Re: Feature: Will These 10 Classic JRPGs Ever Come To Switch?

silverthornne

@darkswabber That way to name them is confusing. There is no reason why Persona 3 is "technically" Persona 4. The Persona series doesn't work like that. Also, the US got the second Persona 2, not the first.

The way it works is that the first game released as Persona 2 is "Persona 2: Innocent Sin." That one was not released in the US until the PSP remake. There were controversies surrounding the crazy plot, which included Hitler.

The second Persona 2 is "Persona 2: Eternal Punishment." That's the one that got released on PlayStation in the US. Both games together make up the full P2 story. Innocent Sin eventually got a Western release as one of the last PSP games. Not sure if that version made it to Europe.

Re: Cotton Guardian Force Saturn Tribute Is Getting An Update To "Improve Input Delay"

@NicolausCamp SLG means it may as well have no physical release. I ordered their Cotton Reboot! over a year ago and it's still not shipping. Finally gave up, requested a refund, and got the Inin Games physical release, which hadn't even been announced and just landed suddenly. That one arrived overnight!

I have another order with them for Clockwork Aquario, also over a year old. Hasn't shipped yet. Limited Run Games also takes a while, but they offer updates and are very transparent. SLG is extremely unreliable, and I'd never recommend them to anyone.

Re: Video: The Best RPG Ever Made Still Isn't On Switch

I will never understand this illogical love over Chrono Trigger in gaming communities. Yes, it has great gameplay and enjoyable characters, but it also has huge plot holes (there's an entire plot line around Schala just completely forgotten about!), and the lauded multiple endings aren't quite really that special because it's not that you can alter the game that much with your choices.

It's more that once you finish it for the first time, you can choose to finish it at any point on another playthrough. What happens if you beat the baddie before visiting the past for the first time? Right after getting Frog? Before beating Magus? I mean, I had fun with it back in the day, but it's hardly the most amazing SNES RPG.

Re: Random: An Eager 3DS StreetPass Fan Spent A Day In New York, Got Zero Hits

TBH, one of the biggest surprises I got when I moved to FL from Puerto Rico, was that there were no Streetpass users! I moved in July 2018. I used to get multiple Streetpass hits every day when I lived in PR. No more hits after moving. Seems it wasn't that big, at least in FL.

I also took my 3DS to a job interview in DC back in 2017. No Streetpass hits either.

Re: Hardware Review: PowerA Fusion Pro - A Customisable Pro Controller Rival With A Steep Price

@chickenguy

No. It ain't that easy; very few CODECs support low latency audio and it's very likely that Nintendo just doesn't provide Bluetooth with enough oomph to connect both a controller and audio with the minimal latency required.

Note that Sony created the LDAC CODEC, which while not as good as aptX Low Latency, it is still pretty decent, making it acceptable for gaming. Nintendo does not license LDAC nor aptX, so don't expect BT audio support from them until they start doing so.

Re: Robotech: The Macross Saga HD Edition Just Stealth-Dropped On The Nintendo Switch eShop

silverthornne

@RR529 They made more changes to Southern Cross and Mospeada to fit Macross than the other way around. A few bits of censorship, but nothing major besides the whole Protoculture deal. In Macross, the Protoculture is the precursor race that created the Zentraedi, humans, and other species introduced in further series. It can also be used to refer to the society and culture that the Zentraedi were not allowed to have.
In Robotech, the Protoculture can be used as a magical cop-out that explains everything from culture to fuel and technology. It's really the point in which Robotech falters. Protoculture is everything and thus, incomprehensible.

Re: Review: Capcom Arcade Stadium - A Rich Tour Through The Coin-Op History Of A True Legend

I am probably part of the problem since I bought the 39.99 pack, but the selection is a bit disappointing in that it includes so many games that are available in other current collections.

