How dare thee say the original Final Fantasy is less than epic, or some how lesser than the sequels. This is one of, and likely the most important of games that defined the next era of role playing games, it should be treated with respect and reverence. This is like the Harriet Tubman, or the Cesar Chavez of rpgs. That is to say a bold title that broke free from the chains of oppression and opened the doors for a thousand other games that would never have came to be without this proceeding epicness.
Go ahead and say this game is only for those with a vested interest in vintage games, nostalgia be thy name. This game is the book of Exodus, an early and important chapter so near the Genesis of RPG console games, and yet it takes us so far. This game is not unlike Moses and it will lead you through the wilderness to the Mountain of Sinai. Enter the land of Canaan and pay homage to the Tabernacle, warriors of light.
I have to agree that the GBA version is rubbish, the nes orignal is an excellent challenge that requires some time and effort. Forget about auto target, it's more fun to learn your enemy. After a dozen or so battles you'll have a good feel of how many more points of damage/attacks are needed. Ninety nine of anything is totally unneeded. I dismiss these complaints.
If you buy a whole new system just to get it in a different color you should really look into some charities or something that could really use some money...
I like how he adds microsoft and sony's numbers and states that they outsell Wii as if they were the same company. Oh wait because if dual ownership they only equal it.
Bow down and worship Final Fantasy 1! Blasphemers be cast down into the fire pits! All your other precious rpgs owe their existence to this and Dragon Warrior.
You've got to be kidding me. Those songs sound in no way like direct rip offs. They may share a similar tone or arpegio but come on. Is that really the reason why? I don't see any real case based on those examples.
My personal wish list: 10. The Magic of Scheherazade 9. Tombs & Treasure 8. Wizardry 7.Clash at Demon Head 6. Maniac Mansion 5. Shingen the Ruler 4. Baseball Stars 3. Shadow Gate 2. Life Force 1. Tecmo Super Bowl
We've gotten a basket full of good games in recent months. My prediction would be to brace yourselves for a few more 'weak' release dates, and cross your fingers for Christmas.
Cheers to Simon's Quest. That game brings back great memories of a summer spent long ago. The game is an original epic quest, those early innovators had their work cut out for them. The game was unlike anything out there at the time.
I'll admit access to nintendo power may have been quite helpful in that old age before there was a real internet. I'm thinking of a particular dead end, where the method of passage is not so obvious.
Regarding the Top 20 list It would be great to see more of this kind of content to peruse in between release dates.
I forgot who it was, but a few months ago some one here posted about how they had emailed NoA about their displeasure with the quality and variety of virtual console releases. I'd like to thank them for the inspiration.
I took it to queue and wrote them my own letter of dissatisfaction, and I imagine quite a few others did too. Perhaps it’s coincidental but there really have been some great releases since a few weeks after that.
So did anyone else go as far as to contact NoA and tell them to give us the goods?
p.s. interestingly their responding email was snide and boisterous.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th July 2010 (North America)
Mike #17 you are right about one thing. Monday morning used to be something to be excited about even if the releases were not always classics.
Re: Mario Jumps Over Flag, Ends Arguments Forever
. I've never possessed the reflexes to pull it off, but I've seen it done many times back in 1986-87, on an original NES and SMB cart.
Re: Miyamoto: Nintendo May Need to Rethink its Online Approach
Nintendo should take a good look at the Steam community.
Re: Nintendo Cereal System Sells For $200
I bet it's chalk full of preservatives and artificial flavors. It should be safe to eat for another 25 years at least.
Re: Review: WarMen Tactics (WiiWare)
There's a ton of really bad games that proudly sport the Nintendo Seal of Quality. Deadly Towers, enough said.
Re: Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom
Excellent release. We need more quality yet obscure games.
Re: Dark Void Zero
Jimmy Fallon is featured in this game because he won some contest as a kid. How bizarre.
Re: MechAssault: Phantom War
Wow the graphics look worse than those of MW2...
Re: Nintendo Download: Fantasies, Wars and Words (US)
Thanks Tony, I appreciate that.

