So I've never been into the Smash Bros. series (since the original), but I thought I'd try out the Wii U version seeing as how it got such great reviews. I still really don't get it, it looks nice but I don't get much fun out of playing it and wonder what everyone else sees that I don't. I'd rather have a go on Street Fighter 4.

Anyone else have any games where they feel they are missing the part of the brain (that everyone else has) that lets you enjoy it?

Rimmer: "Look, I think we've all got something to bring to this conversation, but I think that from now on the thing you should bring is silence."

Homer: "Oh people can come up with statistics to prove anything Kent. Forfty percent of all people know that."

Maybe God of War would be my biggest one. I have trouble seeing what any fully matured adult would find of value in those games. The puzzles are weak and the combat is repetitive and mostly automatic Press A For Awesome stuff. The only thing I can see appealing to some would be Kratos being laughably dark and edgy to appeal to teenage boys, but teenage boys aren't the main audience for the games, so I have no idea.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

That same could be said about the Japanese cartoons you watch.

Agreed. That and the brutal blood and guys violence and female nudity. Same things that attract teenage boys to GTA, Gears of War, etc.

but teenage boys aren't the main audience for the games

Wait what?

I can't get into any JRPG games or Smash Bros. As the other guy above said, I want to like that series, especially the Wii U version, as the creativity and content of the game is outstanding, but I just don't 'get' it at all. I want to enjoy being Link and shooting Kirby with a laser pistol but it just does absolutely nothing for me.

The Souls series. Started off with Dark Souls for my first. I wanted to see what everyone was talking about. Seeing reviews and great videos and such. It looks great and you can feel epic, yeah I was given that. I wanted to be a Rogue Stealth/ Long range type of player. But the game doesn't give that to me really. Bows and Crossbows don't do enough damage and I accidentally killed a merchant to get arrows and bolts ammo. Sadly, tho I thought the game was solid, I didn't like it. The game forced me to play how the game wanted to be played and not how I wanted to. (I don't mean suddenly fly, but I want to do the morale things in an RPG) Even looking up 'how to be good at the game' on the internet. I hear no matter what you put your stats on, you still benefit from them. It's rather pointless. The idea of what stat to increase should be thought about but I just add Strength upon Strength. I just don't see what other do.

I dunno, I don't think <17 year olds are really the ones buying the games by the millions. I'm sure a lot of them are, but going by what limited scope I can with anecdotal evidence, internet posters, convention cosplayers, etc, it seems like the majority of the fanbase is in their 20s. Of course the market as a whole may not reflect that though.

Sonic Adventure 2.

For a game where only 10% of the game is worth playing, it sure gets A LOOOOOOT of praise. Worst Sonic game I've played, and probably the most overrated game of all time, IMO.

@RedDevilAde Have you played Smash with friends/family? It's a lot more fun if you don't just play by yourself.

Xenoblade Chronicles. Sure, it has excellent music, but I can't get into the game. And it doesn't look like XCX will change that. shrug

God first.

Street fighter 4 is ok i guess..but if you ask me, Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was much better.

Destiny! I tried the demo on 360 and I was so bored by it, feels like nothing more than a dull Halo clone. I'd gladly take any Halo game over it and that series has had some pretty big disappointments (see Halo 2 Anniversary not having "Blow Me Away" in the soundtrack for example).

For me it is games that were influential back in the day but I never played them at the time, but years later.

Shadow of the Colossus and Super Mario Sunshine are two examples.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

There aren't that many for me, oddly enough. There are well-liked games I can't stand, but I mostly "get" why people like it, I just don't see it the same way they do. Only one headscratcher I can think of is...actually, I might have to get back to you on this...

Final Fantasy X and other newer Final Fantasy games like it. I like the old school Final Fantasy games, and I really like Dragon Quest, but I thought X was terrible. I felt like it was really just a movie where you got to fight some enemies once in a while. I don't get why people find that fun. I don't know how Final Fantasy fans rate that game these days but I remember at the time so many people praising it. I'd rather play one of the SNES Final Fantasy games.

Assassin's Creed. I only played the first one and then lost interest with the series. Sure, the graphics were great but the game itself was terribly repetitive and boring. I gave it away to a relative. I can't believe so many people are fans of that series.

I agree with this whole heartedly. "This is really just a movie I'm moving along more than a video game" was what I kept thinking. The problem with the movie was that almost every single character stunk. Tidus constantly whined, to the point he was unlikable. Wakka was just about the worst character ever in an RPG, and I can barely remember the rest, but I know I hated them, too.

Resident Evil 2 - My first experience with it was when my brother called me in, saying the game was playing weird. Offering my help, I grabbed the controller, pushed forward, and ran backwards into a wall of fire. The tank controls in these '90s survival horror games are awful. I know it's supposed to bring tension, but I wasn't feeling that; I was feeling frustrated. The controls are just bad. Awful. Makes the game near-unplayable.

1080 Snowboarding - This game got a rather high rating for something that's just a bare-bones, lame snowboarding game. You can fall and die ("wipeout") before finishing the race. I don't see the appeal. I guess it's slightly the same with Wave Race: Blue Storm.

Sonic. It doesn't seem fun at all.

As a 90% Nintendo guy I'll ignore Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and the most of the other modern Xbox/PS mainstays where you kill people, but I would say Professor Layton. I enjoyed the first, but I found the sequels rehashed a lot of the puzzles in new clothes, and got very frustrated by how some of the explanations of what they wanted you to do weren't very clear. Plus the plot, dialogue, and constant trudging back and forth to each side of the game map just dragged out the suffering.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
