Re: Link's Awakening Turns 20 Years Old

Zeldalover

In my own personal opinion, not even most of the great 3D Zeldas can top this. It has a great sense of balance for dungeons and exploration. The overworld is by far... the best in the entire franchise. Individual dungeon themes, the legendary 'trading sequence', the seashell collectibles scattered throughout the land of Koholint. I can also point out that the game was the first to introduce unique sub-quests in the form of mini-dungeons (Kanalet Castle being the finest example). I also liked the huge amount of rupee treasure chests that can be found in the caverns of each area. A masterpiece of game design and music. It never fails to impress. Even after 20 years.

I would call for Ocarina of Time 3D (#1), Mario Kart 7 (#2) and Kid Icarus: Uprising (close 3rd). Super Mario 3D Land lasted for no longer than 30 hours and didn't have that much appeal.

Link's Awakening DX (GBC) on the 3DS Virtual Console has to be the best 6 bucks spent in an entire lifetime.

This is the most underrated Mario I've seen. What a platformer! It is a true classic from the 8-bit era and a true example for art style in video game graphics. Just look at those imaginative backgrounds and tell me you don't feel enchanted.

Re: Konami: We Had To Take Risks With Castlevania To Prevent It Becoming Like Mega Man

Rondo of Blood is the best. I think the level of difficulty is just perfect for a Traditionalvania game. And it has some of the most amazing and unique environments out of the entire franchise. Plus the CD-quality soundtrack gives you goosebumps while playing. My 2nd favorite is Symphony of the Night. Never played any of the GBA or DS titles, so I wouldn't know if they're close to SotN in terms of originality in gameplay and level design.

The one that stands out most for innovation would be Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (prequel to the first, branching paths, multiple characters - each with their own unique abilities).

@Fusion14 We may both agree that from a technical standpoint (given the hardware level and massive amount of features when compared to the Wii), the Wii is superior (and it has the Virtual Console emulating service for titles of past generations like the SNES with suspend states and stuff). But for a physical (cartridge stuffed) library, it has no competition (considering the amount of original titles it had and the much more inventive storyline concepts, character development).

Re: A New Yoshi's Island Title is Coming to 3DS

The SNES game is my 3rd favorite 2d side-scrolling platformer of all-time right after SMB3 and Super Metroid. My dad bought it from a store in Chicago, back in the day in '96. : ) Today, you can only wish for such innovation and art style in video game graphics! It could never be surpassed..

Re: Zelda Game Boy Color Oracle Duo Heading To Western 3DS eShops Before Summer

Both games are unique in their own way. Seasons was beautiful with it's art style and the ability to change seasons. Ages had superior dungeons and a good storyline (although it gave me a hard time). I remember that I've played (and beaten) both back in the Summer of 2002, when a friend of mine (that had a GBA) gave me both cartridges to play for the weekends. They just might be the most memorable Zeldas. They were my 2nd and 3rd Zelda games), respectively (OoT was my first in '99). After 'Ages', I bought a second-hand Link's Awakening DX cartridge for my Game Boy Color and I found it to be the most enchanting experience I've ever had playing a game. It sinks you deep into it's atmosphere with such astonishing detail that you literally forget you're playing a game. 'Ages' and 'Seasons' were greatly inspired by this game and turned out to be exceptionally good on their own.

And what a Zelda game it was..
The most innovative and revolutionary Zelda title to date!

I doubt Nintendo will ever be this good again.
I've never experienced anything as atmospheric as Super Metroid till this very day. My third favorite would be Yoshi's Island, and that game had the most unique graphical art style for a 2d platformer. The SNES' library shines with great games like Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2, Super Mario Kart and more...

Re: The Legend of Zelda Oracle Titles Coming to Japanese 3DS Virtual Console

Zeldalover

I recall completing both games back in 2002 on a GameBoy Advance I temporarily had been given. I liked Ages a tad bit more because it was more puzzle-oriented and it gave me a hard time. Seasons had the better mechanic (considering that Time Travel was already implemented before Ages in OoT), graphical art style, overworld. Ages shined with a much greater storyline, dungeon design, items. Loved the music in both games.

Had never played this one before. I was amazed at how good the level design is for it's time. My score would be something in between an 8 and a 9. I need to spend more time playing it in order to be more conclusive, but it's more likely to be a 8/10. And the music leaves a lasting impression on me. It's absolutely one of the greatest platformers of all-time, that's for sure!

Re: File Sizes Revealed For 3DS eShop Retail Downloads

Zeldalover

Hey everyone!
I'm from Europe and I downloaded Mario Kart 7 two weeks ago, but the file size of the game folder on the SD card says 638 megabytes (I am using an SD card reader on my PC).
Doesn't that sound too low? Just wanted to know if everything is normal with my game download.
Btw, I bought a 16 gigabyte SDHC card (Class 10) which should be just fine considering that the games don't take up too much space at all.
