Re: Nintendo, PlayStation And Xbox Announce A Shared Commitment To Safer Gaming

meeto_1

@RCGamer I don’t agree with that being healthy for a friendship but you and your friend are consenting adults so do as you please. But all you have described is that certain behaviours are only appropriate in certain contexts.

For example I might talk about sex with friends but I wouldn’t do it with children present or adult strangers. They might not want to hear explicit language and why should they? You friend might not be bothered by you calling him racist names but doesn’t mean I should have to hear it if we are sharing a game lobby.

Re: UK Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sales Keep Rising, But Cyberpunk 2077 Goes Top

meeto_1

@Agramonte your commentary is very selective of the facts to paint a narrow viewpoint.

1. Cyberpunk was first showcased before the PS4 pro was even a thing let alone the PS5.

2. It was promoted in large part to the ps4 and Xbox community from the beginning.

3. Gamers who use sites like this one in general, know full well that switch cannot play the AAA games with same competence as the PS4 / Xbox. The expectation is already set

4. Trolls deliberately seek attention by both criticising a third party game on the switch and or mocking those who buy the switch version even though the community know the game won’t run as well and they knowing make that choice.

So it really isn’t comparable like you are trying to make it out. From my experience the last big games to launch on last gen consoles tend to show you just what you can pull out of the dated tech with years of experience rather than being a complete hot mess.

Re: UK Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sales Keep Rising, But Cyberpunk 2077 Goes Top

meeto_1

@TheLightSpirit I wasn’t sure if there were any benefits to waiting for a native release on the next gen consoles or if they will literally be the base game with all the preinstalled updates on the disc that they promise to release over the next few months?

Either way, I wanted to wait so the game is in its best condition when I experience it. Being primarily a Nintendo gamer I have yet to push my 4K tv in terms of gaming and would like to try some ray tracing as well in this game. I know it won’t quite compare to what PC achieve but I will be happy

Re: Japanese Charts: Switch Sales Remain Strong As Next-Gen Systems Hit The Market

@FargusPelagius
I honestly can’t see anything to root for regarding Microsoft. Over 10 years in the industry and what is their first party dev situation? Now they seem focused on buying out large devs instead of growing their own brands. Their launch lineup looks super poor as well.

It just seems like classic empty corporate strategy: plow as much money needed to ring fence the needed resources with little participation. The pieces are almost in place to cement themselves as the Netflix of games. It will likely pay off big time but it doesn’t excite me at all.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

meeto_1

I think there is some nuance missing from the conversation around the term cheating. IMO what is happening in the ACNH community is not the same by any means as someone cheating on the competitive multiplayer scene of smash ultimate.

Nintendo is also a little heavy handed penalising people who explore exploits in AC. I saw a video on how to get trees growing on a cliff edge which required following specific steps in game is this a violation? Who can say they read the T&Cs from front to back.

Re: Nintendo Is Deleting Hacked Dream Island Uploads In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

meeto_1

From Nintendo’s perspective if other users see content that isn’t achievable playing the game without hacking it, it may cause confusion. Players may question if they have missed out on secrets of the game. I briefly did when I saw the stars on trees.

Also, considering they won’t let devs tinker with MARIO characters does it sound like a company that wants modifications made to their games and shared through their own online service????

Re: Zoink Teams Up With EA To Release Lost In Random On Switch Next Year

meeto_1

This is the kind of game I just always gravitate towards. Not sure why developers struggle to make the right decision of what games to port to a Nintendo machine.

I watched most of the PS5 launch video and what game stayed with me? Little Devil Inside. That and Death Loop despite me playing few FPS, the narrative and aesthetic of Bethesda games are so strong I push past their usual choice of genre.

Why hasn’t level 5 made a stronger effort with their lineup I would buy most of their stuff. And I don’t think I speak just for me. I feel like there is a large section of Nintendo players who like games that look whimsical, fantastical that take you to worlds that look far removed from our own. Games that aren’t necessary concerned with serving 100% real ness lol.

