@erv Really? I've been seeing it's a must have. Nintendolife said 2D games are difficult to play with the joycons. I've seen many hands on impressions that said pro controller is the way to go with Zelda, Splatoon etc.
Switch is going to be flooded with 2D games. And you're forced to buy a pro controller to play them.
Nintendo needs to show us the must have game that uses this HD rumble technology.
@BertoFlyingFox I keep seeing many here saying they will buy Zelda for WiiU. Some IGN editors said they are going to buy it on WiiU after playing both. I didn't say it won't sell on Switch. It will sell an easy million quickly. I'm just saying people are more likely to wait to buy Switch since many Nintendo fans already have WiiU and they already own MK8. Games due get discounted quicker on PS4 and XboxOne but mostly due to very high competition. Most games get a December discount for the holidays too.
@BertoFlyingFox killzone sold a couple million copies on a brand new system. It also had pretty good reviews. Yeah some of those titles were on old systems. But there was no comparison on how they looked on new systems. Zelda is a WiiU game. I'm not saying any system has great titles at launch. Switch has a port of a WiiU game. Nintendo can keep their prices high because that's all somebody can buy for their system. It's buy Nintendo made games or play nothing.
@River3636 Launch lineup is weak period. I have a job, social life and I'm betting I can bench more than you. It will take me longer to beat Zelda than most. Launch lineup is still weak.
@WKE I think their point is valid. If others don't like Switch, we have another WiiU. Short life cycle with droughts in between Nintendo's great games.
I preordered two Switch's. One for me...one for my friend's kids. But I'm cancelling the one for my friend's kids. They love mario kart, mario, wiisports, donkey kong, mario party games etc. There's nothing in the launch for them. They already have MK8. The first game they'd like arrives in December.
@BertoFlyingFox The PS4 launched with alot of 3rd party support. There were your online shooters (COD and BF), sports titles, racing titles, lego superhero game, Assassin's Creed etc etc. Resogun (a free game) is a better game than anything not named Zelda in Switch's launch. PS4 also offered the promise of the most powerful console available with a ton of games on the way. 3rd parties for Nintendo say "maybe in the future". That maybe means no original titles for a couple of years...and maybe a small number of (inferior) ports. Switch is also launching against two hugely successful and more powerful systems with huge libraries of great games. PS4 and XboxOne had to win over gamers with who had the more promising future.
Switch is launching against two very successful consoles with years left in their cycles. All these 3rd parties are considering Switch. That's great... but an original title would be years away if it was started now. That leaves us with inferior ports. PS4 and XboxOne launched with many 3rd party titles on the way. The Switch is launching with maybes.
The games are the problem. If you have a WiiU, they really haven't given you a reason to buy the Switch.....unless you want to play WiiU games on the go.
@datamonkey I'm ok with that but those can't be considered major releases for Switch. The perception would be Switch is just another WiiU you can take out of your house (you could already play these games handheld in your home). Paying the same price for MK8 is really gouging the fans (if it indeed launches at this price). While I'd like to have it on Switch, I'm not paying full price based on principle.
The Wii was all over the news. Nursing homes were using them. People were throwing controllers through their TV screen. People were getting their grandmas to play. Some people are going to come home with the Switch and not have much to play...especially if they don't care about Zelda. The lineup is weak for the average gamer...and it won't get much better this year unless you are a Nintendo fan.
Where is the game that will sell that many consoles? WiiSports sold the Wii. I haven't seen anything in the first year that showcases the new controllers in anything other than gimmicky ways. There are things people will play once or twice...but there' s no Wii Bowling. Zelda is a big title for gamers...but how many will stick with the WiiU version?
@idrawrobots I have both and I agree that Xbox Live is more stable. Playstation seems more vulnerable to attacks and stays down longer. However, Playstation's is still very good for the most part. Party chat is great.
@duffmmann Any confusion is because of Nintendo's poor communication. They are only talking about this app. Just because you can connect those things, doesn't mean they will be used in chat. I really hope so though.
@UmbreonsPapa So you work all day...come home and want to play online. Your phone probably isn't going to have much of a charge, so you'll have to wait while it charges. To me, this whole conversation is ridiculous. Whether you have a smart phone or not.....how much battery you have.....using your minutes vs wifi.....none of it should be happening. You should not have to use your phone to chat online.
@OzHuski
I'd never use the voice msgs. If I can't type, I'd just talk into the phone and have it turn it to text. But that's just preference, so it's good for you...useless to me.
It's cheaper for Nintendo to put the chat burden on your phone than to have it in their system. The power of the Switch is a result of cutting costs.
@OzHuski Yes I use the PS one often. It shows me who is online. Alerting people online is something PS and Xbox used to do automatically, but it gets really annoying. I think you can still do that, but it's not the default because nobody liked it.
You can't send voice msgs...but not sure why you would? And I don't think i'd ever join a chat if I'm not playing the game.
Nintendo isn't doing this for any other reason than to cut corners and costs.
@OzHuski PS4 and XboxOne already do this. There's the main PlayStation app which you can add friends, buy games, etc etc. Then PS Messages where you can msg your friends, setup game times etc.
@Ledgendt I'm not sure about any of those. PS4 and XboxOne both have apps where you can do a lot of that (without turning on your console). I can't imagine anybody who has used the PS4 chat system could think what Nintendo is doing is better.
@peeks Which is one reason I wish Nintendo would just make handheld hardware and make games for PS4 and XboxOne. I know it's a very unpopular opinion for Nintendo fans. But Nintendo could use more advance hardware. As great as Zelda looks, it looks dated compared to Zero Dawn. They could focus resources on what they do best.....games.
@peeks
I get both sides. The only way to make a company change is to vote with your wallet. There's really no reason for me to buy a Switch right now.....I have a WiiU and the flagship Switch title...and really only title worth full price....is a WiiU game. But here I am...buying a Switch....$70 pro controller (yet I will have these expensive gimmicky controllers that come with it that I don't need right now).
But I love Nintendo...and when they make one of their great games, there's nothing like it. Unfortunately for me, they don't seem to make the games I want as often anymore.
@Kroko Because nobody wants to run down their phone battery for something that should be included in the system. When you see how great PS and Xbox have incorporated chat, you realize how far behind Nintendo is. You shouldn't have to tie up your phone to play a video game either.
I keep hearing the comment about not wanting to hear strangers yell this or that. I use PS chat all the time...and I only talk to people I want to...and I only hear people I want to.
Of course....alot of this online talk is sort of a waste. Nintendo isn't offering a compelling game to play online (like a Destiny etc).
@8-Bit_Link By owning each system, I'm able to buy the best games for each. Somebody who just buys Switch will buy Zelda and maybe a couple other launch titles. But for me, I'll buy Zelda and Zero Dawn for PS4. I'd suggest that instead of buying some average games for Switch, save up and buy another console. And you are right......time is very valuable. It takes a really good game to make me spend time on it.
@8itmap_k1d I'd save your money. I know it's hard to resist Mario, but the game is way too short and it's not that interesting to play. Replay value is a placing coins in harder to reach areas. And my friends in the UK....at least you don't have Trump.
@Andrzej777 I agree about the hidden costs. Controllers are ridiculous considering Nintendo hasn't made a game using this tech other than in a gimmicky way. Most will want a pro controller. A stand. Carrying case. Memory. Etc etc.

Surprised they didn't include a d-pad. Don't really want to haul around pro controller when portable.