I understand that we need Final Fight in a Capcom collection, I won't argue that, but do we really need Captain Commando again? Do we need so many versions of Street Fighter II? I understand its importance, but this should have only included Hyper Street Fighter II instead of multiple entries. With those games out of the way, they could have added Three Wonders, Darkstalkers, and Darkstalkers 3 / Vampire Savior 2 (however we'd call the final version in English with all the characters). They should have also added a premium "licensed brawlers pack," separate from the bundles with Aliens vs Predator, D&D Shadow Over Mystara, and The Punisher. Those can be a little more expensive because of the license negotiations, but we really need official modern versions of those.

Re: Review: Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection - A Strong Lineup Of Brilliant Fighters

silverthornne

@TG16_IS_BAE It's still a collection of awesome video game history with a museum mode that elevates it beyond just the games. If online is that important to you, yeah, stay away. But if you can appreciate the collection for what it is, the score seems fine even if I find this collection lacking in the game content. Why do a NeoGeo Collection only when the PSP and PS2 got a collection that included VI? At this point, any new collection should have added the NeoGeo64 titles or the NeoGeoCD RPG as well at the very least.

Re: Review: Catherine: Full Body - The Ultimate Version Of A Surreal Cult Classic

silverthornne

@Alucard83 I played the heck out of the original on PS3 and my wife really enjoyed watching because of the storyline.

The block puzzles are devilishly simple at first and the game does an amazing job increasing the difficulty. It's just damn good arcade puzzle fun with a wonderful story to keep things interesting. I also spent too much time playing the Super Rapunzel minigame to brush up my skills.

Anyway, if you don't care for the puzzle gameplay then yeah, I can see why it wouldn't work for you. I skipped out on the PS4 Full Body, but am really tempted to grab it on Switch. Having it on the go seems like an ideal way to enjoy it.

Re: Review: Langrisser I & II - Fire Emblem’s Erstwhile Rival Gets A Second Shot At Glory

silverthornne

I loved Warsong on the Genesis and I was really excited about this version. The graphics definitely put me off, and I really wish it could be set to the old sprites. I am also not a fan of the HP change. In the original game, every unit had a 10 max HP and you could really see terrain bonuses kick in because of that. Not sure that I prefer the new system where HP can differ.

However, the biggest surprise is that even with these niggles, the game is so darn addictive. The sprites are ugly (not nearly as bad as the huge headed polygons in Langrisser Tensai for 3DS though) and the gameplay changes threw me off, but the overall fun of Langrisser is still there and it's terribly addictive!

Re: Review: SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays - Brilliant Strategy RPG Action Bursting With Content

silverthornne

@Priceless_Spork It's an awesome game! I do prefer SRW T, but V is still really good with what I've played so far. My only disappointment in the SRW series is that the first I played were the OG releases on GBA and I prefer the top-down view of those over the modern SRW isometric presentation for the map. I was also expecting to see more of the OG Mecha and characters as part of the cast, but I guess it makes sense that each title has its own cast and they don't want the old ones taking attention away from them.

Re: Review: SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays - Brilliant Strategy RPG Action Bursting With Content

silverthornne

@Shiryu Ah, that would explain my problems then. I am constantly doing the sleep-resume thing. That's actually why I love the Switch so much: I can play quality games in handheld mode and sleep-resume as needed (old dad here). Guess I'll just have to wait on a patch that solves it as I have never been a fan of quick saving in this kind of game.

Back to SRW V while I wait for that then!

Re: Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights And More D&D Classics Coming To Switch

silverthornne

@VoodooTrumpet Icewind Dale was more about the strategic nature of Infinity Engine combat than about the quality of the storyline. I loved it! A bit of a let down that Icewind Dale II isn't mentioned. Maybe Beamdog hasn't worked on that one?

Anyway, the Icewind Dale titles are amazing if you mastered the combat engine in these games and wanted to take it to the extreme. Neverwinter Nights is the weak link IMO. Dumbing it down to controlling a single character didn't work for me. And while BG2's gameplay is probably the most balanced, Torment amazing for being a masterpiece among masterpieces. Great announcement!