Will keep my eye on this

Re: Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time Has Been Rated In Taiwan

meeto_1

I don’t understand the appeal of these games. I played the first one when I was quite young and instantly thought it was terrible and as a kid I played some rubbish! (Bugsby and Coolspot anyone?). Who ever thought that running towards the camera was a swell idea for most of your game is truly sadistic lol. That was enough to leave an ever lasting bad taste in my mouth even when they drastically changed the format of the other games.

I feel spoiled by early sonic and most mario games. I feel bad for Rayman who definitely should be the third-party king mascot of platforming. (Although secretly I hate the feel of his jumping)

In coming tangent rant: What’s with the terrible feel of rayman and sackboy when they jump. Why is it so bad!

@J_dz24 looking at a study that says more black people are found to have committed a crime and then repeatedly ignoring the fact that they face a disproportionate number of stop and search and other police intrusions is just deliberate ignorance (there are also loads of studies on this very problem). You completely ignore me pointing this out and keep talking about your stats because you want it to be true. And you need it to be true because you are a ..........

Re: Nintendo New York Store Windows Smashed During Riots In Manhattan

meeto_1

@J_dz24 It was a simple game but one final break down for you: I will center it around you, that way you can concentrate and have fun.

People who think like yourself, who also, unfortunately, decide to become police dont know they are racist. They have the idea in their head that black people commit more crime and then walk and patrol the streets over policing black and brown communities. You stop and search more people of colour disproportionately compared to the total local population fulfilling your fantasy that black people are inherently criminals.

Re: Nintendo New York Store Windows Smashed During Riots In Manhattan

meeto_1

@J_dz24 Was going to ignore your posts but this one was too much.

Lets play a game! lets take 100 black people and 100 white people. 20 from each group will have be in possession of drugs. Now lets introduce them to police. Hello friendly non racist police!

The police randomly search people from both groups. The only difference being they randomly search 50 black people compared to only 20 white people. They find 10 black people with drugs and 4 white people with drugs (20% success rate for both groups)

Tah Dah! Black people have committed more crimes because we searched them far more. Now people like you get to run around declaring black people to be more prone to committing crime. Congratulations!

here is a link for the UK but its the same in the US. Notice the Guardian is citing internal government figures in case you want to claim bias.

Re: Nintendo New York Store Windows Smashed During Riots In Manhattan

@J_dz24 Im glad we agree that the officer should be convicted but this is where we disagree:
1 all four officers should be arrested. His 3 colleagues should face lesser charges but they were complicit. Look at the video if you can stomach it and see how they stand there looking away. Not only did their presence make it impossible for civilian intervention but they didn't at any point challenge him or intervene.

2 Destruction of capital speaks very loudly in the most capitalist country, especially one facing a huge recession. As mentioned in my last post there are historical examples of riots forcing change. The yellow vests in France being a very recent example.

3 People have peacefully voted in a black president a host of democratic governors (most notably in 2018) and have still witnessed hundreds of high case murders of black people with very few cops being held accountable.

Kapernick used his platform to take a knee and had his football career cancelled.

Black Lives Matter endured counter protests exclaiming all lives matter.

The people who need to listen clearly aren't hearing the message. So it leads to riots.

Re: Nintendo New York Store Windows Smashed During Riots In Manhattan

meeto_1

I read an interesting article on TheRoot that argued that its a fallacy that riots dont achieve change by looking back at history (the Boston Riots being one example). It was an interesting read and I would recommend it to those who claim to only care for facts and figures. I also remember the yellow vest protests in France that made Macron government reverse their agenda. None of this is a comment of if its right or wrong but whether it can affect change.

A number of comments seem to want to white wash what triggered these riots and protests to begin with. Something 'Bad' happened translated means a black man had a knee pressed to his neck for 9mins whilst he and onlookers pleaded for his life. He died and then the official autopsy claimed that underlying health conditions, coupled with "potential intoxicants" ultimately led to his death and not the asphyxiation. If that doesn't pull back the curtain on systemic racism at work and how it protects racist cops who kill in broad daylight, nothing will.

I don’t usually play online but the few times I have. Well, it did not leave a good impression.

