I didn't see a thread for this, so I'm sorry if it already exists.
I bought it on launch day today at the third store I tried. So far, I'm having a great time with it. The did a really nice job of putting the story together in Chronicle Mode, which I have now completed. The gameplay is actually pretty different from Street Fighter. Street Fighter is a 2D fighter with loads of flashy special moves, projectiles, and aerial attacks. This is a 3D fighter that doesn't really have special moves but instead focuses on fluid punch and kick combos, throws, and counterattacks (called holds), plus there are some lovely multi-tiered arenas. Meanwhile, the graphics are just amazing. It's worth bumping down the framerate to 30 FPS (I've never been able to tell the difference between 30 and 60 FPS, anyway) to see it in 3D. The movelist on the bottom screen is pretty nice to train with, but it's pretty pointless once the real fights start.
Like I said, I've beaten Chronicle Mode, but I'm still missing some characters. Does anybody know how to unlock them?
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

If it has an arcade mode have you beaten that? It might unlock you some characters. Thanks for your thoughts on the game. Sounds nice and fun. I've been tempted to buy this game for a while now, but I still think I'll hold off till I bought other games I want more first.
Yeah, I can't recommend this game enough. It's insanely fun and I have been enjoying it more than SSFIV. While the styles aren't as varied or complex as Street Fighter, this game's fighting is insanely fast and fluid in comparison. The various modes and interactive levels are a plus. Oh,.........and there is all the eye candy. =]
Thanks for the impressions. Would you say it will take a long time to unlock everything? Sounds like it warrants a purchase, but I really prefer it when games offer you an incentive to keep playing via extra junk ala Soul Calibur II. I didn't like that everything was unlocked from the get-go in SF, but it made sense for what it is.
@Scypher - There are a ton of unlockables in this game. In fact you have to unlock almost all the characters. There are also a lot of costumes to unlock, plus a thousand figurines. So plenty to keep you busy.
I unlocked Kasumi [alpha] by playing through a round of Arcade Mode. I don't know if you can do it with anybody or if it has to be Kasumi.

This game is good, and much easier to play on the 3DS than SSF4. However, it feels rushed in some apsects. For instance, all rounds are one match and you can't change it; what happened to user settings/options? I haven't tried online yet, but based on many other perspectives, it's very generic and laggy. The story Chronicles mode mixes full motion video with still pictures to tell the story, which gives the player a half-baked experience. Also, the multi-tiered stages don't look as good as they can/should. Nevertheless, I like this game and will keep it in my 3DS rotation for a long time.
