If we knew how small we were are problems wouldn't seem so BIG!
...and the system voices sound ridiculous, ha. Well, I have the audio set to Japanese with subtitles, because the English voices are absolutely horrible, but the downside is that the original voices don't do so well with the system prompts (which are spoken in English on all versions of the game). They sound like they're straining with all their might to pronounce "winner" and "you lose", plagued by the stereotypical 'L vs R' problems.

I'd like to play as Shiden but the codes won't work. I've got al the characters and I've put the cursor over random and then done the right button combinations so I don't see what I'm doing wrong. I tried holding down the buttons for the combination at the same time as well as pressing each button separately so I don't see what I'm doing wrong.

You still have to press A (while holding the code buttons) to select him just like you do to select any character. The same thing goes for Kasumi's, Kasumi Alpha's, and Leifang's alternate hairstyles and La Marisposa without her mask.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I haven't tried this myself yet, but Genra has some very cheap, long distance, lightning and wind attacks that you could spam. I'd then recommend Alpha-152 as your AI partner. Also keep in mind that you need to block their ultra attacks. You'll still take some damage but nowhere near the ungodly amount you take if you get hit without blocking.

They're much easier if you use a heavy attack to knock them away and let your partner regenerate. I always use Tengu because he always seems to be able to take heavier damage than others. I still haven't beaten them though; I've had 4 times with Raidou dead and Shiden down to his last 15% of health but still having trouble.
Well, I have heard worse, but... to me they just don't fit the characters at all. The Japanese ones seem better suited.
What, even with the American characters?
I agree with you overall though. I generally prefer the Japanese voice track for Japanese games. Not so much because the characters suit it, but the game is built around a Japanese voice set.
I've played the Japanese version of Call of Duty, and it works the other way around too.
Even if the voices don't fit the characters and/or game quite as well, I usually prefer being able to understand what characters are saying. I want to watch the action without having to divide my attention to rely on the subtitles to know what's happening.
Plus, I think Zack's English voice is an awesome choice.

Thanks, I'll try that out later.

I found that SFIV got old fast, but DoA feels much more packed with content and modes, keeps me coming back by constantly unlocking new challenges, costumes, etc. I'm actually planning to return SFIV this week and keep only DoA as my 3DS fighting game of choice. This outcome surprised me, by the way, as I historically have preferred SF over other fighters.
However, I'm not someone who particularly enjoys the online mode in either game. I don't want chatting etc; that would actually be much worse in my view, and I do like the fact that playing a quick match against a random opponent is very fast in DoA. The problem for me is that online gaming simply isn't much fun for me, never has been, and apparently never will be, aside from an occasional Mario Kart Wii race. I just don't get the appeal; there are also too many cheap and annoying opponents online, and even a moment of lag makes the experience much worse, in my view, than fighting a CPU.
I too am not a fan of Online gaming, i think the entire whole thing is massively overrated....Nothing beats being with a bunch of buds in the same room, chearing, crying and having a blast duking each other out in SSB Brawl for ex. I hardly got any fun out of SSFIV's online mode.....Lets forget about many of those spammers who crouch in the corner firing Sonic Booms and air kicking you right when you try to hop over towards them. The problem is the lag, even if it's tiny it's still a big problem as it hampers the gameplay and timing.
Plus, i don't know who this random guy I'm playing is, even if I did know who he was, what would I care? I'm still by myself at my place, while nobodies around me laughing or having a good time. It feels rather empty and lifeless. And 'chatting' would make it even worse, i agree.
That's always been my experience with online gaming. It's kind of depressing really...
First of all, SSF4:3D doesn't lag online for most people.
Second, you have a point only if you can get a friend or group of friends over often enough. For those like me where it's a rare occurence to enjoy local video game multiplayer (and I don't know anyone else who has a 3DS, yet), online multiplayer is much better than just facing the CPU with its programmed choices and limited intelligence, and that's true for much more than just fighting games.