Animal crossing sums up how far behind Nintendo is. It’s a headache to add switch friends. It’s a headache to visit friends. It’s a headache to be on an island that is hosting multiple people. It’s a headache using your island whilst the gates are open for people to visit. It’s a thousand tiny paper cuts. When I have to travel to someone’s island I slightly sigh. It’s an annoyance.

The cynical person in me thinks this is a way for a legacy bank to stay fresh in the minds of kids. I see so many young adults using monzo and starling. The app banks from my experience are so easy to set up and have innovative features that the old brick and mortar banks struggle to implement.

Have been thinking for some time that I would like to see the uptake of the new app banks by young people since they will be tomorrow’s middle aged middle class.

Re: Japanese Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Overtakes Pokémon Sword And Shield's Lifetime Sales

@TeslaChippie I get it. I remember when I played the first hour before stopping that it seemed cheap in terms of production in many small areas. No voice acting, animals in the wild moving around aimless like robots appearing out of thin air with rough animation.

I hope with the next one they approach it with more ambition like We saw with the other big franchises.

Re: Massive Animal Crossing: New Horizons Datamine Reveals Exciting Potential Features

meeto_1

@Yorumi I appreciate that but I have two issues. A franchise can have features from the beginning for several of its sequels and then remove the feature. That in itself is not an indication that the game is unfinished. That brings me to the second point: what is new in the game. Terraforming and adding furniture to the outside are IMO massive new features that allow for loads of new possibilities. The terraforming itself, I can only imagine took a lot of work to implement. So its not as if they refreshed the graphics and that's it.

To want publishers to be bold and add new mechanics but also expect everything that came before be transferred over I think is unrealistic. TO then declare it as publishers conning the fan base in some way or that its a sign of rushing/laziness seems to ignore all the moving parts.

Re: Massive Animal Crossing: New Horizons Datamine Reveals Exciting Potential Features

meeto_1

I'm noticing more and more people making bad faith/dishonest arguments that games that add additional content or DLC were unfinished upon launch or are cutting out vital parts of the game to fleece gamers. This seems purely based on initial, and in some cases, continued practices of select publishers. Its dumb in my opinion and frustrating to read because its void of logic.

A game based on slowly having access to more activities is 'unfinished' because you cant do all the things from day one? It lacks logic. It has taken me 180 hours to see the credits and my island still looks like trash. These new features if they materialise will be welcomed, but they are additions not necessities.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How To Time Travel - What Happens When You Time Travel

meeto_1

Its interesting to me. I have seen a lot of AC fans who are clearly against time travelling and dont want to interact with those who do. Even a person I follow on Youtube binned gifted items from followers who time travel.

Im new to the series and I have chosen not to time travel. I think its a great mechanic: 'delayed gratification' waking up to see the incremental changes you actioned, seeing what plants have bred, if any. But there are no leader boards, its not competitive, so one person changing the time, in my eyes, doesn't cheat or deny others. Because of that, I'm fine with interacting with people who play the game their way. However, I don't think I would accept rare flowers I could grow myself or achieve on my own. But that is because I want to own that achievement.

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch Sales Plummet As Shipments Get Put On Hold

meeto_1

@Dezzy you are entirely right. As far as Sales as a percentage of total systems available it’s really good. The numbers themselves are really good. I just had it in my head, because of how much people have been pining for this remake and how well regarded the original is that it would sell crazy. But someone else here pointed out that only one game on the PS4 has sold over a mil in the first week. I didn’t know that. Makes you realise just how impressive Nintendo’s numbers are in Japan.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

None of that excuses treating children poorly like all of the examples cited in that article. End of.

America has a duty of care to refugee children. And it was poorly handled. My original point is that America is no stranger to rounding people up and caging them. dont like the most recent example? then go with the Japanese internment camps.

Still can’t work out why children can only seek asylum with their parents and not extended family. Especially in the case you cited where the adult was acknowledged as a family member and was released into America so wasn’t suspected of wrong doing. But I’m afraid the answer won’t make any sense.

