Part of it is because nintendo refuses to make their consoles friendly to port for or develop for, and while nintendo always makes fantastic games, not all third parties want to spend the extra time/resources/money on nintendo's uniqueness. Whether it was using cartridges over discs in the N64 days, a backwards approach to online gaming with the GCN, motion controls with Wii or the gamepad with Wii U, most third parties dont care about developing for nintendo systems because it requires a lot of extra work to make quality games. I've noticed third party games are always better on non-nintendo platforms outside of a few exceptions. And its not because we dont see DLC or certain features (though that doesnt help), those games just arent designed with the gamepad or wiimote in mind, so they feel clunky when it gets forced on them. I know these things are what make nintendo consoles unique, but third party devs dont want unique... They want simple, powerful and cost efficient. The Wii U is none of those things.
So i always get 2 consoles. I had a PS1 with my 64, a PS2 with my GCN, and a 360 with my Wii. I'll be getting a PS4 in 2014 to go with my Wii U. I have no confidence that Nintendo will be able to convince third parties to support Wii U the same way PS4 will be supported. Final Fantasy XV cant even be put on Wii U because of the power limitations. Kingdom Hearts 3 isnt coming either. Neither are any EA games including Star Wars Battlefront and Dragon Age 3. I doubt very much that Destiny will be on Wii U. Ubisoft's next gen games are mostly skipping Wii U as well.
So not only has Nintendo forced themselves into this situation, they're forcing us into it as well. Its why i truly hope they learn their lesson this time, and make a console next gen that gamers and devs actually want. I'm not impressed with Wii U's uniqueness. I just bought it for the same reason i always buy nintendo consoles: first party games. Mario. Smash Bros. Zelda. Metroid. Pikmin. Animal Crossing. Star Fox. Donkey Kong. Mario Kart. As long as those hit Wii U, i'll be okay with my purchase. But i will still have to get a PS4 for third party games, and its own exclusives. But mostly for FFXV, Destiny, KH3 and Battlefront. Because deep down we all know they wont be hitting Wii U anytime soon.
A modern day zelda game would be really cool, even though i dont really care for the realistic approach in games. I always thought a futuristic zelda game in space with a kind of star wars feel would be awesome.
Lets not forget that there's quite a bit of this game we havent seen. There's probably some cool stuff in it. But yes, i'm still disappointed we arent getting a true followup to mario 64 or the galaxy games. I'm not a fan of the New Mario games, and while I liked 3D Land, i think that style of level design should stick to portable mario. 3D mario games are supposed to be innovative and show off the hardware they are on, but this one just looks like they played it safe to make a quick buck. For a company that prides itself on 'making something unique,' it sure has been pumping out a lot of the same lately. Again, i'm sure 3D world will be fun, but i think most people wanted the innovative kind of fun, not the drawing from nostalgia kind.
Smash Bros and X were my favorites, with Sonic Lost World, Mario 3D World and Pokemon X/Y being distant runner ups. Mario 3D World is growing on me, but i still think it should've been a 3DS game. Definitely not what i really wanted as a follow up to the galaxy games, but it still looks fun.
I love the frog suit. Maybe some powerups from the galaxy games? Spring mario, cloud mario, rock mario, ice mario? Riding yoshi would also be a great thing to add. I'd like to see more new powerups, too, in this game other than just the cat suit.
If they had shown this, they'd have won E3. It would've been better than Donkey Kong and Art Academy by far. Glad to hear its progressing so quickly. Hope we can get it soon, maybe holiday 2014 or early 2015?
Nintendo was kidding themselves if they ever thought major western third parties would continue to support the Wii U once PS4 and Xbox One were released. Its about perception, and in this case the perception is true: Wii U isn't as powerful as PS4 and Xbox One. It doesn't have 8GB of RAM. And it isn't as easy to develop for because of the hardware. We can complain all we want that devs just need to be creative with it, but it doesnt matter. At the end of the day, Wii U is seen as weak tech and difficult to work with, and it doesn't help that its not selling units. Companies like Activision, EA, Bioware, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Square-Enix, Blizzard, Valve, and more are never going to take it seriously, even if Nintendo does ever manage to pick up the sales.
Nintendo has put themselves between a rock and a hard place, and as far as serious third party support is concerned, i dont think they'll recover this gen. Next gen, if they're smart enough to realize that they need to cater more to what people really want in a new console instead of 'making something unique' which really isn't all that unique, maybe third party devs will come back.
