The Super Nintendo really started my love for gaming. I fondly remember that 90s Xmas when it was first available in Germany. Along with two friends in my neighborhood, I made a plan already during thesummer before Christmas. We all owned gameboys and were used to hang around outside on summer evenings and negotiated wich game each of us should wish for regarding Christmas. In September I took all my pocket money savings and bought f zero. 3 month later, finally, Christmas eve... I got the Snes along with Zelda. One friend got his Snes with Mario World and SF2, and the other friend got the console with pilotwings and Sim City... What a mix of games... AWESOME!

Question: does the vc announcement involve my complete wii vc collection... Including my c64 games as well as n64 games. Or do these updates only work for nes and snes titles?
I can imagine that they will implement downloadable updates to each vc title in existance to enable gamepad support because every single vc game comes with its own emulator... Then we propably will have to pay for that update. Nintendo can't rip us off making buy games again at full price. Neither can Nintendo start a new wii u vc excluding their already released classics.
I'll wait one or two years until my Wii retires. Then i assume there will either be a couple of new eshop vc games or a way to re download my library with gamepad support. I fear that soft modding will also offer a solution...
I am 100% sure that the vc catalogue will be fully available for future consoles - at least vc downloads will have to be enabled to be transferred once, like they plan with the dsiware onto the 3ds - so i can't see any reason, why no more games are coming out now. If you can download vc titles to either wii or "wii 2", then where is the (selling-)point...
just think about it: the wii lured due to its blue ocean strategy lots of people into first-gaming-experiences. The question is how many of those first time-video-gamers will experience gaming as something deep and rewarding apart from the casual stuff, so they stick with it. If these are not so many after all then ninty's future sales of whatever will come in the next generation will be lower Good games for a nintendo console have to be easy to get into and hard to master with an overall production quality, bridges for casual gamer to become core gamer (how i hate these terms!). The race is open.
I remember playing the 150cc cups in 2 player mode when i was alone, just to eliminate at least one cpu opponent straight away. Naive thinking one can say... I'll get it someday for sure on vc!
Honestly, this game is perfect for riddle/puzzle loving adults. If one can make friends with the cartoon style, it is the pefect choice. I had much fun with this one!
Wonderful game for anyone who has the patience to "learn" how to get through each level by heart. I own this title since fall 07 now and i am still returning to it regulary. One of the 3 TOP Mega Drive/Genesis games IMO.
i got into this one after having played super paper mario. This one is way superior. on xmas i'll reward myself with the gamecube version. The best thing about those paper mario games is that kids (if you have any) just love watching someone play. Our 4 year old has so much excitment for the story. Great game for snes-lapsed-gamer generation
Outlander - great SNES title. Not exactly a racing game, but would love to see it on VC! I agree that Top Gear deserves a place on the list as well as Rock n' Roll Racing!
it has been said so often already, a small system update and the usb ports or the sd slot could be ready to use for storage + direct play. So what is the reason for not going for that - no free staff to conduct the programming necessary, because other projects earn them more money?? The bride side is, re-downloading software saves a lot of plastic, tri-wing screws and other resources that would be used for a hard drive. So being casual from NoE's point of view is being ecologically correct
I agree with Bass X0 - although there is a really cool collection available already on vc, i would be sooo happy if there would be more cool old multiplayer games ('cause it just rocks so much playing with friends those old ones) which obviously never will see the daylight on the vc. NBA JAM T.E. or Rock n' Roll Racing, Royal Rumble (all SNES), just to mention three...
By the way, if ever such good old multiplayable games come out despite all facts - it would also be great to have some sort of general online feature along with the vc via wifi. Imagine Super Street Fighter online on your Wii.WOOOHOOO!!
I can only explain this list by admitting that the huge user base consists 90% of casual gaming folks that just send in the stars they got from (lets say..) their xmas wii+games to change them into wii points and then only getting one game. And what are they buying - just what they know. I reckon those customers would never buy wii points seperately to get a retro title. This way i am afraid that the vc will turn into a lame duck as soon as wiiware is out everywhere.
I agree with manicfatty (# 88) - it is rather the technical side than the content of the vc giving the retro fans a reason to complain / cry about. Wouldn't a wii update make a lot of things easier there... BUT: Anyone who thinks that more games should be released is barking up the wrong tree, because the marketing reasons influence the distribution after all. And i'll bet that retro fanboys are a clear minority among all wii users. I would welcome technical changes, like starting games directly from my sd-card or making the interface Mac-alike. Then i would need a miracle to find the money/time to really enjoy playing everything i would like from what is available already.
I'd say as long as everything can be re-downloaded all over again (and forever... also in 30 years from now) it would be o.k. to increase the download speed. If there are ways of course. Gaming itself is a touch-and-go issue for nintendo. Obviously.
I read a review on amazon saying that someone had a broken wii console which has been send in to nintendo. Ultimately, this person got a brandnew console directly from nintendo and voila: all his vc games + save stats were on it
Concerning the article, it should be mentioned that the european prices for vc games are a lot higher because the € is worth more than the $. This way vc games are propably still cheaper thatn the originals - but the difference surely is not as significant. I calculated that all available games on the vc cost european Gamers nearly $ 2000 instead of $ 1325. Apart from this, the vc's disadvantages are minor to the benefits i think.
