Hey guys, making a thread here to house your favorite memories with our green tunic-wearing hero, Link and all the wonderful characters of the great Zelda series, now celebrating 25 years in the making.
Yes, February 21, 1986 was the day where Link and Zelda would enter the fray with The Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System. We were all warned that it was dangerous to go alone and of course, we all took that sword and jumped into the heat of battle as we thwarted Ganon's forces to save Zelda, Princess of Hyrule.
My Zelda moment? Probably playing Majora's Mask when I was young. The moon..... just darn creepy.
What about you guys?
BONUS: Love Zelda so much you wish you were Link? Maybe just a bit? Well, read up these great articles over at 1UP.com!
I had played the original and ALttP before, but not much. When Ocarina came out, I rented it at Blockbuster, and that's what began the obsession. That game blew my mind. I can't really explain how amazed I was. That game changed my life.
I would have to say first seeing Ocarina of Time. I had played all of the previous Zelda games, but I wouldn't have called myself a massive fan. But I was amazed wandering around Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Field.
Windwaker was my first really big game. I got it for my eighth birthday from a cousin. After the party, I put it into the cube and started. I had never heard of Zelda before except in passing from that same cousin. The entire atmosphere of the game just entranced me from the second the title screen showed up. I played the game for hours, and that was pretty much how I seriously got into gaming.
First playing through Wind Waker's Dragon Roost Island. That panflute theme is amazing. It perfectly fits the feeling of going out to unknown sees for a swashbuckling adventure.
Have always liked Zelda games, but one of the awesomest memories was playing Phantom Hourglass... not sure why it was that one over the others but it really resonated with me. Especially Linebecks character arc...
My Zelda memory is probably playing The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX on the Gameboy Color. First started playing it and got hooked instantly! After that I got obsessed with the Zelda series and have bought every single Zelda game (except for Four Swords, never found a copy ).
I remember buying Four Swords adventures. I had just spend €40,00 on the game, completely with the GBA to NGC link cable and then went home to play it, when I accidentally dropped the box. That wasn't the worst thing, though. The worst thing was that there was a car right behind me, immediately driving over it.
You bet I was relieved to find there was only a little dent in the packaging and a small crack in the plastic casing of the game. The disc itself, the booklet and the cable were completely undamaged. I was so relieved... and so was the lady behind the steering wheel of the car.
I got my SNES Christmas Eve 1992 or 1993. As my birthday is in september, i had already bought F-Zero from my birthday money. I remember that until xmas i read the f-zero comic hundret times. BUT then i got my snes and discovered that it was the package without SMW, but i got a copy of ALTTP. It was such an awesome experiance. i neglected f-zero almost a month !
Two friends of mine also got their snes consoles that christmas. One with SMW and Street Fighter II, the other one with pilotwings and sim city. What an awesome mix of games we had together !!!
staying up all night in order to power my way through Ocarina of Time. man, those were the days~
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3

The first time I finally understood the series. I was never that into Zelda at all until A Link to the past. I knew of the first two games but only watched others play it. I didn't really get it until that fatefull day when my mom got me the Snes Zelda bundle. I begged and begged her to buy me a Snes. I wanted the one that came with Mario world but they were all out. She brings home the bundle with a Link to the past. At first I was kinda bummed thinking I had a boring game I would never want to play. I hooked up my Snes and said to myself.... Ah what the heck, and decided to give Zelda a try. Within 15 minutes I was glued to the game and from that day on I've been a huge Zelda fan. I haven't missed a single Zelda game since.
I usually have to get them on the first day of release also. I stood in line at the store in the rain for an hour just to get Ocarina of time.

I still don't understand why so many people find that water temple too difficult. I guess they haven't tried the one in Twilight Princess. Now there's an exercise in frustration!