I love my Wii U, but it needs to be admitted that there are some significant problems with it. Its underpowered, hard to develop for, and is much too expensive for what you get for it. PS4 with 500GB for $400? Or Wii U with 32GB for $350. The choice is obviously PS4 in that case. Wii U needs to either upgrade to much more memory and throw in a pro controller into the deluxe model at the same price, or they need to cut the price by at least $50 because as it is right now, its not good value.
I bought my Wii U for the games... But it looks like just with Wii, Nintendo is the only one that will be making quality softwarw for it. And it all could've bern avoided if Nintendo had just better understood the market and what gamers want.
I have this on GCN. I really hope they add in the dungeons that were cut, otherwise i may skip this game. I rarely ever buy the same game twice unless the remake has some amazing extras or if its a great game and i've lost it or it broke somehow.
I'd have preferred Metroid or a new IP. At least if they were going with DK, i wish they'd have gone the DK64 route instead. There are too many sidescrolling platformers these days and not enough 3D platformers. I think tropical freeze will be good, but i dont know if i'll be getting it unless someone nice gets it for me for xmas.
At least the characters revealed so far are new with fresh movesets, and not clones of other characters (like falco, wolf, lucas, ganondorf, pichu, and toon link). I'd rather have wii fit trainer and the villager than that any day.
I'm disappointed personally. Nothing about this game is really grabbing me. It should be on the 3DS and just be called Super Mario 3D Land 2, because thats what it is. I know it will be fun, and i'll probably end up getting it, but i can tell by looking at the gameplay trailer that i will only like it on the same level i liked 3D Land, which is a 9/10 for me. Its not on the same level of innovative greatness as Mario 64 or the Galaxy games. But hey, 9/10 ain't bad. This just isn't the level of greatness i've come to expect from the 3D Mario games.
No way PS4 and Xbone sell for the wii u's price. The tech inside those machines costs at least $500, and there's no way ms and sony are going to take that much of a loss at launch. I guarantee they start at at least $400 if not $500-600.
I doubt this is the real list, but if it is, its making me glad to stay home instead of going to Best Buy. I dont think Super Luigi U will be one of the games. I think it will be the 3D Mario game instead, along with wind waker, pikmin 3 and wonderful 101. The mario game is the only reason i'd go to best buy. I know what wind waker plays like cause i have it on GCN. I will be playing my own copy of Pikmin 3 in less than 2 months. W101 looks good, but not good enough to drive 45 min and stand in line for. Mario is the only thing that'll get me out during E3 to do that.
I got this game for $.25 at a garage sale, just because my bro and i wanted to see how awful it was. I picked up a few other games there, too including F-Zero, Pokemon Snap, Pilotwings, and, best of all, Majora's Mask. I got all of em for less than $10. But yeah... Shaq Fu is easily one of the worst games i've ever played. Not on the level of Superman 64, but its close.
I'll probably pick this up. It'll be a good game to play while i have nothing else to play since Pikmin 3 won't be out til August 4. I can easily get addicted early on to AC, but almost always lose interest after 4-6 months. The first game on GCN i played for probably 2 years almost daily. Wild World and City Folk onky for about 6 months and 4 months respectively. Hopefully with all the new additions, new leaf can keep me coming back for at least a year.
Seriously? Spelunker and Yoshi are our VC offerings this week? How lame. I dont even think yoshi is worth .30. I had it on NES back in the day and even back then when i was 4 i thought it was garbage. It'd be nice if we could get at least one good VC game each week.
After the next Wii U Zelda is finished, they should give the next entry to Retro and let Aonuma work on something else like Kid Icarus or Luigi's Mansion or Star Fox. I really think it would benefit Nintendo if they let their empkoyees work on games they truly want to make rather than always making the same teams make the same games. The new Mario game is also being made by the same team that made the last 3 mario games... If i worked on the same games like that, i'd be incredibly bored after a while. Why not switch up the formula a bit, ninty? It could turn out great with people who havent worked on a Zelda game coming in with some really fresh ideas for a change.
