I'm really tired of feeding the trolls here. I'm checking out of this. Really, the only victims here are the people so closed-minded and affected by bias that they are incapable of enjoying all of the fantastic games that the Wii U has provided them with. Your loss, friends.
Again, bias. Extreme bias. Just like a lot of people. Nintendo just can't do right.
What is there to entice people to buy a PS4? What is there to entice people to buy an XboxOne? What is so different about their lineup of games? You've been conveniently ignoring this question all along. If Nintendo's "weak" library of "unimaginative rehashes" isn't good, then what do the other consoles have to offer?
"yeah MK8 is a different experience, it has less content and is less creative than other kart racers(again sonic all-stars for example)"
Direct quote there, guy.
You look at a game like NSMBU and think of it as "wallowing in the past" and a simple rehash. That's your problem. And it shows your extreme bias. It's the tried-and-true formula of the main Mario series. Why would you reinvent the wheel each time when you have a winning formula and all the fans want is the same perfection, but expanded upon? They try new things and have proven that with the Super Mario Galaxy series. And then they also produce traditional Mario games that are just as good.
Your opinion is very much like the same numbskull opinions that say Super Mario Galaxy 2 is "just a level pack". Again, why reinvent the wheel? As a fan of these games, I am completely fine with getting a game that is similar to the first, but introduces a few new elements and a whole ton of all new levels to complete the experience.
Perhaps you should take the fight to the Call of Duty series. Same mechanics, same settings, same plotlines, only slight variations. And there are like 20 of them. Or the Forza series. Or every baseball game that has come out since the beginning of video games. Or basketball. Or Halo, for that matter! What do any of these games do that their predecessor did not?
NSMBU - 2 new playable characters with different play-styles, new powers, new level concepts, building upon the previous game because it's a SEQUEL
3D World - 4 playable characters with different play-styles, new powers, 3D/2D hybrid gameplay, new level concepts, 4 player simultaneous gameplay
Tropical Freeze - 2 new playable characters with different play-styles, new level concepts, building upon the previous game because it's a SEQUEL
Smash Bros - a ton of new characters each with their own play-styles, new levels, new powers, new modes, adjustments to the core gameplay, online multiplayer, 8 player mode, building upon the previous game because it's a SEQUEL
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse - new levels, new characters, new powers, adjustments to the core gameplay, new level concepts, building upon the previous game because it's a SEQUEL
It's also funny that you would ever cite Mario Kart 8 as being "less creative than the other cart racers", when Mario Kart created the concept of a cart racer!
If we really want to avoid looking at things "too broadly", then let's really narrow it down to how different all of the 300 variations of FPS, sports and racing games are on PS4 and XboxOne, the "superior consoles" because of their "great game libraries".
I own Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Donkey Kong 64. I've played every one of these games all the way through, at least twice.
Enlighten me on how these games are so different from one another. I'm really curious to hear this. ESPECIALLY Kazooie and Tooie. If you think those two are wildly different, but DKC Returns and Tropical Freeze are "too similar", you must not have actually played the games.
Weird, I guess all the new moves and abilities added to all of the games I mentioned aren't the same thing as the new moves and abilities added to the games you were talking about. And Super Mario Maker, that games is not at all different from Mario games of the past. I can think of at least a hundred other Mario games that allowed you to create your own platform game.
And I guess I haven't been reading my thesaurus closely enough because I wasn't aware that another word for "sequel" was "rehash". Thank you for educating me today.
In all seriousness, you completely destroyed your own dim-witted argument all by yourself with your last post. You served that one right up to me on a platter. There's nothing more I need to say.
Captain Toad, Bayonetta, Wonder 101, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Yoshi's Wooly World, Super Mario Maker, Smash Bros, Super Mario (and Luigi) U, Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze...
That's kind of the boat that I'm in. I still haven't even gotten to Bayonetta or Luigi U. There's a lot to be said about games that have so much content and such an enduring appeal - like Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Splatoon and Mario Maker. I'm STILL playing these quite often. They're in my regular rotation.
Nintendo can't do anything right by people, apparently.
No one's saying the Wii U is the best console ever.
