I'm still kinda confused about how this is supposed to work. It's hard to tell looking at the photos but it's not clear how it draws power or transmits it data to the 3DS. It covers the cartridge slot and the IR port so maybe it works by using one of them.
I know there's pics now but I'm still skeptical........

I hope that peripheral is just for this game, because I will never buy it. It's ugly, not portable, oh and ugly. As if the 3DS wasn't bulky enough. Nintendo is dumb for not having that 2nd circle pad in the first place.
Looking closer the only way I can see it working is if it has it's own power supply and it uses the IR port to communicate. It doesn't look like there is any way they could connect it into the cartridge slot with the way it looks in the photos.
edit: unless it has some contacts behind the cartridge slot and the game(s) that use it have corresponding contacts
It seems they made it specifically for Monster Hunter but all I'm going to say is that someone at Nintendo(possibly Miyamoto, possibly Iwata) has gone absolutely insane.

Really, what else is there to say at that ugly, bloated monstrosity?

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
It simply doesn't add up because there don't appear to be any connections or ports anywhere you'd expect them to be. Nothing over the power socket, no contacts plugs or connections over the cartridge slot, no IR as far as I can see, not even anything over the SD Card slot.
Either the photos are of a prototype, it has a battery and works via some sort of wireless magics or it's total BS.
I sure hope it's just for this one game (Monster Hunter). It makes the 3DS less portable imho. If it turns out that they will make this work for many games and they update the 3DS with a second circle pad it's just........mumbles

What I hope is that you only need this for Monster Hunter (or at least very few others), but it can be an optional control scheme for most other games but not compulsary. Various options are always good, then you can choose how to play for yourself.
Y'know, I was wondering why we just don't have a laynerd to use the touch screen as a 2nd analogue. I mean, that's what was brilliant about the original DS's leynard for me. Just my thought.
What would be bad would be if they release a new 3DS with the second pad placed in a non-obtrusive, comely manner, and this giant dongle is what current 3DS owners have to use to get the second pad.

Yeah I mean with motion sensing and the touchscreen there are 2 other options as far as camera control. The 2nd thumb stick should still be there grumble. If the 3DS Lite doesn't have it added on though....
