrow in the knee"

I've been a Mega Man fan since I was two years old and this does not amuse me in any shape or form. Also, the original game's Japanese cover art looks decidedly different than that sh*tty old American art.
By the way, just so you know, "But for me, it was Tuesday" has been around ever since the live-action Street Fighter movie came out eighteenish years ago. (Wow was it really that long ago?)