If its $8 or less, i will probably end up picking it up at some point, but with all the VC games and upcoming Wii U summer/fall lineup, my gaming budget is starting to max out for this year. I've put aside cash for AC, Pikmin 3, Pokemon Y, Super Mario U and a couple other games i'll decide on after E3. Not a whole lot of wiggle room for a rerelease of an old 3DS eshop title, even if it is a great one. I'm sure i'll download it eventually, but it may not be til early 2014.
I want both, honestly. I love metroid and its been 3 years since other m came out. So whether its a 2D handheld entry in the series or a new game in the prime series, i just want more metroid. But a new IP would be sweet as well... If retro is ever truly going to replace Rare, they need to do their own thing too. Rare did great with nintendo franchises given to them like donkey kong and star fox, but where they really excelled was their own stuff like banjo, perfect dark and conker. So i do hope retro puts out something new and awesome to get people talking.
Pokemon is the sole reason i ever got a gameboy. And a gameboy advance. And a DS. Its also partially the reason i bought a 3DS, though mario 3d land, kid icarus and luigi's mansion 2 helped convince me when they were announced. I will always have to get nintendo handhelds, because nowhere else can i play pokemon, which is easily my favorite portable game series.
Oh no... We won't get another entry in the overdone, uncreative horror/zombie shooter genre. Cause you know, Call of Duty, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Left 4 Dead, ZombiU, Walking Dead, Dead Island, Dead Space, Silent Hill, etc arent enough already! Man, do game devs even try to come up with new ideas anymore?!
I'm in the process of moving to a new house next week, so most of my time will be spent packing and saying "see ya later" to friends i won't see for a while after i move. So not too much gaming will take place, but i may sneak in a little bit of Fire Emblem: Awakening or something if i can.
He must be using 360-only statistics here... Which is probably accurate. I never used BC on my 360... You know cause everything on the original xbox sucked except for the two halo games.
Almost everyone i know with a game console has used the backward compatability feature at least a few times. I use it a lot... In fact, if 3DS and Wii U weren't backward compatable, i likely wouldnt have got either at launch, since i traded in my DS and Wii to help pay for them, but kept the games. I still play pokemon heartgold and white on my 3DS, while on Wii U just today my wife and i fired it up to play Wii Fit Plus together, and over the last week i've played smash bros brawl and mario galaxy on it as well.
You're the one thats backwards, xbox. I've never come across a console as anti-consumer as you. Have fun coming in third this gen.
Nintendo has no reason to not go all out with tons of game announcements for later this year and the first half of next year. This may be their last chance to show people why Wii U matters before the new consoles release. If they somehow blow E3 for the third year in a row, Wii U may not even reach gamecube levels of sales. I really want to see Wii U succeed. So yes, show us 3D Mario, Mario Kart U, Pikmin 3, Smash Bros U, Wii Fit U, Yarn Yoshi, Wii Party U, Game & Wario, Wonderful 101, and Bayonetta 2... But we need more than that in my opinion. Whatever retro is working on should show, and some distant future titles like Fire Emblem x SMT and the new Xenoblade need to be shown as well. We need another surprise or two as well, big or small... New IP, new Star Fox, Gamecube and Dreamcast support on Wii U VC... Anything really... Just something cool and unexpected.
On a scale of 1 to 10, i'm at 10 just to see the new mario and smash bros games... If thats all they were showing, i'd be at a 10 anyway. Those two games along with pikmin 3 and the new zelda game they have mentioned is in early dev stages are my reasons for buying a Wii U.
I dont really care about EA itself, but they do own bioware and star wars now, and i like those. But EA's games they develop themselves are mostly garbage. And EA treats consumers like trash, too, so its gonna be really hard for me to bring myself to buy games like mass effect and star wars knowing EA profits from it, but if its a truly good game, i'll end up getting it at some point... Possibly used lol, just to piss EA off.
I watched all three of them get revealed now and can easily say xbox one was the worst. Theres just so much i hate about it and its features and very little i like. And i'm not anti-xbox. I owned both the original and the 360. But there are too many anticonsumerist features on xbox one, and theres no way i can afford all three consoles, so xbox has officially been crossed off my wishlist.
The PS4 reveal was the best. It focused on gaming, which is the most important thing to me, and it seems to offer every type of gamer something neat. My only hesitation on it is the price. I wont buy any system for more than $400, but i have a feeling the ps4 is going to start at at least $450 if not $500. If it does, i'll be waiting for a steep price drop like PS3 eventually got.
