You can take Galaxy out of the equation and it would make no difference. NSMB and 3D still only offer incremental improvements either way.

Nintendo always push itself forward towards innovation, if you blame them then you should blame 95% of last 10 ywars gaming industry.....

But honestly, in the last 2 years, especially on WiiU, it must be said that they are playing safe, too much safe.... we got good sequels and not so much more.... good that the last e3 displayed something new...

That's somewhat true, but in other cases not. I don't think you can say they've completely played it safe. Some of their games, I am not interested in, and those are usually the ones that are sequels to games that were just ok (Like, I can't even understand Yarn Yoshi but whatever). Some games are completely new types of games, like Splatoon.

They didn't play it safe with 3D World. Everyone, including me, wanted Galaxy 3, or Mario Universe, whatever you want to call it. But, I don't think they were ready for that game in HD. Realizing your limitations, isn't exactly the same as playing it safe. It's why I think they are working on a remaster of Galaxy 1 & 2, and then will announce the third game at the end of the Wii U's life cycle.

But, Fire Emblem X SMT isn't playing it safe. Honestly, that's taking a tough crowd and selling them a crossover game. I honestly was kinda miffed that it wasn't just a straight up FE game.

Devil's Third, and Bayonetta 2 aren't playing it safe. In fact, all of these collaborations with other developers are quite unique. Either publishing their games, and providing assistance, or having them work on their own IP's (Hyrule Warriors), is something I thought Nintendo would never do. So, they are branching out, and trying new things. That's not the definition of playing it safe.

And Zelda being open world is a huge deal. It's a ridiculous investment in time, and money, to create an open world game like Skyrim. That takes a lot of guts, and I'm glad they are doing it. I'm not a huge Zelda fan, but I'm hyped for an open world game from Nintendo.

Splatoon wasn't announced until E3, so that doesn't fall within the time period he's talking about. SMTxFE we know absolutely nothing about, so it's too soon to count that. And 3D World not safe? You must be dreaming, that game is very safe. It's another sequel and it repeats the same things that every other Mario game does.

I completely agree with him, Nintendo was playing it very safe until E3 this year, Splatoon is pretty much the first and only game so far that shows actually risk and innovation.

Seeing as many of their latest games in their respective franchises happen to be my favorite in the series, I have to say no. Though I have yet to play 3D World I feel that 3D Land was one of the best Mario games I have played, and I have played all of them except for New Super Mario Bros U, New Super Mario Bros 2, and 3D World. From what I hear A Link between Worlds seems to be pretty much universally acclaimed, with many considering it better than A Link to the Past, so yeah they certainly don't seem washed up to me and I have been having as much fun playing their games as ever, and I have been playing them for 20 years.

I love Nintendo and love what they are doing. They have tons of money in the bank and will go on infinitely, they are far from washed up.

I'd say that Nintendo has become very interested in appealing to NES and SNES fans right now. They are releasing homages and sequels like there's no tomorrow.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
