When you fill out the surveys for Club Nintendo and they ask about your satisfaction with the Nintendo online store, it's important to rate it as 'very dissatisfied', and indicate that we must have the ability to re-download purchases should a system get lost, or broken, stolen
Like most kids in the USA circa 1988 I got the box that included the Mario/Duckhunt cart for Christmas. Between that and my birthday I had a cool 50 bucks saved up and couldn't wait to go purchase my first game. 50 bucks was A LOT of money back then.
I walked into a Toys R Us that had all the games behind glass. I spent a long time looking and considering. Should I get Zelda? Contra? I knew those were awesome games that would give me hours of joy. But something else caught my eye. A purple game box featuring a muscle ripped barbarian wielding a sword. With a title like Deadly Towers how can you possibly go wrong?
As it turns out, game purchases could go very very wrong. I actually endured the game long enough to beat it, but I also learned a very important lesson in those days before the internet and 3rd party reviews. Always always always rent games first, before you plop down 50 bucks on a steaming pile of excretion.
Over the years I've considered it my parental duty and responsibility to make sure my kids are exposed to Ducktales, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, and Rescue Rangers. I've seen season DVD sets in Walmart for about 10 bucks.
The controller doesn't look that bad. Seriously needs a D pad over the analog stick though. Otherwise looks like a slightly larger NES controller with more contour for grip.
Nintendo made a strong showing here. Could they afford not to?
I'm a little concerned about over reliance on the Mario Bros family of games as heavy hitters. Too much of a good thing desensitizes into a very average play experience.
Well written letter, with some good points. Too many fans defend Nintendo to the end, while they drop the ball over and over again regarding everything from child labor to fair use.
I emailed Nintendo about my concerns this morning. Either this article is incorrect, or NOA is blowing smoke up my pants.
Hello, Thanks for writing. I can understand why you would be interested in transferring your downloaded content from your Wii to the Wii U. To answer your question, Wii U owners can wirelessly transfer content such as Miis, and WiiWare and Virtual Console games to their Wii U systems.
You will simply need to have both systems in your possession and both systems will need to be connected to the Internet. Only the Wii U will need an SD card to facilitate the transfer. The process is very similar to transferring content from Nintendo DSi to Nintendo 3DS or from Nintendo 3DS to Nintendo 3DS XL; which has been received positively by consumers. Transferred Wii content is accessible and can be played through Wii Mode, an application on the Wii U's main menu.
My SD card slot quit functioning several months ago. I've got over 200 VC purchases. Sounds like I'll be screwed out of transferring my purchases. Wouldn't have this kind of problem with STEAM. Even the ITUNES store now allows you to re-download anything you've EVER purchased from them on a new computer. Very very very sad when Nintendo's failing digital policies make Apple's seem enlightened.
It's amazing how many people are genuinely OK with children performing quasi-slave labor for the perceived benefit of cheaper costs. No problems as long as Western civilization does not expose their children to such practices.
This title is offensive. How about 'reaping hundreds of millions in profits' comes at a cost. Contrary to what multinational corporations would like us to believe, it is possible to pay fair wages, adhere to a fair work practices, AND to make a reasonable profit.
"My job is to work with retailers, work with other business partners to create demand for the product, and have the consumer get excited."
Translation: By creating a perceived shortage, more customers will scramble to pre-order.
It's a low brow sales technique for any consumer smarter than a donkey. While I'm on the fence about pursuing a Wii U close to launch, seeing Nintendo play stupid supply games like this makes me want to back off and wait.
Those photos look for suspicious for a simple 10 day experiment. I've been blowing in some of the same carts for more than 2 decades, and the pins look better than either of those examples.
I'm not claiming it's the best option , but the blow is still a quick and reliable fix. There should be no reason to 'blow' daily. Usually the dust is only a problem if the cart has been sitting for a long time.
Of course Nintendo advised people not to blow in their cartridge, because then you wouldn't be purchasing their overpriced and unnecessary cleaning kit.
With a much larger play book to choose out of Play Action Football has more complexity than regular Tecmo Bowl. It's certainly a better game then 10 yard fight or John Elway.
I would call it superior to standard Tecmo Bowl, which gets very boring quick having only 4 plays to choose from. Tecmo Super Bowl is the best of all, but we are unlikely to see it do to NFL licensing issues.
Too bad for VC. It was the main reason I purchased a Wii, about a year after launch.
The service was mostly disappointing from the get go. Too many bad games got green lighted while not enough time and money was spent in securing so many quality 3rd party titles.
It wasn't all bad but all the best 3rd party stuff (Megaman , Sonic, Final Fantasy, Chronotrigger...) are available in so many other formats. Would have been nice to see more 'exclusives' or reviving of forgotten franchises.
Do you really think they had any planning regarding a time line back in 1986? Where do the CDi games fit? I guess those don't count just because they are crap.
Zelda is a cash cow, and while the series includes some awesome games there is little rhyme or reason to connect some kind of greater meta plot to most releases.

His wiki does indeed confirm the rape arrest did not come until 1991. Guess nintendo dodged a bullet on that one.