We're saying that you're all ridiculous because you've been hating on it since day one. I distinctly remember that even before Smash Bros or Splatoon was announced, people were already saying "The Wii U is on its last legs" and "Wii U is dead" and "The nail in the coffin was ____".
You've revealed your extreme bias with the fact that you are generalizing the games rather than looking at them objectively. Yes, 2D platformers have been done, it's a genre. However, the creativity and inventiveness of what you add to it is what sets you apart. Nintendo's 2D platformers have such life and such character and are always very polished. They're what true gamers want - a fun experience. You're trying to tell me that Mario Kart 8 is "no different" an experience than any other cart racer? That Super Mario 3D World is "no different" an experience than any other platformer? Get out of here with your bias.
Or should I throw your argument back in your face? I look at all the other consoles and all I see are first-person shooters and sports games. The same thing over and over and over again. What's unique about that? The fantastic processing power that seems to only be used to make the brown textures muddier?
Come on.
I'll let all of the fools argue about what the "nail in the coffin" of the Wii U is this week. It's always something different. Every week, they hammer in that final "nail in the coffin". Breaking news: "Nintendolife comment section says that the fact that the Wii U is offered in two color schemes is the TRUE NAIL IN THE COFFIN".
It's also daft to think that there is no difference between quantity and quality. Just because the PS4 and XB1 have "far more games" doesn't mean many of them are worth playing or going out of your way to get the system for. Further to that, almost all of these games are on both consoles. What would make you choose one over the other?
Nintendo is at a unique advantage in that their library, while smaller, is made up of very unique games.
I think the problem is that a lot of developers actually are very short-sighted or have an unwarranted bias.
I don't understand why everyone is so down on the Wii U. I think it's perfectly fine and the extreme hate is completely unwarranted.
It's not powerful enough For what? Every game I play on it plays smooth as silk. No lag, very minimal (if any) load times.
Graphics aren't as good as PS4/Xbox If you're playing games for their graphics, then you aren't a gamer. You'd be happy with those interactive DVD movie "games". In my opinion, the graphics look great anyway.
Developers don't want to develop on it because it's "too hard" Well, I'm not going to let the laziness of some incompetent crybabies shape my opinion of the system.
With all that extra processing power, think of all the new Fire Emblem characters we could get!
Big names familiar to long-time Nintendo fans like Rhajat, Severa, Owain (magic sword fighter), Kanna, Billy, Bally, Belly, Boaty, Ryoma, Carin, Jim, Elise, Anna, Gurei...
So someone finally taught those incompetent morons how to port a Newgrounds flash game to the Wii U? I guess we can stop claiming that the Wii U is "not much more powerful than a PS Vita".
@moomootown Thanks for the reply, I appreciate a good discussion. I don't think it's necessarily fair to say that people just have a "soft spot" for the game because they enjoyed it back in the day. I may have played it for the first time when I was 9 years old, but I've revisited it a few times again over the years. I still maintain that it is a perfectly fine game. It's very different and feels as if you are interacting with a living, breathing cartoon. Regardless, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and I do realize that a review is often just that, someone's opinion. But I think that in this instance, perhaps you just didn't "get" the game. You find the interactions with Pac-Man to be annoying, but I personally don't. I think it's part of the charm and experience. The game is not only very different from any other point and click game I have played from that era, but also a very unique game in the SNES library as a whole. So that's why I wanted to caution people to not be deterred by the review score. I think it's just easier to dismiss the fans of this game as being "nostalgiac" with a "soft spot" and claim the mechanics are faulty than it is to recognize that perhaps you just didn't connect with it.
@mjc0961 Thanks, friend! Yeah, I recognize that this game isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea, but for those who are looking for something unique and have a bit of patience, they're really going to enjoy it. Just because you can't figure out a puzzle or are too impatient to understand how to keep Pac-Man obedient (it's not that difficult), it doesn't mean the game was "horribly executed". I was 9 years old the first time I played this and managed to beat it over the course of a long weekend. The fact that the review ends with the critic thumbing his nose at how the game "isn't anything like a traditional Pac-Man game" and then proceeding to tell us to go play SMASH BROS of all games is very telling of the bias in this review.
