PK_Wonder commented on Feature: Have You Played... ZombiU?:

ZombiU is destined to be a cult classic.

It has some really clever gameplay concepts that provide a brief of fresh air to its genre, and is one of the few games that truly made wonderful use of the GamePad. It wasn't a complete failure, but if only it had done a little better, we might have a Wii U sequel that takes care of the handful of flaws this game has. In spite of those flaws, highly recommend it, especially being readily available at $25 or less USD.

I'm referring specifically to those involved in the MLG scenes of those gaming franchises. I know lots of people who prefer older entries of the CoD, SF, Pokemon, etc. franchises, but as far as the ones that appear in dedicated major tournaments with large profits for players, it's always the newest entry (or at least one specific entry).

Like I said. I understand WHY some Smash players don't move on, because unlike those examples, each iteration of Smash has radically different physics and mechanics. But because of that, and because people don't and won't and aren't willing to accept these changes (I'm not saying it's a flaw of the players not to accept them), the community is split. Sponsors and major tournaments aren't going to shovel as much money and support into a franchise that doesn't have a defined, dedicated userbase.

PK_Wonder commented on Feature: The Poor Career Choice of Super Sm...:

Smash is nearly the sole competitive esport franchise where players haven't nearly universally moved on to the newest iteration. Pokemon, Call of Duty, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken, etc.? Nearly everyone jumps ship once the newest entry is released. There isn't toxicity and arguing about what the best game is. Lots of people look back and are nostalgic about the series' roots, but everyone, new and old, moves on, and their scenes are bigger, better, more developed, and more lucrative for it.

I'm not making any argument for or against any particular entry in the series, and I understand that the mechanics are vastly different between them, moreso than all of the above examples. I'm not implying that anyone is wrong for not abandoning the past and radically adapting. I'm simply saying because of that fact, the community is heavily split to the point that it pretty much is separate, plural communities, and as long as that is the case, it has no future on the level of other MLG scenes.

PK_Wonder commented on Poll: Vote For Your Ten Must-Play Games On Nin...:

This list, and by association the 3DS, have no shortage of good and must-buy games. The only one that is blatantly missing is Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward, the even more amazing sequel to cult classic 999. Please add a vote/honorable mention to it.

PK_Wonder commented on Review: Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. (3DS):

I'm actually doing the same thing, replaying FE:A. I'm attempting to do a Classic/Hard zero-death run (I'm taking my time and doing more grinding than I do even in Pokemon... and that's saying something). I'm on Chapter 18, but completing most of the Paralogues first (which are inconsistent in terms of difficulty.)

"every time you write to a 3DS cart, you're shortening the lifespan of the cart's save memory."

What. I've never heard of such a thing. If these are compatible or better quality that frequently used N64 cartridges, I think we'll be safe for a good 15 years more.

PK_Wonder commented on Rumour: Minecraft Is Already In Development Fo...:

After spending hundreds of hours playing PC Minecraft, I will gladly spend countless more on this. Hallelujah! This is my second most wanted Wii U port of a game I already own (after GTA V), although I know Minecraft would sell more, so it's a better business decision.

PK_Wonder commented on Review: Rayman Legends (Wii U):

Interesting method of deciding your purchases to say the least. Regardless of how different it is, hasn't Ubisoft done enough since the fiasco to redeem themselves beyond a '0/10' in your eyes? Look at all of the games that they DID confirm for Wii U since the whole ordeal. Blacklist, Watch_Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV. Three other giant games. You don't see Rockstar or Bethesda or Konami or Square Enix throwing support to the Wii U. Rayman on Wii U is still an enhanced version, with some extra Nintendo perks thrown in. Give them a break. They make excellent games, and get crucified over a few questionable decisions.

PK_Wonder commented on Don't Expect Retro Games to Play in New Animal...:

I don't understand why this is such a big deal to people. Animal Crossing basically had a limited (and novel) Virtual Console simulation before the VC ever existed. Now it does, so don't expect it back. There is so much more than there ever was in the GameCube version to do in Animal Crossing: New Leaf that NES games don't even cross my mind. Besides, the Nintendo fortune cookie items are infinitely better.

PK_Wonder commented on Dying Light Set To Skip Wii U:

I'm genuinely peeved by this news. Another game losing a potential audience because of a developer not willing to take risks and properly market a specific version of a game. How else are you going to build a base on a platform for future games from your team? and ZombiU and most Resident Evil games have had some genuinely successful sales, so survival horror is no underdog on Nintendo. This title looks really interesting - like an open world, Mirror's Edge X ZombiU lovechild. I'm far from instantly sold like I was at last E3 with Watch_Dogs. I'll keep my eye on it. (Unless they change their mind, it'll be PC version for me, as that's the only non-Nintendo system I own.)