Anti trans comment: you referred to the trans women dismissively as a bearded-man. But again, like the articles you gravitate towards you can’t acknowledge your bias and try to argue from a fake position of impartiality but it comes through. The whole “we don’t hate refugees just the ones who do it incorrectly.“

I know my biases and argue my position because of them.

@kalmaro https://www.hrw.org/news/2019/07/11/written-testimony-kids-cages-inhumane-treatment-border

And again like with that small negative trans comment you wrote during our ‘what does freedom of speech’ mean you are starting to show your bias whilst trying to display pure impartiality who is only interested in the facts. The whole: dragging kids to the border to get a free ticket into America. It’s a silly argument that’s so illogical. It either denies refugees as being legitimate or it argues that adults should seek refuge for themselves and leave children alone in an area they deem unsafe for their own family. I guess the men should arrive first and leave the women and children. Or maybe the women should go alone so the man can look after the children. Also I may be wrong, but wasn’t it reported that a lot of these refugees turned up at legal points of entry to declare themselves refugees only to spend weeks in cages. So they followed the American protocol correctly but you still suggestively make them out to be criminal phonies.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

@Kalmaro and now for Chinese propaganda using the exact same template:

“Wait what? We are not just putting Muslims in camps for the fun of it. Some of them are terrorists and we have to unteach this behaviour.

Most of them aren’t true Chinese patriots and if some of them die during their re-education that isn’t our fault.”

So an influx of men and women stole random children (in large numbers) to Game the refugee system. You happily buy all the reports that say ‘China bad’ but only select the reports from the mainland that say ‘but refugees also very bad do not trust’

and kids in the care of the richest economy have no guarantee to life? And we can trust all this because the government openly let reporters and members of the senate have access to check on the facilities and the well being of those people? Or did they deny access and give very limited oversight similar to the Chinese government, almost as if they had something to hide? Sorry but your argument reads like something written by fox or briettbart. Hyper biased, completely illogical.

@Brady1138 a bit late to the conversation. I’m going to use this to excuse your selective arguments. There are a number of posts on here that go beyond criticising a government which I’m completely in favour of. Institutions of power should always be criticised when they hurt everyday people. But generalising an entire people In a derogatory way and mocking their eating Habits etc is definitely under the realm of xenophobia.

Quick lesson for you: xenophobia when applied to Chinese people is called sinophobia. And you thought you delivered a sick burn by correcting my spelling. That’s gonna sting for a while. Splash your face with some water and take a deep breath. Problem solved. You’re welcome.

@Trajan based on what? Give me one example citing a sentence or view point that I have clearly expressed in this comment section that would suggest I’m a fascist. Then they use words to which they don’t understand the meaning.

Everyday citizens not the Chinese government, so why are you telling me that not shouting out that the CCP is oppressive is supporting them. Can you distinguish people citizens and the government? Because, if not I’m not sure what to make of American citizens if I had to judge them based on Trump, Betsy, McConnel and co.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

meeto_1

Seeing an ongoing trend in this comment section that is prevalent nearly every where else. The excuse to use China’s GOVERNMENT to belittle China as a whole. At the same time holding up other countries like they are the blueprint of how democracies should be. There is no comment section big enough to list all the major atrocities committed by the UK or USA both to its own citizens or across the globe. The UN only recently declared parts of America as have similar standards to that of the undeveloped countries. No drinking water and open sewage in some counties. The UK deporting British citizens to Jamaica having lived here 50+ years after their families were invited here.

This fallacy that America is the land of the freedom and free speech is nonsense as well. Yes there’s the constitution but it hasn’t stopped countless administrations from squashing free speech. McCarthism, The civil rights movement, even Assange.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

@COVIDberry I don’t think It is bigoted to critique The possibility of someone’s bias being tied to their privilege. I try to recognise my privilege as a male and how it can cloud my ability to be impartial to certain concerns and voices. It’s an ongoing process. My point was that to Have such an indifference to protecting marginalised people from hate speech. Belittling it to nothing more than adults too fragile to hear mean words said to them screams of a person who doesn’t experience it (Directly or properly seeing the damage done to others) and odds are, if your a betting man, a white straight male. And that’s simply because their gender, skin tone and sexuality have never been under attack, not because I think they are inherently More evil or anything nefarious.