Re: Nintendo Download: Jedis, Drills and Bubbles (US)
NES Final Fantasy's degree of challenge is superior. Playing the remakes is blah, incredibly easy.
Re: Review: Tecmo Bowl (Virtual Console / Virtual Console Arcade)
Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES is the pinnacle of two player football action.
Unfortunately I don't think we'll see it unless they replace the licensed NFL teams and players.
Re: Nintendo Rep: Virtual Console Being Toned Down
Here's the web address. Be sure and let them know how you really feel.

Re: Nintendo Rep: Virtual Console Being Toned Down
Wii Ware is better then 90% shovel-ware. VC is also the main reason why I bought I Wii.
I'll stick with PC gaming in the future, for all my gaming needs. I'll be sure to let NoA know it too.
Re: Gold Nintendo World Championships Sells for $17,500
I'd like to see a full time line of how the gold cart got from Nintendo to where it is now.
Re: Nintendo Download: Drill Sergeants, Puzzles, Golf, Art Styles and Planets (US)
Sim Earth looks fun.
Re: Review: Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (WiiWare)
Well worth it to any old school Final Fantasy fan. The cartridge remakes are set at a similar price, with no real new content.
Re: New Console Colours to Hit Japan
If you buy a whole new system just to get it in a different color you should really look into some charities or something that could really use some money...
Re: E3 2009: Wii Vitality Sensor is Revealed
I'd buy a Wii-Ware Love Tester.
Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Only Multiplayer At Home
Graphics have almost no effect on the quality of game play. Game play is the winning focus.
Re: Previews: Personal Trainer - Walking
I'd like to see that other photo Corbie.
Re: Review: Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES)
My favorite Zelda game by a long shot.
Re: Nintendo Rejects Intellivision Lives for DSiWare
Boo Nintendo. How dare you deny the efforts of the Blue Sky Rangers.
Re: Sexy Poker Headed to WiiWare
Maybe we can get Bubble Bath Babes on the VC now!
Re: Nobunaga's Ambition
Classic strategy game. My personal favorite is Shingen the Ruler but this is very good.
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - May 2009
A strong update for sure. Hope Nintendo can spread the love around.
Re: Analyst Reckons Wii Investment is "Fools Gold"

Re: Nintendo Download: DSiWare, Equilibrio & Uncharted Waters (US)
sigh It's true you own the monopoly. We can express our dissatisfaction only to be mocked. I wish The Game Jew still did his singing video reviews...
Re: Nintendo Download: DSiWare, Equilibrio & Uncharted Waters (US)
Wow this new format SUCKS. Guess it's time to look for a new VC review site...
Re: SD Card Game Launching + Arcade Games Available on VC Now!
It's about time, I didn't buy a lot games because I was out of pages! Blocks were getting low too but I ran out of empty slots/pages first.
Cheers to SD cards! Nothing I've read has addressed if you can play games off the SD card on someone else's Wii. I'm guessing we are not the lucky?
Re: Review: The Tower of Druaga (Arcade)
I thought you were supposed to score it determined by your play experience, not score 'based on what most people would probably give it".
Re: Final Fantasy Finally Coming to VC
Bow down and worship Final Fantasy 1! Blasphemers be cast down into the fire pits! All your other precious rpgs owe their existence to this and Dragon Warrior.
Re: USA VC Update: Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
These type of releases are why I bought a Wii!!!
Re: USA VC Update: Commodore 64 Launches With Three Games
How awesome to have modern access to this classic gaming system.
Re: Rumour: EarthBound Not Coming to Virtual Console
Musical copyright infringement has to do with copying entire measures of songs exactly.
Like with ice ice baby, the bass line is exactly that of Under Pressure.
None of those Earth Bound examples display exact copies.
I'm chalking this up to INTERNET MYTH.

Re: Life Force
One of my favorite nes games ever. 8-bit shooter perfection.
Re: USA VC Update: Life Force

6. Maniac Mansion
5. Shingen the Ruler
4. Baseball Stars
3. Shadow Gate
2. Life Force
1. Tecmo Super Bowl

Christian video games, that is a gas.
I'd prefer to see the release of Bubble Bath Babes and Satantica II: Sodomy Rising.
Re: USA VC Releases: Secret of Mana and Street Fighter II Genesis
Clayfrd-
This is the form they specify to use for general comments.

I was impressed I got an actual unique response, and not just an automated 'Thanks for your comments, Nintendo cares about what you think' line.
