Earlier today we reported on a new discovery that Kalle Demos from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker can be killed in a single hit (or more accurately 'splash'). In a mix of wanting to verify it for ourselves as well as provide some lovely HD visuals of it taking place, this tireless reporter worked through a new save file to get what he needed.
In the video above you'll find all you need to repeat this curious quirk for yourself, although you will have to have a save file wherein you haven't defeated Kalle Demos or start a new file. Enjoy!

I'm sure others have figured these out long before now. It's just that video media is more common these days.
Deja vu
Wow. Now I can say that the boss is really easy. I always had a hard time with Kalle Demos. Does anyone know if this works on the Second One?
@Shard1 If you can get to Ganon's Tower in time I can't see what not
this is new?
And I thought Thardus in Metroid Prime being weak to the Plasma Beam was an oddity...
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
“These days“? It's been common for a long time. I'm surprised it hasn't been revealed sooner IF it has indeed been discovered before. Or at the very least, talked about more.
@DarthNocturnal It's far easier to record and upload videos "these days". You can do it with your phone. It was much more of a hassle back then.
if it was well known, speedrunners would all use this method in their runs, and after making some quick reserch, neither the old nor the newest runs do it this way, so i'm gonna assume its ligit... great find by FishWaffle_64!! ;D
This game is so gorgeous.
I love when new stuff like this is found.
If this had been discovered before now, then it would be used in speed runs - but runners didn't know about it, so it hasn't been officially discovered until now.
Runners don't use it because it's not really the fastest way to kill it/end the dungeon.
@Meowpheel really?! can you elaborate on that? ô.Ô
@huxxny well, for starters doing this involves fiddling with the weapons to equip the bottle, and using it twice. Once to get the water and again to use it.
Meanwhile, Kalle Demos can be killed with quick spin attacks in one go, just as quickly as doing this.
@Meowpheel well, that actually makes a lot of sense...
after i've been fooled with that MTPO "finding" not long ago, i was suspicious about the "news"... well, shame on me i guess!! ;D
This has been known since the GCN days. One of my high school friends pulled it off when we were playing through it with our Melee group after school. Don't recall if he just tried it or had heard about it prior, but we didn't think it was a big deal. Sorta neat, I guess.
Though, I could have sworn people were talking about it on message boards in those days...
This is just cool. One more thing I didn't know when I did my 3 heart quest. As I now say: Zelda is more dangerous than Gannon in this game!
"Oh, Great Alex..."
Never heard of this one, but it is really nice.
Remember back then when we had magazines filled with this kind of info instead of "to unlock the secret character, pay U$7,99"
I sure miss that
I love Makar! Now I feel like playing Wind Waker again...
Get ready to make some sammiches whilest you sail! Most of this game was soooooi boring.
People probably remember it well because the actual fun parts were REALLY good.
@khaosklub Personally I loved the sailing, I found it quite therapeutic.
@khaosklub I've played this many, many times and I don't find it boring. The first time through I spent a bit too much time out on the open water just trying things I wasn't ready for and that got a little long and frustrating but now I love it. It's truly a different feeling from other games. I do wish the sailing was more realistic and dynamic so there was a skill based way to decrease your travel time and "be awesome" at it.
"If you've never seen it, it's new to you!" Just saying!
I love this game! I just finished replaying Wind Waker HD... If I had know before, I would have tried it.
I don't find sailing boring! It was soothing, plus it gives a wonderful sense of exploration.
@aaronsullivan
Translation:
"First time, I actually paid attention to sailing, now I just play 3DS while occasionally looking up. I do wish the sailing was actually fun and engaging rather than a tedious loading screen"
First time I played on gamecube, I stopped after dragon roost when I was required to sail again. The wiiu release allowed me to finish with fast sailing and the gamepad map. I took the gamepad over to the kitchen as I fixed myself a snack while watching links head move across the map, with occassional stops for giant octoroks. Sailing is the majority of the game. It's dull, nothing fun about it. Theraputic isn't fun either @loui. You know what would have made the game better? You tap the map, and are instantly transitioned there! Even the warp points were poorly placed!
Heh, sailing and exploring the sea was actually my favorite part.
@khaosklub The sailing certainly wasn't boring (except for maybe the fetch quest), there was enough going on with the weather, surroundings, enemies, undiscovered islands, etc to keep it interesting.
Someone on Youtube said it was referencing spring water being hazardous to carnivorous plants....huh. o.o
@khaosklub Was that supposed to be a translation of what I was saying? If so, it was poor. Very.
My point was that I went to every little pirate outpost and treasure area before I could really get everything and spent time getting all the little extras which then slowed the pace of the game the first time. Searching only those made many of them feel somewhat generic.
In later sessions I learned to just veer off the course a bit and explore them when I felt like it but stay on the main objectives and it was more balanced.