I knew better to phrase it this way as I wrote it because I know directly calling this out will turn some people off but I think there is validity to questioning everyone’s privilege and whether it clouds their judgement. But also, I recognise from experience there are a lot of people of colour who also buy into freedom of speech in its absolute form for fear of being perceived weak among other reasons.

@Zuljaras “I want things separated so there is everything for everyone “ isn’t that the point ? People in Hong Knog cannot write a sign stand outside of a government building and chant their dissent. They can’t go onto a political forum online and dissent. They can’t read a newspaper that is in opposition to the government. They have limited options of voting in officials not signed of by the government. So you and I now know they cannot protest the way we can. So knowing that, how would you like them to protest? Since you don’t want it in animal crossing. Please tell me where it is appropriate?

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

@Kalmaro here we have two distinctive acts: hate incident and hate crimes.

This link does a better job of defining the two
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/law-and-courts/discrimination/hate-crime/what-are-hate-incidents-and-hate-crime/

So to be clear. My example relating to the prime minister, it wasn’t a crime or incident and I don’t think it should be classed as either at all. Having said that, I don’t think it’s appropriate that a member of Parliament, who should represent all citizens equally should be making jokes at the expense of a small minority. I think that even more so having seen the result of such a small comment.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

meeto_1

@Kalmaro I haven’t read any studies or seen any articles citing a study making the link between unlimited speech and hate crimes/violence. I have read pieces for example: when our current prime minister wrote a piece in one of our national newspapers and jokingly said Muslim women who wear the veil (where only their eyes are visible) look like letterbox’s. The weeks after this comment there was a noticeable spike in reported hate crime from the Muslim community. This is too much of a coincidence and speaks to the idea that if you make it acceptable to mock groups it logically escalates.

There have also been pieces written about YouTube channels and reddit threads that openly foster various (insert hate) groups and how a large number of the white terrorist acts we have seen in New Zealand, America and Germany over the last few years were part of these groups. I think along with a sweep of far right political parties taking control, it has created a more violent world.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

@willi3su it’s like you are suggesting my position is of a silly idealist whilst you’re the realist. You think we live in a world where if we identify racist and say the right thing to them, challenge it, have open dialogue then over time the majority will see the error of their ways. Really? We live in a world where ‘alternative facts’ exist where people cling to misinformation even if you show them facts and figures. Some people are racist because they are misinformed some are racist because they like to be.

Let’s not straw man me either. 1: I know a large number of people are racist and or hold racist views about all/certain minorities. I don’t play pretend. What I like is that I go to work and no one at work feels like they can insult me, same at the pub, the restaurants etc.

2: I don’t need the whole world to like me but they will tolerate my presence, my very being. They can have their ignorant view points but they will not openly insult me and use what ever racial slur they like.

Racism can’t be eradicated. It can be muted and the numbers can be limited. You limit the numbers by not giving power to racist ideology. If people can freely spread their racist view points it attracts more to the cause.

@willi3su
it keeps things open and honest:

it allows for a swarm of men to march holding ticki torches spouting racist remarks about Jewish people.

It allows the prime minister to mock Muslim women in the UK

What was the result of this maximal freedom? Increase in anti Semitic violence and death of Jewish people.

A measurable uptick in islamphobia directed at Muslim women.

Those communities didn’t get a chance to distance themselves from the undesirables. In fact they became bigger targets. Those are just two examples. There are so many. This idea that communities have to embrace open hatred so they can put in the work to change their minds or refer them to their enlightened friends is silly. It’s no ones job to do that. If people generally want to learn they come out of their bubble and Find resources.

My last comment on this topic is this. To say thank god In America you can say what ever you want, whilst citing examples where people face consequences for being racist, is just an indirect way of saying “I think people should be able to say what ever vile derogatory racist stuff they want to people in their community without fear of being prosecuted.” And I can’t help but wonder why.
