Not sure if there is already a topic for this, but I searched and nothing, so here we are.
Personally, I have no idea how Mario Kart could work better in 3D.
But, I can see the kart being in full 3D popping out of the screen, and then when you drift around a corner, the kart slips into the screen. And with the turbo boost, you zoom staright into the screen into the distance before suddenly slowing down and slipping back out of the screen.
So... how do you think MK3DS will take advantage of the 3D aspect?
The 3DS will allow blue shells to be even more annoying.

It'll be good to be able to judge distances a bit better. I've pratfallen off the mushroomy level on Mario Kart Wii, where you have to bounce on all the giant mushrooms, just because I've misjudged the distance.
You'll be able to better tell if a green shell will hit you when rebounding off a wall. I've been hit many a time by green shells I swore should have missed me.
I hope they bring back mercy invincibility.

Mario Kart could inherently benefit from the ability to judge distance further into the level and closer to you. I think there isn't much more you could say about it. Really, that's the only benefit of 3D displays.
Well, it would look really freakin' cool. Lessee... as V8 Ninja said, blue shells would cause a spectacularly annoying explosion. And Odnetnin said that there thing about ink. That would be awesome. I wonder where the ink would stop though? Maybe if the 3DS is capable of such a feat, about a foot, 'cause that's the space recommended between your head and the system. I'm guessing the tracks couldn't be too extravagant, otherwise you would have to stop at intervals like you're playing a Virtual Boy.
Hmm interesting... I just can't see how a racing game can incorporate 3D and make it work... I can see games like Zelda and Metroid using it rather well... but Mario Kart? o_O
It'll work nicely with power ups etc., but how would it use the 3D effectively without the items? ._.
@xDemon720x Because when you look at the screen, you will perceive actual depth rather than looking at a flat image. That's how all 3D games, whether they are platformers, action games or racers, will benefit effectively from 3D displays.
In other words, you will actually be able to tell how far you are from your racing opponents, and how far you are from the next turn, or the finish line. The gameplay itself will benefit inherently.
Anything else which specifically utilises 3D displays will be clever visual gimmicks or tricks.
Imagine how great it would look with objects flying towards you in 3D! And the sense of speed would be incredible. Look, until you experience 3D racing for yourself, you won't be able to understand just how awesome it is. Also, like others said it will help you judge distances better.
I have always liked The Boo item. But I would like to see a Yoshi Egg or a Kong Barrol in used.