If you're looking for a unique and very charming game, I wouldn't let the poor review score deter you. Unfortunately, the reviewer missed the point entirely of the control system. Pac-Man isn't supposed to obey your every command perfectly. The game firmly establishes that YOU are not "playing as Pac-Man". You are an outside force trying to direct another person to do things. Pac-Man is a fully realized character with his own mischievous personality. There is supposed to be a bit of a fight to get him to do what you want. He's going to lose interest in whatever you're doing and wander off to chase butterflies. He's going to get annoyed at being told to "LOOK" at everything. He doesn't behave like a soulless, obedient robot. He will openly attempt to defy you at times. It just adds to the charm.
This is a great game. Very different from the normal point and click games.
@Peach64 "People in the comments being totally ignorant again. The problem with the Wii U has always been it's architecture being drastically different to everything else out there. That makes in a nightmare to port games to. It's no good quoting spectacular games that were built ground up for the Wii U. No publisher is going to spend wages on the huge amounts of extra time required to get a port to work when sales are so slow. This is a business at the end of the day. It's not lazy, it's business sense. "
Says the ignorant person making an ignorant comment in the comments section?
The man claimed that the reason they couldn't port the stupid game to the Wii U was because it "wasn't powerful enough". That's the basis of our problems. Who cares about how "different" it is to produce games for the Wii U, we're taking an issue with the bold-faced lie that it's not because the system is difficult to produce for, it's that it lacks the power to run a game as simple as Isaac.
@Minish That's exactly what this is - developer's incompetence.
The issue isn't the hardware. It's the fact that the developer clearly doesn't have strong enough abilities working with raw code and has instead had to rely on third-party game development software and tools.
Well, Tyrone Rodriguez, I was on the fence about whether I was going to buy your stupid game or not. And now I am simply refusing to support you because you are a douchebag.
No, I didn't simply bail. Why would I parrot the exact same points that someone else has said better than I would have? Most would consider that a respectful and mature thing to do.
@MoonKnight7 Blizzard put out a demo video claiming they were "still on track" for a summer 2015 release of StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void" and reversed that decision within the span of 2 months, citing "balance issues". Why isn't anyone complaining about that?
You're really revealing yourself to be incredibly self-entitled.
@khaosklub Ok, fine, if you want to play it that way, take out the word "unique" that you are so strangely fixated on from my original post and then everything I have said is valid and trumps your points. In fact, you helped me out by listing several of the quality titles that the Wii U has that every Wii U owner should try.
I ask you again, what makes PS4 and XboxOne's holiday lineups beter than Wii U?
Between PS4 and Xbox One, we have the following types of games:
Tomb Raider sequel, Destiny sequel, Halo sequel, Forza sequel, sports game sequels, Metal Gear sequel, Fallout sequel, Fable sequel, Battlefront sequel... etc.
So many unique titles!!!
Why upgrade from PS3 or Xbox360?
I don't think your argument was very well thought-out.
What makes PS4 stand out from PS3? Or PS2?
What makes XBoxOne stand out from XBox360? Or Xbox?
What makes Call of Duty 19 different from Call of Duty 17?
What makes Forza Motorsports 6 different from Forza Motorsports 5?
What makes NHL16 different from NHL12?
What makes Fallout 4 different from Fallout 3?
What makes Halo 6 different from Halo 4?
Why are the PS4 and XboxOne holiday lineups better than Wii U's?
What makes PS4 any different from XboxOne for that matter?
In fact, when Zelda U was first announced, I pre-ordered it immediately. When I found out it was delayed, I said "aw, bummer. oh well" and am now patiently awaiting the release date. I have no idea why it is such a big deal to everyone else. If someone has a gun to your head and is demanding that you complete the story mode of Zelda U by February 20th, 2016, I could see you being a little annoyed. But otherwise, grow up.
I'd like to echo your point about Zelda U as well. Why are we "rightfully poking fun at Zelda U's current situation"? They let us know FAR IN ADVANCE that they would not be able to make their targeted release date. This happens everywhere, all the time. It's not just Nintendo. Heck, it's not just the video game industry! Movies are delayed all the time, for example. Authors push back release dates on their books because they simply underestimated the amount of time it would take to complete it. Or they ran into unexpected factors they couldn't control. That's reality, that's life. It's so ridiculous to hold a bitter attitude towards things like that and screaming "BUT YOU PROMISED!" like a child.
