As a long time Pokemon player since Red/ Blue, I wasn't sure how to feel about this game, but the fact that this looks like a great way to introduce my 5-year-old son to the Pokemon games makes me want to get it as a game we can enjoy together.
@Teksetter That's exactly my confusion too. @BanjoPickles remembers it on MSX2.
If wikipedia is correct, Castlevania first released in Japan on Nintendo's Family Computer Disk System in September 1986, then was followed up a month later by the MSX2 game Vampire Killer.
"Written by Grant Kirkhope - he of Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye 007 and Yooka-Laylee fame - you'll hear about the origins of each themE, what it was like to write for a Mario game, as well as zipping from Prague to Paris and back again to see the music being recorded with a live orchestra, and an opera singer, in all its glory."
So I just got through the part in the game where you experience the opera singing. WOW, that was amazing, brilliant, I have no words...
But I guess the update is not going something I really wanted and is so simple that I don't know why it's not there: the option of being able to return to the title screen when you're playing the game.
Sometimes I want to let my wife catch up on some of the cutscenes she missed while I was playing, and they're available from the title screen. But I have to press the Home Button, close the software, then re-open the software from the Switch main menu to jump back in.
The Switch doesn't even have a 'Reset' feature like Wii U did, which is odd.
I'm happy to hear about ARMS. It was a game I purchased early on, played for a while, didn't quite get into it, and put to the side. Later on, I picked it up again and it somehow clicked for me. I've been hooked on it since, and have put a considerable amount of time into it. Really happy with the new content they've pushed out for it, including Lola Pop and the badge system. Online matches have been fun!
Who would know that the controller should be updated? I didn't know until I saw this article on Nintendo Life. There's not even a message about it on the Switch, I think.
Very nice article! Appreciate the history behind the 'enhanced' versions. It's interesting for me to read because even though I played almost every Pokemon generation game since Red and Blue released in America, I never played any of the enhanced versions because I didn't think they merited an additional game purchase.
I played the demo on Wii U and wasn't too interested at the time. Now I play the Switch demo and it actually makes me want to play more. I'm a Pokemon fan but not really all that into Tekken-type games.
Finished the game a while back. I'm not overly fond with some of the archaic game design elements, but WOW, you simply have to admire the love and care that went into re-mastering the graphics and sound.
I've been playing through the first few worlds and though the game is fairly well made, I don't like not feeling in control at times. I feel like sometimes I just barely it make it through levels on luck alone rather than understanding how to maneuver around the obstacles. I'm not having a strong desire to see this game to the end.
Not sure this article really helped me much... It would have been nice if there were some examples of putting a character/ vehicle together and weighing in on the good and bad.
Like others have said before me, so many Zelda references in this article absolutely makes me smile.
Oh yeah, I do still have the stand-alone comic/ graphic novel of this somewhere. I think it's in good condition, I kept it sealed away. Awesome that it's getting a re-print.
This is one reason why I loved Nintendo (of America) when I was growing up (and still do). I actually mailed them letters quite frequently (this must have been early 90s), asking questions, giving game suggestions, and never did their replies feel like 'cut-and-paste' generic answers. They actually addressed my points, and that made me feel great, like I was making my own small contribution to how Nintendo operated, if that makes sense.
I actually have all their reply letters in a binder at home; I'll have to dig it up and ponder over it and perhaps share
Just wanted to chime in and say nice write-up, Tom. Your thoughts echo mine, and I feel this really was a good Direct.
Just some quick thoughts of my own (U.S. guy here): -That's awesome about the Wii games on the Wii U eShop. -Splatoon is looking cool, looking forward to its May release. -Looks like they're still pushing Xenoblade Chronicles X for 2015 (that's good) and the new trailer was nice. -I was always planning to get the New 3DS XL, so the one-size announcement didn't affect me.

Re: Konami Confirms There Are "Absolutely No Plans" To Bring Castlevania Requiem To Other Systems
The second sentence in the article begins with: "While the franchise didn't begin life on Nintendo hardware...."
Am I missing something, or is this incorrect? The franchise did begin on Nintendo hardware with the original Castlevania on NES...

I love glasses-free 3D!
Anyway, the only reason I don't play my 3DS that often anymore is because I have too many games to play on my Wii U.
