Re: Switch Online N64 Controllers Were Restocked Today, Did You Get One? (North America)

grovertheblue

This is borderline impossible. I missed out on the original release in fall 2021. I have been checking their website 2-3 times a day since the start of April and I haven’t seen a single controller available. WTF Nintendo? I get that there are chip shortages and other factors at play, but still, 8 months later and every once in a while you offer the few controllers you found in your couch for sale?

And isn’t purchase of these conditional on being an NSO subscriber? How the heck do scalpers/bots get these unless they are paying members?

Hopefully I can win the lottery and get a chance to give Nintendo $300 for 4 of these in Canada. The money is yours if you want Nintendo.

Re: Minecraft Gets Free Ice Age DLC, Adding 30 Prehistoric Skins To The Game

grovertheblue

So how does one go about getting this content on their Switch? The link in the article takes me to the Microsoft website...I don't play minecraft myself, but my kids do. I have always been baffled by how complicated it seems to be to access, login, and do almost anything with Minecraft beyond just play the actual base game...any help or direction would be appreciated.

I checked the eShop online and I couldn't find this free content anywhere there either...

Re: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Joins Switch Online's Expansion Pack Next Week

grovertheblue

@HexagonSun I haven’t played a single N64 game yet, precisely because I don’t have one of those controllers. I made the mistake of not immediately jumping on their two fall controller sales and well, 7 months later and still not a single controller available yet? WTF Nintendo?

Money in hand over here. Please release some more controllers. I will take 4.

Re: Video: Why Didn't Square Enix Port The Kingdom Hearts Collection To Switch?

grovertheblue

@OrangeSoda I feel almost exactly the same way. I too have been waiting for almost 2 decades to play this series on a Nintendo console. As much as I don't want to invest in cloud gaming, I am already a 99% digital Switch gamer, and I see the cloud becoming more and more mainstream.
The first KH game will be my cautious foray into cloud gaming I think. Worth a try for an opportunity to try out this solid series on Switch.

Re: Editorial: Rediscovering the Gems of the Wii U Library

grovertheblue

It was and still is an amazing console in my mind. Nintendo's first foray into HD, the gamepad is one of the most comfortable and dynamic controllers I've ever used and the games, oh the games, were solid.

It is a shame that people in general seem to hate it so much. It certainly deserved much more appreciation by the general gaming public.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's System Updates Bring The Wii U to Another Level

grovertheblue

@DakotaM47 Yep, folders please. My setup in my 3DS uses them heavily and I see huge application for them on my WiiU with my growing library of games and my 500GB hard drive steadily filling up. I am a bit of a hoarder and while @unrandomsam suggestion to organize by screen has worked so far, my screens per platform are not enough already. Folders would be very welcome and if you don't want to use them, whatever, no ones loss.

PS: Nintendolife, @ThomasWhitehead, when are you going to get a "like", "+1" "up or down arrow" system for your comments section? WiiU Daily's (http://wiiudaily.com/2014/06/miiverse-update-2/) system in their comments works quite well and serves to encourage people to share and comment more on articles IMO. Always nice to get some feedback from people and fellow readers on your views and opinions. Just a thought.

Re: Review: Unepic (Wii U eShop)

grovertheblue

Hey, does anyone know how to add/write notes on the Castle Map? I totally skipped through the in game explanation by accident and I can't seem to figure it out on my own....And I can't find any instructions online anywhere that describe how to do so. Thanks in advance. Great game so far though, "Take some gold, he said, it'll be great he said.....death #1...."

Re: Review: EarthBound (Wii U eShop)

grovertheblue

Great review Corbie. I rented Earthbound as a kid, but didn't ever really get into it. Not playing it through is one of my biggest regrets from during my gaming childhood. I am very excited to play through (and finish) the game this go around.

I also have to say your closing statement is excellently crafted. "playing Earthbound is like revisiting a vivid childhood memory of fun and adventure. You can’t repeat the past, but you can certainly revisit it." Really sums up the nostalgia surrounding my and I am sure many gamers love of Nintendo and other retro experiences

Re: Talking Point: The Importance of the Virtual Console

grovertheblue

I have to say that regular sales of games would be a great idea. If the iOS App store is anything to go off of, I know that when titles are on sale I personally am much more likely to make a purchase. I have already made several Wii U eShop purchases of sale priced games that I probably would have never bought full price. Not that they're not good games, but everyone only has limited funds and some games just don't make the cut, unless of course, sales prices are enticing enough. Agreed though that the Virtual console prices are pretty high. But, then again, alot of the games released would cost you almost as much if not more if you tried to buy the original cartridge second hand. I believe the insanely low prices on the iOS App store are partially to blame for most peoples perception of an acceptable price regardless of Nintendo's input/time costs to release these games on the eShop.

Re: Talking Point: The Next-Gen Console War is Wii U's to Lose

grovertheblue

Great article. I have to agree with the outlook you have for the Wii U. I know that this is a Nintendo-centric community, so we're mostly all pro-Nintendo and Wii U, but I really do believe that the price of the upcoming consoles and the smaller gap in graphical fidelity will indeed make the Wii U more attractive to the "casual" and non-gamer consumer crowd. I believe the Wii U will be just fine. And it's an excellent console offering in many respects. I very much enjoy it.

Re: Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And The Challenges Facing Nintendo This Generation

grovertheblue

Hey NintedoLife, Great article. It is nice to see a consolidated Q & A with Patcher about Nintendo versus just snippets of him "bashing" them.

