I found that SFIV got old fast, but DoA feels much more packed with content and modes, keeps me coming back by constantly unlocking new challenges, costumes, etc. I'm actually planning to return SFIV this week and keep only DoA as my 3DS fighting game of choice. This outcome surprised me, by the way, as I historically have preferred SF over other fighters.
However, I'm not someone who particularly enjoys the online mode in either game. I don't want chatting etc; that would actually be much worse in my view, and I do like the fact that playing a quick match against a random opponent is very fast in DoA. The problem for me is that online gaming simply isn't much fun for me, never has been, and apparently never will be, aside from an occasional Mario Kart Wii race. I just don't get the appeal; there are also too many cheap and annoying opponents online, and even a moment of lag makes the experience much worse, in my view, than fighting a CPU.
I too am not a fan of Online gaming, i think the entire whole thing is massively overrated....Nothing beats being with a bunch of buds in the same room, chearing, crying and having a blast duking each other out in SSB Brawl for ex. I hardly got any fun out of SSFIV's online mode.....Lets forget about many of those spammers who crouch in the corner firing Sonic Booms and air kicking you right when you try to hop over towards them. The problem is the lag, even if it's tiny it's still a big problem as it hampers the gameplay and timing.
Plus, i don't know who this random guy I'm playing is, even if I did know who he was, what would I care? I'm still by myself at my place, while nobodies around me laughing or having a good time. It feels rather empty and lifeless. And 'chatting' would make it even worse, i agree.
That's always been my experience with online gaming. It's kind of depressing really...
First of all, SSF4:3D doesn't lag online for most people.
Second, you have a point only if you can get a friend or group of friends over often enough. For those like me where it's a rare occurence to enjoy local video game multiplayer (and I don't know anyone else who has a 3DS, yet), online multiplayer is much better than just facing the CPU with its programmed choices and limited intelligence, and that's true for much more than just fighting games.