Wii U's event was somewhere in the middle of the other two. I didnt hate it, but nothing really got me pumped up. But i definitely saw the potential for really cool games on it, and i always know nintendo will be bringing mario, zelda, smash bros, metroid, etc. So i knew i'd get it eventually. I ended up getting a good deal on it from a friend who won one from a raffle at her job. She doesnt really play games, and knew i wanted it so she sold the deluxe model to me for $225. I figured that was a pretty good deal, so i went for it and dont regret it.
I think you expectations going into the directs have a big impact on whether or not you enjoy them. I liked this one because it was exactly what i expected, plus a surprise Sonic announcement. If you were expecting more than that, you were bound to be disappointed.
Mario, zelda and smash bros sell nintendo consoles. Not third party games. Those are still bought and played, but no one buys nintendo's consoles just to play call of duty or madden. They buy them for first party games. Nintendo needs to understand this, because the only way the install base will grow is if those games come out. And if the consumer base is big enough, EA and its ilk will come back and port games to the console. 3D mario, smash bros or zelda should ALWAYS be at launch. At least one of them, preferably two.
All of his comments make complete sense if you look at how EA views the business... He was basically saying "Hey nintendo, quit being creative and innovative, and start making reiterative sequels nonstop for systems that have lots of graphical power instead." Thats what EA does, so apparantly thats what everyone should do. Man EA just makes it harder and harder for me to not hate them every day. Its incredibly tragic that they own Star Wars, Bioware and NFL... But i'll just have to do without those til EA wisens up and starts treating us Wii U owners with the same respect they do with other console owners.
At the same time, he did make a valid point; many nintendo fans are guilty of only buying first party games on Wii U and 3DS. If this trend continues, it wont just be EA that does this... Ubisoft and 2K and others will jump ship too. At the end of the day, games are a business too, and companies arent just gonna put games on Wii U if they arent seeing profits. Thats stupid and we shouldnt expect it. So i guess what i'm saying is this: When a good game comes out for Wii U, BUY IT for Wii U, not PC or whatever. Games like Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed IV, Watch Dogs, Rayman Legends, Sonic Lost World, etc need to be purchased alongside first party stuff like Mario and Zelda. Otherwise, more third parties will pull an EA.
I have an iphone, but i never use it for games. I make calls, use the internet and take photos with it and stuff but most app games are garbage, and i dont really care for them. If nintendo came out with a phone and put out some miniaturized mario, zelda, pokemon and others, i'd consider it. I'd still much prefer sticking with games on 3DS or Wii U though.
It sounded to me like this is only one game in this exclusive partnership. Not sure if that only includes sonic or if other sega franchises will be included like monkey ball, phantasy star, shenmue, yakuza, etc.
Gamers these days need to be spoonfed everything. Whether its NSMBU's superguide or the straightline paths and arrows pointing where to go next in games like Halo and Tomb Raider, i fear gaming has lost a good amount of its challenge in trying to cater to a generation that wants everything now (make that yesterday).
Anyway, i'm having a blast replaying Super Metroid. I played almost an hour last night. Beat crocomire and got to grappling beam. I can't wait to fight phantoon and ridley again probably tonight!
Everything EA says concerning Wii U is a load of crap. I guarantee frostbite 3 can run easy on Wii U. It can run on 360 and PS3, so it should run easy on Wii U as well. There's something going on behind scenes that EA is pissed about (my guess is they wanted Origin integration on Wii U and nintendo said no at the last moment), and now EA is acting like an insane, jealous ex-girlfriend whose boyfriend broke up with her for another woman. I don't care that much really... I dont really like much of EA's stuff. My issue is that they own BioWare, who make Mass Effect, and now they own Star Wars games. I like Mass Effect and Star Wars, but unfortunately it seems like I'll be avoiding them even on PC until EA gets that stick out of their butt and treats nintendo with the same level of respect it does everyone else. They were already voted worst company... This isnt gonna help them.
Much better VC offering this week than the last couple weeks. Especially on Wii U. I'm really hoping N64, GBA and Genesis games start getting added soon, too. Also awesome would be Gamecube, and maybe even Saturn and Dreamcast support, though i'm starting to doubt we'll ever see any of that. Still, its good to see some quality games on the VC this week! Already downloaded Super Metroid. I may pick up Super Mario Bros 2 as well since its half off
I'm guessing this one is just gonna be about release dates and new info on previously announced games like Mario Golf: World Tour, The Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, etc. I wouldnt expect any new reveals with the upcoming E3 Directs in about 2-3 weeks. Still, i really hope W101 gets a release date and that we see a sweet new trailer for pikmin 3!
