@MrGawain "but there are little touches that still excite me in what can be done, and Nintendo are king of this."
Um.... I don't think I know the correct response to this...
Nintendo has more new IP on the WiiU and 3DS than they did on the Wii and DS:
Splatoon, Captain Toad, teh submarine game, the baseball-loving-dog game (both I have, but don't remember their titles), STEAM, NES Remix, etc., plus support for many third party games (like Bayonetta) that really sets it apart.
For the wii: the Wii games (Resort, Sports, Party, Music, Play), the Rhythm games, the Excite racing game.
Like all consoles manufacturers, Big N is just letting the indies take the risk with new IP. Nothing wrong there.

The Excite series was on the NES with Excitebike.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

C'mon dude. Doesn't the mainstream media distract people enough with meaningless stories like this? Do we really need user-generated media to be doing the same?
You mean clean and disinfected, happy to eat your meals off/from? Sure. A lot of other companies are covered in grease and food and left sitting in the sink for days on end. Sure you could eat from them, but you're going to get sick
It says something about the credibility of this thread that the OP brought up Splatoon and immediately discounted it because "it started as Mario". Whatever Nintendo does someone is going to bend the rules so what they did wasn't innovative. That's just how it works. People have an opinion on which companies are innovative and which ones aren't and they bend the rules to suit.
Look at Apple for example, the "most innovative company in the world". However if innovation means pure invention then they shouldn't be given that high praise. There were mp3 players around before the iPod, there were PDA Phones before the iPhone, there were online stores before iTunes, there were tablets before the iPad. Hell their newest 'inventions' were the Smart Watch and a phone with a larger screen. Really? However I would still argue that Apple are innovative, just not with tech. They're an innovative design and marketing company that happens to sell tech.
Now in some ways Nintendo is a lot like Apple but in other ways they go about it the other way around. Nintendo has IP that will sell well as long as they keep it alive. To do that they need to come up with some sort of hook and more often than not that hook is pretty innovative. When you think of some of the most innovative games of the last ten years or so you'd probably list Portal. Would you ignore that whole idea entirely if, for example, Nintendo had done it and included it in Metroid Prime? I think peoplecreating threads like this would, people do it all the time as it is.
People are more than happy to ignore the spherical platforming of Galaxy, the four player platforming of New SMB Wii, the motion controlled gameplay in Skyward Sword, the asymetrical minigames in Nintendo Land, the anti-grav racing in a Kart racer in Mario Kart 8, the touch screen minigames in New SMB, the stylus control in Kirby Canvas Curse and Zelda Phantom Hourglass.
And sure some games offer small incremental improvements. I don't expect some huge innovative leap from Smash Bros and I don't really want it either. I just want a solid version of Smash with one that's HD and another that's portable. New characters? That's a nice bonus. More than that? I don't care, just give it to me already. I'm not going to sit down with a pad and paper and calculate what level of "innovativeness" is in the next Smash, why would I care?
As much as I love Nintendo, but.........................................................................................sadly they are washed up. I can go on for hours explaining but I rather not.

Ugh I know right, its sad that some people here are to blind to see that Nintendo is run down and washed out like a worn out clothes. Yeah I said it, there run down. I'm a hardcore fan of Nintendo but its the truth, someone needs to say it....So therefore these threads are not a waste of time.
