I actually hope it's not called Super Mario 3DS made in the style of the side scrollers, but in 3D. That'd tell me Nintendo is "combining" the classic formula with the Super Mario 64 formula. Meaning not to hold my breath for another New Super Mario game anytime soon.

As more of a retro game player, the emphasis on 3D with this system (and you can't have more emphasis than having "3D" in the system name) concerns me. Nintendo was so emphatic about making 3D platformers on Nintendo 64 that we hardly saw any side scrollers the entirety of the N64's run. I think Yoshi's Story was the only first party classic 2D platformer on N64.

I'm all for flaunting the new technology and showing the competition what the 3DS can do. However, that doesn't mean 3D is ALL I want from the system. I simply hope Nintendo doesn't have the one-track mind with 3DS that they did with the N64 (and GameCube).

Actually Super Mario Bros. 3 DS has already been created. A fan modded New Super Mario Bros. to make all the levels like SMB3. There's also some other stuff thrown in too. The name is not confirmed. The logo just says "Super Mario," not "Super Mario 3DS," and immediately after revealing it Iwata said that the name was tentative.

I believe that Nintendo stated this is a new game, so it's probably not a remake

Tanooki Mario is classic. Frog Mario, however, is hilarious, and offers a fun challenge when playing out of water. I like trying to beat airship levels in the frog suit. It's my goal to someday beat the last level in it.

Yeah i would love to see shy guys and wart in a 3d Mario game. I just really want to see ALL classic elements of the smb series in this game. Were in luck with the tanooki suit but, i really want to see some reference to smb 2.
My idea is that you have an unlockable world based on smb 2, after you beat the game and Mario saves the princess and goes to sleep, wakes up in a sub-con like world full of shy guys, vegetables and of course wart. You have to find a turnip/vegetable hidden in every level of the game to unlock the world, if you don't find every single one, Mario falls asleep and the credits roll in. I'm to hyped right now lol.

There were Fly Guys in Super Mario 64. And they were glorious, as any form of Shy Guy cannot help but be.

It is interesting how Shy Guy has not really appeared in the Mario platformers- even 3D since Mario 64 (I think it shot fireballs at Mario- that was really annoying as it comes out of no where sometimes).

Seems like that character loves livin' at Yoshi's Island.