The 3DS is my favorite portable system I've ever owned. I don't know about best console ever... I'd have to give that to the SNES. As for what I'd like to see in the coming years for the console... Another Super Mario 3D Land-type game would be awesome, maybe with more power-ups this time around. I'd also really like to see a new entry in the Golden Sun series. Oh, and a 2.5D Metroid game in the style of Super Metroid/Metroid Fusion would be awesome as well.
Given the fact that nintendo develops games based on their hardware capabilities and innovative aspects that they find interesting, i don't see them going multiplatform any time soon. Plus if they put their major first party games on other consoles, it would give people even less reason to buy a Wii U or 3DS. First party games are many people's only reason for buying nintendo hardware. At the current time, it makes more sense to keep first party games exclusive.
I was never going to play this series again after City Folk... It seemed like it was stuck and City Folk had very little to offer in terms of new features compared to the previous games. I barely even played it because i also had Wild World, which while basically the same game, was portable and more convenient to play. New Leaf, though, has got my attention... The mayor feature looks like the addition i've always wanted, and the level of house/town/character customization is deeper than ever before. Animal Crossing is great on handhelds, too, and i love my 3DS, and always have it with me, so i can see myself playing this in small chunks throughout the day while i have downtime.
Super Mario Bros 2 is the one mario game i probably won't download. I don't hate it like some people do, i think it's an okay game... But it doesn't live up to the rest of the series' high standards, and i always felt the gameplay was too slow. I may download it if it ever becomes a club nintendo reward, but i'm not paying a full $5 for it. I really wish they'd put Super Mario Bros 3 out on either Wii U or 3DS. It's my personal favorite 2D Mario game.
@Ricube I wasn't trying to bash wii fit/sports at all. I was just saying that it seems the majority of those who purchase wii fit arent the type to enjoy Zelda and Metroid games, which is true considering the wide gap in sales between the three series on Wii. I think nintendo should definitely continue making Wii Fit games for the people that want it, but i think the core gaming community wants a deeper, more exciting game to really show them why they should be interested in Wii U. Wii Fit may end up moving consoles when it comes to casual gamers, but most of the people who are going to be spending a lot of cash on several games per year are the core gamers that dont care about fitness games. I just think nintendo needs to flex its creative muscles and give us a new IP to show people "Why Wii U.". They really havent come up with a new core gaming type IP since... What was it? Pikmin on Gamecube in 2001? Thats a really long time. I know nintendo likes to reinvent its franchises a lot (Kid Icarus Uprising, Metroid Prime) but it'd be cool to see something fresh.
@Bass_X0 DLC is not the price to pay for better graphics... it is the price we have to pay now that it has become an option for devs since gaming has gone online. I'm not saying online gaming is a bad thing, but that there have been negatives brought alongside the positive aspects of it. If gaming had stayed offline, yet still had the HD level graphics available today, we wouldn't be seeing DLC... but we would still have the same graphical capabilities we have now. So that argument can't be made. The fact remains that most of what is included in DLC could have easily been put in the original game, but it is more profitable for devs to release it for extra costs to gamers. Do I want Street Fighter that has 10 characters, with 6 extra that I have to pay another $15 for on top of the $60 I just paid for the original game? Or do I just want Capcom to give me the full roster of 16 characters for the $60 I paid like they should and used to do before DLC was an issue? I don't mind DLC if it is stuff like alternative costumes for characters or other trivial things... but playable characters, story content, and other important things should be included in the game from the beginning.
And no, I wouldn't mind at all of we exchanged today's graphical power for the 16-bit or 32-bit eras, as long as devs were still making fun games for consoles like they used to, and still do today. One of the games I'm most excited about this year is Shovel Knight, which is modeled after NES-era games, but the gameplay looks incredible. Graphical power has almost zero meaning to me anymore. I just want to play games that are fun. If they have 8-bit graphics, or are incredibly realistic HD graphics, I don't care. Either way that's not excuse to charge gamers extra for content that should've been included in the original game.