There is all this Doom and Gloom about Nintendo as of late. Furthermore, Patcher's comments about investors and their lack of interest headed forward I find disheartening. However, Nintendo has been around for what? about 100 years? I know that there may not be a tremendous amount of data on the subject, but what about a feature piece on Nintendo's stock/financial viability/health over the past say 15, 25, 40 years? The Big N was in a bad situation with the gamecube and was able to make a huge come back. I don't believe people take enough thought to consider the long term health of a company such as this when they start yelling "Wii U is doomed, it has already failed, 4 months out of the gate" ? How has Nintendo faired compared to Sony or Microsoft financially speaking in the last several years? I know Sony/Microsoft have other sources of revenue than just games but, how is Nintendo doing versus the gaming divisions of Sony and MS? Just a thought.

Re: New Research Claims Wii U Success Hinges On A Price Cut

grovertheblue

I really can't see the PS4 or 720 coming out with tech that blows the Wii U out of the water and still have them priced close to that of the Wii U. Consider the price discrepancy between the Wii and PS3/360 last gen and the tech difference. I believe the Wii U is reasonably priced for what it offers. The current financial climate is leaving people with less disposable income to spend on video games and other forms of entertainment. And I agree that likely a large portion of the viable VG consumer market is waiting on the price and release of the PS4 and 720 before they commit to the Wii U.

N-Life, you should definitely do a retrospective piece on readers and industry analysts views/predictions of the current market and the calls for a Wii U price drop, this holiday season and see how accurate everyone was.

Re: Surprise Ubisoft Sale Arrives on Wii U eShop in North America

grovertheblue

I'll be picking up AC3 as long as I can get my external hard drive setup in time...Arkham city ate up most of my 32GB. And I plan to download almost every retail title I plan to acquire on the WiiU, so AC3's 17GB will have to occupy my external drive. Question, does anyone know if you can hook a hard drive with content on it up to another WiiU to play/share those games?

Re: Pikmin 3 Will Allow For GamePad-Only Play

grovertheblue

@LavaTwilight I have never played a Pikmin game, but I am quite excited for P3. I would have bought a WiiU regardless as I am a dedicated Nintendo fan, but this game is a big reason I bought a WiiU. I am stoked for this one.

Re: EA: Excited About New Generation Which Is "Yet to Come"

grovertheblue

@rjejr "Has anybody ever stopped to think that we don't know a whole lot about new Wii U games because Nintendo isn't allowed to talk about new games on the other systems yet until the new systems are announced?" That's a novel thought and one that is totally viable. Hopefully, publishers recognize the potential of releasing games on all three platforms and give WiiU the games is derserves. I don't see the 720 or PS4 being that much more powerful than the WiiU anyway, if they are so much more powerful and the WiiU is already "overprice" how much will these new consoles cost? Upwards of $500-$600 dollars. I see a great deal of the people complaining about the price of the WiiU quietly shutting their mouths once they see what the PS4 and 720 have to offer both price and spec wise.

Re: EA: Excited About New Generation Which Is "Yet to Come"

grovertheblue

@Einherjar Well put, I feel quite similar to what you said. Also, I find less and less time to play games and the content that Nintendo releases on their consoles is more than enough to satisfy my gaming appetite and available time. And honestly, the nostalgia I have with Nintendo counters any technical prowess that Sony or MS have to offer.

Re: The Definitive Guide To Wii U

grovertheblue

Great summary. Thanks for posting this. Can't wait for the 18th of November, now only if EB Games would let me pre-order I could rest easy for the next 66 days, 1 hour and 38 minutes....http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/

Re: Wii U Will Launch With Digital Store

grovertheblue

This will be awesomely troublesome. I can see myself spending a whole lot more on games, now that a trip to the store is not required. However, certain games will still be physical copy purchases for me I am sure. ie. Zelda

Re: Talking Point: The Role of the N64 on the 3DS

grovertheblue

Personally I loved playing through Ocarina of Time and I am also currently enjoying Starfox on the 3DS. These two games are classics in my mind and even though I have played them over and over I still find them engaging and a treat to play. The graphical updates they have both undergone very effectively transition these two games into 2011. I absoutely loved playing through these games again in 3D and enhanced visuals. They both feel like they could have been developed this year in my mind. I agree that a lower price point would make future N64 remakes much more enticing to the masses though.

I say bring the remakes on! I love the ability to play these types of games on a handheld and the added 3D content reinvigorates the titles for me. Beyond the visual enhancements and the use of the second screen for menu and some gameplay/item improvements I don't see any benefit in the gyro inclusions however.

I spent a lot of my childhood/teenage years playing through these titles and I don't think that I am alone as a Nintendo fan in saying that Nostalgia is a HUGE part of the allure for my gaming appetite. And these types of remakes are chalk full of nostalgia.

And even though it will never happen, this game alone would sell systems like crazy if it was remade similarly to OoT all I will say is......GOLDENEYE

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life's eShop Appearance

grovertheblue

Agreed this is Uber cool. Nintendo Life has definitely earned this opportunity. I have followed the site since it started out as VC Reviews and I am most impressed with your continued effort to cover all things Nintendo. This site is my resource for gaming/nintendo news. And the attention to retro titles and content is also much appreciated.

Re: FAQ: Nintendo Ambassador Program and Free eShop Games

grovertheblue

@James
I am quite stoked for the free games that are being offered. I do have one question about the NA press release though. This paragraph states "Once the paid versions of the games are posted to the Nintendo eShop later in the year, the updated versions will be available to Ambassadors for download at no cost." What will "updated" versions be I wonder and how will they differ from the early versions available to Ambassadors?

I am hoping for nes games: Metroid, Wrecking Crew, Final Fantasy, Kirby's Adventure and/or Star Tropics.

Re: Canadian 3DS Summer Tour Details

grovertheblue

WTF! Where is the Saskatchewan love? Just because we don't have the population base doesn't mean we don't play video Games! I mean come on if you're driving a truck across Canada you have to pass through Sask to get from West to East and vice versa. Sask always gets shafted...
