@Masurao thanks for this. I’ll give it another go, and see if I get anywhere, possibly with a little more patience!
I also need to try and overcome my sense of vertigo. Watching that video even made me a little tense, hanging over the bamboo and thinking one wrong and he will fall into oblivion has me tending up. I think I need to repeat to myself ‘it’s only a game’. 😂
I can understand those criticising the art style and animation, but for me it immediately evokes the feelings I had sitting down and watching cartoons from the late 80’s, with the grainy filter applied deliberately adding to this. This all totally matches up with the Ridiculousness of the concept. I really want this to be good!
Pretty harsh review on here for this I feel. Certainly more of a 6 for me. I agree with the sentiment earlier on in the review, that is true with horror in general in film, or games, that it’s a love it or loathe it experience.
It is generic and competent, and if you’re looking for a quick horror fix, it’s probably worth taking a chance for the low price. It’s not going to blow you away, but manage your expectations and as a horror fan, you’re likely going to enjoy it.
@fluggy I never suggested it was great. Just not universally panned as you suggested.
I’ve now played, and would score around a 6. It’s a fairly okay horror adventure, which these days tend to polarise opinion. Remember, maiden of black water on Wii U had one of the biggest range of scores I’d seen in a long time (a 7 on here if I remember correctly, and a rare ‘Avoid’ on Eurogamer, sister site to Nintendolife)
Remember, Nintendolife is one opinion, not the de-facto opinion. Meta-critic wise this still sits on mixed, and the review summary on here confirm a exactly what is suggested, if you like this kind of game, there is likely something there for you. I’d say 4/10 is harsh, 4 suggests something really close to terrible, when really it’s closer to competent and generic, and not bad for what it is.
The name of this rings a bell, but watching the trailer, this is the first time I Denver seeing any gameplay. Looks fantastic and I can’t wait to try it out now. My wallet is suffering!
I’ve not tried this, but I feel how the reviewer feels about this when I play Snakepasss.
That’s a game I really want to like, but even after a few hours of play, I’ve never really gelled with the controls, and when I manage to do something right climbing a structure, it feels like I succeeded by chance. I always feel exhausted and relieved when a stage is over. I love it when developers try something new and original, but I imagine this would frustrate me even more than Snakepass, but I’m sure for those who gel with it, this is great game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Exactly my point, and it’s there in the statement, YOU couldn’t, but many people, including myself, own the console precisely because of the portability. I’m afraid without it, the switch would have just become a Wii U 2, excellent games, but low install base, and lack of developer support.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I don’t think by any means, ‘The majority’ of over 200 pieces of software available on switch is available on Wii U. You are welcome to count though. And once you’ve counted those, could you also kindly advise us just how many of these titles I can play portably (not including the short distance the wii u spans, that doesn’t even reach the toilet in my one bedroom flat). Hopefully that will provide a bit of balance to you comment which I suspect will read ‘Like the MINORITY of software on switch, I already own it both physically and digitally and physically on the Wii U. The fact that is portable is a bonus for gamers other than myself, who struggle to get in gaming time on the big TV, or even at home as they spend a lot of time commuting or working away from home. And kudos to the developers for making these games available to the MAJORITY of people who did not buy a Wii U’. Hopefully I’ve saved you the effort, and you can copy and paste a more balanced comment for a change.
Pre-order cancelled. I loved this game on 360, and was looking forward to enjoying on switch, but it’ll have to wait now until I’ve upgraded my sd card and it goes on sale digital (may as well download the whole thing than spend time switching cartridges if only half the game is going to be on there anyway).
Absolutely fantastic game. Looks stunning, screenshots don’t do it justice, the amount of effort in the animation really made the game for me.
Those complaining there is too much talking: the plot and characters are what elevated this to near perfect for me, it’s actually really touching and quite emotional at times. It’s more of a metroidvania than a side scroller, although it’s more clearly broken into stages at times. Semi-open world would best describe it.
@fluggy not ‘universally panned’ but certainly not acclaimed either. Looks decidedly average, but for someone who enjoys horror games it probably looks like it would get a pass if you were to limit your expectations. Plus it’s fairly cheap.
I only play in portable mode. Sometimes I forget it even docks. It's just so much more convenient. I travel a lot for work, so it's great for train journeys (normally 2-3 hours), and my anker power bank was less than £20 and more than doubles the battery life.
Also, if you're living with someone, the portability is just much more considerate than hogging the TV
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it most definitely isn't a short game, I received yesterday and have played a good 15 hours and I'm only about halfway done, with loads of bonus content to work on, and worlds need to be revisited with new skills. Difficulty is ramping up nicely as well, so I suspect it's easy going to be 25-30 hours for me, which is not a short game by any means.
I see a lot of people complaining about length. Not quite sure where this info is coming from?
One prieview I read mentioned a section three quarters through the game being about 15-20 hours in, which means the game should be aortic 20-25 hours, which is more than enough for me, as these days I struggle to sink close to what I used to into something. 15-20 hours is the sweet spot for me these days.

Re: CIRCLE Entertainment and Flyhigh Works Confirm Impressive Line-Up of Switch Titles
Teslagrad on switch. Great game, just a shame the sort of sequel didn't expand upon and refine the original formula.

and the quote makes whoever it is look extremely petulant

Might want to change the tagline. To me it looks as though you are quoting nicalis?