I'd love to see nintendo come up with a brand new AAA type IP. They really haven't done anything like that since the early Gamecube years. Sure Wii Sports/Fit sold lots of units, but those werent really the IPs that most gamers were looking for. Those sold to people who, in all likelihood, arent really going to be interested in buying other games like Metroid or Star Fox or Zelda. Nintendo could use something new, innovative and appealing to the gaming community to show at E3 that will really get people excited. Yeah, mario, zelda and smash bros will do that too, but its been awhile since we saw something fresh come from nintendo. I love new Marios and Pikmins as much as anyone, but I wanna see something that hasnt been done before, too. It doesnt have to be a mature title, either, it just has to be really exciting and get people talking about Wii U.
So what? Gamecube and Wii didn't have GTA either and it wasnt the end of the world. Nintendo still made profits. For me personally, i've never liked GTA anyway, so no big deal. I always found the story and gameplay to fall flat, and the only thing i liked was stealing cool cars/helicopters and wrecking them into stuff. Outside of that, i found the missions and stuff frustrating and bland. Oh and its treatment of female characters is pretty degrading as well, and i'm not just talking about the prostitution either. Even the women that arent whores are treated similarly.

Re: Review: Mutant Mudds Deluxe (Wii U eShop)
Meh... I figured this version wouldnt be as good, since the game was built for the 3DS. I'll save my eshop money for Shovel Knight.

A modern day zelda game would be really cool, even though i dont really care for the realistic approach in games. I always thought a futuristic zelda game in space with a kind of star wars feel would be awesome.

Re: First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World
I'm still hoping that in a couple years, we'll get the mario 64/sunshine/galaxy style Mario game that we all really wanted.
That said, i will enjoy this game with my family in the meantime and have a blast doing so. I cant wait to play it this xmas.
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th June (North America)
Nothing for Wii U VC? Thats disappointing.
Re: Poll: Which Wii U E3 Game Has Impressed You the Most?
Smash Bros and X were my favorites, with Sonic Lost World, Mario 3D World and Pokemon X/Y being distant runner ups. Mario 3D World is growing on me, but i still think it should've been a 3DS game. Definitely not what i really wanted as a follow up to the galaxy games, but it still looks fun.
Re: Frog Suit Confirmed For Super Mario 3D World
I love the frog suit. Maybe some powerups from the galaxy games? Spring mario, cloud mario, rock mario, ice mario? Riding yoshi would also be a great thing to add. I'd like to see more new powerups, too, in this game other than just the cat suit.
Re: Miyamoto: Zelda Wii U Was Considered For Display At This Year's E3
If they had shown this, they'd have won E3. It would've been better than Donkey Kong and Art Academy by far. Glad to hear its progressing so quickly. Hope we can get it soon, maybe holiday 2014 or early 2015?
Re: Ubisoft Scaling Back Support For Wii U, Expects Price Cut To Bolster Sales
Re: Eiji Aonuma Shares Wind Waker HD Thoughts
I have this on GCN. I really hope they add in the dungeons that were cut, otherwise i may skip this game. I rarely ever buy the same game twice unless the remake has some amazing extras or if its a great game and i've lost it or it broke somehow.
Re: Retro Chose Donkey Kong Over Metroid as Its First Wii U Title
I'd have preferred Metroid or a new IP. At least if they were going with DK, i wish they'd have gone the DK64 route instead. There are too many sidescrolling platformers these days and not enough 3D platformers. I think tropical freeze will be good, but i dont know if i'll be getting it unless someone nice gets it for me for xmas.
Re: Masahiro Sakurai Demonstrates Super Smash Bros. in Developer Video
At least the characters revealed so far are new with fresh movesets, and not clones of other characters (like falco, wolf, lucas, ganondorf, pichu, and toon link). I'd rather have wii fit trainer and the villager than that any day.
Re: Super Mario 3D World Coming To Wii U This December
I'm disappointed personally. Nothing about this game is really grabbing me. It should be on the 3DS and just be called Super Mario 3D Land 2, because thats what it is. I know it will be fun, and i'll probably end up getting it, but i can tell by looking at the gameplay trailer that i will only like it on the same level i liked 3D Land, which is a 9/10 for me. Its not on the same level of innovative greatness as Mario 64 or the Galaxy games. But hey, 9/10 ain't bad. This just isn't the level of greatness i've come to expect from the 3D Mario games.