PK_Wonder commented on Watch_Dogs Team Aiming For "Nuance" in its Sto...:

Yeah, I can't stand when Nintendo-exclusive people treat third party games like that. (The only consoles I've ever owned are Nintendo, but I also have a good gaming laptop/Steam). Grand Theft Auto V is my most anticipated non-Nintendo-published this year, rather it comes to Wii U or not. If it does come to Wii U, I will pre-order the best edition available instantly. If it does not, I'll wait for the inevitable PC version.

Watch_Dogs looks like a gorgeous and worthwhile experience, with gameplay somewhere between Assassin's Creed and Metal Gear Solid, with a flavored emphasis on technology, and I've already pre-ordered it. It's the freshest new (non-indie retail) IP I've seen in over a year.

PK_Wonder commented on Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2013 - Spr...:

There is a tough three-way tie for first place: The Wind Waker, Pikmin 3, Watch_Dogs. I'll probably get every game on the list except for Game and Wario.

The only confirmed game I would add to this list is Assassin's Creed IV. I may be in the minority when saying III is BY FAR my favorite game in the franchise, but IV looks like it's adding to that excellence even further. My next Wii U purchase will definitely be Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

PK_Wonder commented on Nintendo Direct: Watch the Japanese 3DS Direct...:

In a nutshell, here's all that ND inevitably meant for us non-Japanese-speaking gamers:
-Zelda: Oracle games will be on the eShop sooner rather than later.
-Professor Layton 6 will be coming. Eventually.
-Shin Megami Tensei IV and Monster Hunter 4 both look incredible and will also eventually make their way West. Eventually.
-Almost everything else will not be localized. Which is a shame, because Youkai Watch and Super Robot Wars UX looked interesting.

PK_Wonder commented on Nintendo Direct: Watch the Japanese 3DS Direct...:

This will probably begin with announcements about 3DS updates coming over the course of Spring. My prediction, since this is a Japanese conference, there's going to be details on Monster Hunter 4, something else from Capcom, maybe a new Shin Megami Tensei, something from Konami other than Castlevania (I'm hoping for another MGS port), probably two Square Enix games, Ace Attorney 5 stuff, one of which is a sequel or remake to something big (TWEWY? Bravely Default? a FFVII remake?), and finally, a few eShop reveals. Finally, they'll end by announcing a Wii U third party Direct coming soon.

PK_Wonder commented on Watch Dogs Confirmed For Release On Wii U:

This is definitely a Day 1 purchase for me. The PS4 version may be slightly graphically enhanced (but probably not enough for Wii U owners to complain about since it's coming to PS360 as well), but I think the GamePad has sooo much potential with this gem-in-the-making. I haven't been so hyped about a new IP in a couple of years (except perhaps count ZombiU).

PK_Wonder commented on GameStop Lists Watch Dogs Wii U For Preorder:

I normally don't jump onto new retail IPs so quickly, but something about Watch Dogs just caught my eye from the moment I saw it. I'm probably going to go pre-order this later. (Worst case scenario, I have $5 in store credit and buy it on PC instead). This is almost definitely coming to Wii U though. I can't imagine any future Ubisoft game not.

PK_Wonder commented on Surprise Ubisoft Sale Arrives on Wii U eShop i...:

I already have ZombiU and AC III, so... no money saved for me. but this is a step in the right direction, even if they can't fully apologize to every single person. Some people are just going to remain frustrated, and I still feel that it was a poor business decision. They could have made a LOT of money releasing Rayman Legends now, when Wii U gamers desperately need a new game, instead of later, when there will be many more options (plus Grand Theft Auto V). I will personally fully forgive them though if Watch Dogs, Blacklist, South Park, and Assassin's Creed IV are all on the Wii U.

PK_Wonder commented on 3DS eShop Version Of Gunman Clive Outsells And...:

Quality $1/$2 iPhone/iPad/Android ports are rare on the eShop. They shouldn't be, they have all the potential to be success stories. Where is Angry Birds? Why is Cut the Rope so pricey? (Still worth it... I guess that's why... people will buy it... just not as many).

PK_Wonder commented on Talking Point: Why Wii U's Image Must Grab Att...:

It needs white, black, pink, and indigo, with new colors special editions coming out over the years.

I, for one, don't care if it's hot neon camo that slowly melts your eyeballs out if you stare at it for too long. I'm getting it, day one.

PK_Wonder commented on Skyrim on Wii U a "Definite Possibility" Says ...:

If we get it, that would be a logical moment to release it. Skyrim for Wii U in any form will be a first-day buy for me. I'm holding off on getting it for any other system for a few months in hopes of some sort of announcement for Wii U. This is by far my most anticipated title not currently confirmed for a Nintendo system.
