It's a nostalgic dream come true! I at least want it on PC since I don't have a "Wii U".

Who are you?

Wise and Kirkhope?! Legendary status confirmed! 8D

On those two characters: I think they're either grunt level enemies, or the equivalent of Klungo for this game.

Well Wise did a great job with Tropical Freeze, so I know the music here will be awesome then. lol

Just for good measure; Grant is ''officially'' part of the team, the second composer:

''Second composer candidate. Didn’t turn up. Instead blared music down the phone until we begged him to stop. Grant Kirkinghope, or something?''

The third composer is Steve Burke, he worked for Rare during the Dark Microsoft ages (I'm not familiar with his work);

Burke was the main composer for Kameo: Elements of Power, Rare's first X360 game.

This does have a chance to be published by Nintendo, but I seriously doubt they'd up and buy the company. They love to publish well made titles, though. So, who knows?

The thing is that first person platforming doesn't really work. You need to be able to see the ground to effectively platform, and you can't do that in first person. If you noticed, the FPS sections in Banjo-Tooie were gimmicks, the gameplay was completely different and there was no platforming in them. So you can either make it first person or you can make it a platformer, not both.

It worked perfectly fine in Metroid Prime. but that's besides the point, I really think even if Nintendo takes charge and publishes this, they will let them do their thing with their own characters. This is a perfectly experienced and capable team who is doing what they love, and I have zero doubt in their abilities to satisfy me as a N64 Rare collectathon enthusiast.

Metroid Prime greatly reduced and simplified the platforming to the point of being practically mindless though, so they didn't really get away with it.

And thankfully, had they included more complex platforming it would've been a nightmare.

Some of the "jump from platform a to platform b" segments in Metroid Prime are frustrating enough.

If the middle option, then this thread will have to be moved. Yes, I'm assuming that this game will be on Wii U.

eShop is a given if it comes to the Wii U. Retail depends on the publisher I think, if they can find a proper one. Some big indie games got their own retail version (Teslagrad for example), and Playtonic is anything but a small indie company. I think that this game has more chance that it will end up as a physical game than any other indie game.

I would put it on retail. Between Nintendo fans having ALL the nostalgia for Rare, and the lack of retail competition on Wii U, I think it would out quite well.

Which is exactly my point, that kind of platforming doesn't work well in first person.

A collectathon pretty much needs to be retail, collectathons are pretty large and open ended games.

They need a publisher? The other small ex-Rare group on the eShop (Nyamyam) self-published Tengami. And they are just 3 people. If they need a publisher they could ask their former colleagues. It seems weird they cannot self-publish.

Anyway I like how the Playtonic logo is gold/darkblue like Rare's old logo.

Looking forward to that revival! I bought all N64 Rare games day one. I have Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie of course, sitting next to Killer Instinct Gold, GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Diddy Kong Racing and Donkey Kong 64, all in mint condition.

The size of the game doesn't really matter. Although I'm sure that they're looking into it, it isn't a given. A game like A Hat in Time probably isn't going to end up as retail, even though that's a large collectathon as well. It depends on whether they can find a publisher or not.

If they can find a publisher, and get a retail release for this game, or even just a limited retail release, I would be all over that. Either way though, I'm getting this game, downloadable or not.

@SKTTR has a point, They probably do want a retail release if they think a publisher is so important. Otherwise it wouldn't be too hard to self-Publish as a downloadable title.

Because Third Person Shooting is not a thing, Am I right?

No.

I didn't say it wasn't. But if they did go that route, it wouldn't quite be the same as Banjo-Kazooie, defeating the purpose of it being a spiritual sequel.

Wait, were we still talking about the theoretical Duck Hunt game? That's what I thought we were talking about during that tangent. Just to continue tangenting, I think it would still be interesting if Nintendo did a Duck Hunt Action-Platformer themselves. The sky's the limit now that B-K's getting its own "spiritual successor", so they don't have to pander to that audience. I could see them doing a platformer with some shooting elements, sort of like Ratchet & Clank but with more focus on platforming and possibly exploration instead of crazy weaponry.

I actually think that's what they are turning splatoon's single player into. They said it was a platformer with shooting.

So apparently David Wise is also involved in the project: http://www.gonintendo.com/s/247416-playtonic-grabs-3-rare-com...

And I thought I couldn't get more excited for this.

EDIT: Meh, old news, appartently. Sorry, I was way too excited. Did I mention I'm a huge fan of David Wise's work?

This is already shaping up to be the best "Rare" game since N64 days and we haven't seen a single piece of in-game footage yet. Nintendo might as well publish it. The good news though is that they seem to have funding even without a publisher, so that means we'll be getting the game regardless.

One thing is for sure though, the OST is going to be one for the history books.

I'm glad this is an actual thing because no one does 3D platformers these days other than Nintendo and Sega.

However I'd say temper expectations in case the game is terrible or becomes vaporware like Rustypup.