Re: Talking Point: Looking Ahead to Nintendo's E3
No way PS4 and Xbone sell for the wii u's price. The tech inside those machines costs at least $500, and there's no way ms and sony are going to take that much of a loss at launch. I guarantee they start at at least $400 if not $500-600.
Re: Rumour: Best Buy's Wii U E3 Demo List Revealed
Re: Pokémon X & Y Gearing Up the Hype Train for Next Week
I wanna know what the new pokemon type is and what its strengths/weaknesses are. I just hope it doesnt throw the game balance off.
Re: Don't Look Now, But There Could Be A New Shaq Fu Game Inbound
I got this game for $.25 at a garage sale, just because my bro and i wanted to see how awful it was. I picked up a few other games there, too including F-Zero, Pokemon Snap, Pilotwings, and, best of all, Majora's Mask. I got all of em for less than $10. But yeah... Shaq Fu is easily one of the worst games i've ever played. Not on the level of Superman 64, but its close.
Re: Review: Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
I'll probably pick this up. It'll be a good game to play while i have nothing else to play since Pikmin 3 won't be out til August 4. I can easily get addicted early on to AC, but almost always lose interest after 4-6 months. The first game on GCN i played for probably 2 years almost daily. Wild World and City Folk onky for about 6 months and 4 months respectively. Hopefully with all the new additions, new leaf can keep me coming back for at least a year.
Re: Nintendo Download: 6th June (North America)
Seriously? Spelunker and Yoshi are our VC offerings this week? How lame. I dont even think yoshi is worth .30. I had it on NES back in the day and even back then when i was 4 i thought it was garbage. It'd be nice if we could get at least one good VC game each week.
Re: Aonuma: I Want To Work On Things Other Than Zelda
Re: Mutant Mudds Deluxe Confirmed for 13th June in North America
If its $8 or less, i will probably end up picking it up at some point, but with all the VC games and upcoming Wii U summer/fall lineup, my gaming budget is starting to max out for this year. I've put aside cash for AC, Pikmin 3, Pokemon Y, Super Mario U and a couple other games i'll decide on after E3. Not a whole lot of wiggle room for a rerelease of an old 3DS eshop title, even if it is a great one. I'm sure i'll download it eventually, but it may not be til early 2014.
Re: Video: A Young Person Plays Super Metroid
That video was hilarious. I love satire.
Re: Rumour: Retro's Wii U Title Is An Entirely New IP
I want both, honestly. I love metroid and its been 3 years since other m came out. So whether its a 2D handheld entry in the series or a new game in the prime series, i just want more metroid. But a new IP would be sweet as well... If retro is ever truly going to replace Rare, they need to do their own thing too. Rare did great with nintendo franchises given to them like donkey kong and star fox, but where they really excelled was their own stuff like banjo, perfect dark and conker. So i do hope retro puts out something new and awesome to get people talking.
Re: Donkey Kong 64 Required Expansion Pak to Prevent Game-Breaking Bug
Man i really want a sequel to DK64. 3D platformers are my favorite, but no one makes them anymore outside the mario games...
Re: Feature: A Brief History of Pokémon - Part One
Pokemon is the sole reason i ever got a gameboy. And a gameboy advance. And a DS. Its also partially the reason i bought a 3DS, though mario 3d land, kid icarus and luigi's mansion 2 helped convince me when they were announced. I will always have to get nintendo handhelds, because nowhere else can i play pokemon, which is easily my favorite portable game series.
Re: Dying Light Set To Skip Wii U
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Thirteen
I'm in the process of moving to a new house next week, so most of my time will be spent packing and saying "see ya later" to friends i won't see for a while after i move. So not too much gaming will take place, but i may sneak in a little bit of Fire Emblem: Awakening or something if i can.
Re: Microsoft: If You're Backwards Compatible, You're Really Backwards
He must be using 360-only statistics here... Which is probably accurate. I never used BC on my 360... You know cause everything on the original xbox sucked except for the two halo games.
Re: Microsoft: If You're Backwards Compatible, You're Really Backwards
Re: E3 Nintendo Direct Date and Time Confirmed
Re: Rewind, EA Is In Fact Developing Games For The Wii U
I dont really care about EA itself, but they do own bioware and star wars now, and i like those. But EA's games they develop themselves are mostly garbage. And EA treats consumers like trash, too, so its gonna be really hard for me to bring myself to buy games like mass effect and star wars knowing EA profits from it, but if its a truly good game, i'll end up getting it at some point... Possibly used lol, just to piss EA off.
