Depending on how effective the chip is, I'll probably buy a second Switch for this. While publicly, Nintendo has to condemn these types of things, people like me cause them to privately cheer because they know a lot of modders will be buying second systems for this. I had two 3DSs and two Wiis for the same reason.
Switch content aside, I've been playing with the beta for a while now and what's sad is that for a "gaming-centric" application, it does horrible job of what its supposed to do. For example, Chrome Remote Desktop does a better job of handling the bitrate and quality than Rainway does. I can actually somewhat play Diablo through CRD, wheras it is completely unplayable through rainway. Tried 3 different browsers. I'll see how it does once my internet connection is upgraded, but for now my 7Mb upload doesn't seem to be enough to handle Rainway's protocol.
its not anecdotal when everyone else is experiencing the same shortfall. the mobility factor isn't enough when a large portion of the indie games are available on android/ios and the rest of them play perfectly fine on a $200 laptop that can also do many other things.
@electrolite77 other consoles either have more/better exclusives or have a wide enough library that the Indies don't make or break the console. The switch has a lot on the horizon and I already am purchasing SMO, Skyrim, Gear.Club, and will likely pick up Doom. But aside from SMO which is exclusive and Gear.Club which currently exists as a cash grab microtransaction nightmare on mobile, the only reason to pick up the other games is to be able to play them on the go. The entire appeal of the Switch is rooted in its ability to be a home and mobile console all at the same time. That + Zelda was enough to draw a large crowd so far, but the system being crippled by a nonexistent virtual console, crappy online multiplayer environment, lack of a browser or usable apps like netflix and youtube, a large gap between top tier releases and a reliance on the whole "take it with you" for everything else means the Switch will see a sharp decline in sales with spikes during the good game releases. My switch has sat on my night stand for months because after finishing Zelda, nothing has come along that is good enough to make it my "go-to" system for gaming. Meanwhile my PC, and to a lesser extent, my xbox and PS, see consistent usage due to a constant flow of quality releases or at the very least, free old games being offered via PS Plus and Games with Gold.
Having said all that, I love the Switch. I'll be playing SMO in 10 days and Skyrim (for the 500th time) a month later. But unless the pace picks up for high quality AAA releases, the Switch will suffer the same fate as my beloved PS Vita. A new port will be released of a game I love playing on another system. I'll feel nostalgic so I'll pick it up and buy the game. Then I'll play for a bit, get bored, and forget about it. Then find it in my drawer once in a while, wipe away all the dust, play for an hour, then forget about it for another month.
@JunkRabbit an option to turn Wifi off would be a great addition. As it stands, you can either have all or nothing for wifi/bluetooth, which is very frustrating. The only reason i bothered to run in airplane mode to see if i got better frames is because of my experience with the Vita, which seems to use a significant amount of CPU power just to keep the wifi active. I don't mind the little nuances of dealing with a brand new console, i just hope Nintendo implements some changes to keep the system running smooth and iron out some of these quirks.
@JunkRabbit even connected constantly to my wifi, there was a significant dps drop until i turned wifi off completely on the siwtch. The best way to test this is to play in handheld where you can turn airplane mode on fully since the joycons are hard-connected. With wifi on, the framerate stutters even in handheld 720p. Airplane mode on and i only got a few fps dips in the most dense of areas (forest areas etc)
this isn't new for low powered mobile devices. When Borderlands 2 came out for the PS Vita it was pretty well known that you could keep above 30fps by putting the device in airplane mode. I've been doing the same when playing BOTW docked. (not airplane mode, but disabling wifi) and yes it really does make a difference.
As an american, i'll be seeing Mar 10, 2017 everywhere. I typically write my dates 2017.03.10 (year.month.day for largest to smallest) so I suppose written out its still 2017 Mar 10. I do think the M:D:Y method is silly though. But we also use standard instead of metric which is even more annoying. An entire month or more of school could have been compressed to probably 3 days if we only had to learn metric. /rant
I hate earbuds, but i'll buy those just because Zelda lol.
Honestly i think most people will only be interested in the Pro controller to start. The rest of those (even the joycon charging grip) seem like unnecessary items for all but the most lazy people.
@DarthNocturnal same. i know literally nothing about the show, but the opening alone (which i've just now seen for the first time) has made me want to start the series right away haha
I was watching the video and completely impressed....and then i read that it required a Tool-assisted emulator. Not really impressive anymore. Just requires someone having enough time and patience to do the work.
I think i'm most surprised by your age and the fact that you didn't know this. I wouldn't expect someone born post 1990 to necessarily know this trick, but being in your 30s it's a bit surprising.
@BenAV This was my first thought as well. Unless they changed the controls to only need one hand to drive (like real driving. assuming auto transmission of course. since drivers these days don't know what a clutch is).
@WhiteTrashGuy I had that game on NES, as well as Exodus and Bible Adventures. dat nostalgia. coincidentally, all the aforementioned games are available in java form through Wisdom Tree directly to play in browser.
3DS - New Leaf PS3 - Infamous (yes the first one. i'm stuck in 2007) XB360 - borderlands (again....the first one. stop judging me!) Wii U - new super luigi u
I still use my Wavebird on my GameCube upstairs. I'll just get the Nyko Wii U Pro controller, since it has the XB360 layout instead of Nintendo's variation of it.
My sister and I played this game all the time as kids. We had Hole in One competitions, most creative jump competitions etc. My memories of this game are absolutely amazing. I picked it up on VC day one and have already spent hours upon hours trying to re-learn some of the tricks i had mastered as a child.
Will be playing some more NFS Most Wanted probably. I'll give Tank Tank Tank a try. I always play a couple rounds of Plants vs Zombies before bed.And of course, continue through Borderlands.
I own Minecraft on PC, Xbox, Android and iOS. I only play the PC version. Chances are, as cool as it would be to see it cross platform, I'd pass on the purchase unless it came with some sort of bonus.

the problem is that all the good 3rd party games have been on Steam for longer and much cheaper.

Re: Nintendo Announces My Nintendo Discounts, Charitable Work and Facebook Features for MAR10 Day
I already tweeted at nintendo america and got no response. They should release Super Mario Run for Android on March 10. It's been long enough.
Also, why not a discount voucher for the switch version of Mario Kart 8?