Re: Poll: Do You Follow and Watch Rival Console Reveals?
Re: Reaction: Our Thoughts on Nintendo Direct - 17th May
I think you expectations going into the directs have a big impact on whether or not you enjoy them. I liked this one because it was exactly what i expected, plus a surprise Sonic announcement. If you were expecting more than that, you were bound to be disappointed.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Mixed Week With Wii U Third-Party Support
Mario, zelda and smash bros sell nintendo consoles. Not third party games. Those are still bought and played, but no one buys nintendo's consoles just to play call of duty or madden. They buy them for first party games. Nintendo needs to understand this, because the only way the install base will grow is if those games come out. And if the consumer base is big enough, EA and its ilk will come back and port games to the console. 3D mario, smash bros or zelda should ALWAYS be at launch. At least one of them, preferably two.
Re: Senior EA Employee Caught Out Criticising Wii U On Twitter
Re: Tech Site T3 Predicts What The Nintendo Smartphone Would Look Like
I have an iphone, but i never use it for games.
Re: New Sonic Title, Lost World, Will be Exclusive to Wii U and 3DS
It sounded to me like this is only one game in this exclusive partnership. Not sure if that only includes sonic or if other sega franchises will be included like monkey ball, phantasy star, shenmue, yakuza, etc.
Re: Miiverse: Super Metroid - Too Taxing For Today's Gamers?
Gamers these days need to be spoonfed everything. Whether its NSMBU's superguide or the straightline paths and arrows pointing where to go next in games like Halo and Tomb Raider, i fear gaming has lost a good amount of its challenge in trying to cater to a generation that wants everything now (make that yesterday).
Anyway, i'm having a blast replaying Super Metroid. I played almost an hour last night. Beat crocomire and got to grappling beam. I can't wait to fight phantoon and ridley again probably tonight!
Re: EA Currently Has No Games In Development For The Wii U
Re: Nintendo Download: 16th May (North America)
Much better VC offering this week than the last couple weeks. Especially on Wii U. I'm really hoping N64, GBA and Genesis games start getting added soon, too. Also awesome would be Gamecube, and maybe even Saturn and Dreamcast support, though i'm starting to doubt we'll ever see any of that. Still, its good to see some quality games on the VC this week! Already downloaded Super Metroid. I may pick up Super Mario Bros 2 as well since its half off
Re: Nintendo Direct Confirmed For 17th May, Covering Summer Titles on Wii U and 3DS
Re: Feature: 3DS - A Report Card Ahead of Its Biggest Year
The 3DS is my favorite portable system I've ever owned.
Re: Peter Molyneux: If I were Nintendo, I'd Put Mario On The iPad
Given the fact that nintendo develops games based on their hardware capabilities and innovative aspects that they find interesting, i don't see them going multiplatform any time soon. Plus if they put their major first party games on other consoles, it would give people even less reason to buy a Wii U or 3DS. First party games are many people's only reason for buying nintendo hardware. At the current time, it makes more sense to keep first party games exclusive.
Re: Feature: The Neutered Malevolence of Animal Crossing: New Leaf
I was never going to play this series again after City Folk... It seemed like it was stuck and City Folk had very little to offer in terms of new features compared to the previous games. I barely even played it because i also had Wild World, which while basically the same game, was portable and more convenient to play. New Leaf, though, has got my attention... The mayor feature looks like the addition i've always wanted, and the level of house/town/character customization is deeper than ever before. Animal Crossing is great on handhelds, too, and i love my 3DS, and always have it with me, so i can see myself playing this in small chunks throughout the day while i have downtime.
Re: Super Mario Bros. 2 Hitting The North American Wii U Virtual Console Next Week
Re: Dylan Cuthbert of Q-Games - Nintendo and Wii U Need a "New Super IP"
Re: Talking Point: DLC's Increasingly Important Role for Nintendo
Re: Dylan Cuthbert of Q-Games - Nintendo and Wii U Need a "New Super IP"
Re: Rumour: Rockstar Won't Be Bringing WWE Or Grand Theft Auto To The Wii U