@MoonKnight7 I'm not sure how you could have misunderstood either, I felt I was very clear in addressing a larger group of people in general given the context of my entire post. You're excused, we all make mistakes.
I'm not talking about the video, I'm talking about people who claim to be Nintendo fans and then go on to complain about how the "games are bad", "no big hitters", "bad graphics", "no good games coming out" " this (insert random stupid news snippet) is the final nail in the Wii U's coffin!"
I own every major console on the market. I spend the majority of my time on the Wii U. To be quite honest, I have no interest in the holiday lineups of Xbone and PS4. I have no interest in the newest FPS clone, newest racing game clone, etc. It's really no better than Wii U's. I made the mistake of purchasing Fallout 4 already.
People who claim to be Nintendo fans are so god damn weird sometimes.
They ignore the fact that there are so many quality, unique titles offered by the system and are always quick to cry about something being "the final nail in the Wii U's coffin!" and whine about how there are "no good games coming out".
Meanwhile, I've exclusively been playing great games on my Wii U while my PS4 has sit unplayed, collecting dust since I finished Arkham Knight in August.
@skarmachild So did you completely miss the point of what I was saying? My point is that focusing solely on the graphics of a game when you make a decision about it is completely foolish. It's not even about whether it is supposed to be more geared toward the 'cinematic' genre of games or traditional gameplay, it's about dismissing a game and saying "it sucks" because it's not the most textured and graphically enhanced games on the market.
The second someone puts more concern into GRAPHICS than they do actual GAMEPLAY, I stop reading/listening to anything they are saying because they have identified themselves as a moron.
Does the game look as slick as something brand-new on a PS4? No. Is it going to be fun as hell and control perfectly? Absolutely.
Now this just may be my opinion, but I believe the point of a video GAME is to be FUN. So to all of you idiots saying "lol not buyin it it looks like ps2". You're a moron, go play a generic Cinematic Game on PS4 or XBone. You know, the ones where you spend 15 minutes watching a beautiful cinematic cut scene, then play the game for 5 minutes through Quick Time events, then watch another 15 minute cinematic cut scene. Meanwhile, I'll be over here having a blast playing unique Nintendo games.
Anytime someone feels the need to call out or address "the haters" is the moment they've completely lost me. You're not a teenage girl posting a video to your Twitter account.
I am actually getting tired of hearing about Mario Maker levels created by "professional game developers" and "gaming celebrities". They're just... never that good.
@electrolite77 Great job completely failing to understand the context.
What I don't understand is why online multiplayer is so important for EVERY game. We're at the point now where a company will release a game like Mega Man or Final Fantasy, a game that is intended to be enjoyed solo, and the chief complaint about it from people will be "YA BUT WERS THE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER FEATURES?!"
These party games are intended to be enjoyed as if they were a digital board game that you play while interacting with people in the same room. It's part of the fun seeing people react when you steal stars from them or send them back a few spaces.
But let's just keep shoe-horning those online features into everything because apparently no one has real-life friends anymore.
Yeah, I play a lot of party games with my brother and our cousins/respective friends. It's not as often as I'd like, but we have a blast when we do.
I often find I have LESS fun playing multiplayer games online as people either figure out how to cheat/glitch games, or they're just far too skilled for me to keep up (I have no problem admitting this) and the game just becomes a frustrating endeavour as opposed to something enjoyable.
Besides, since when did we stop caring about the friends we have right around us and prefer to play with complete strangers? I agree that it can be fun to play with people all around the world, but I hate when that comes at the exclusion of any sort of local multplayer options.
Why are people always so damn concerned with online play?
I echo @BJQ1972 's sentiments: "So how exactly would a game that looks as complicated as Snakes & Ladders benefit from online multiplayer with no voice chat?"
How does the lack of online features detract from this game at all? If you have at least three friends (or relatives) to play with, you would automatically have more fun than you would online.
People need to stop getting such a hard-on for online play. Could you imagine having to sit and wait for someone to finish their turn who is taking forever? And if there was no real time limit on turns, imagine if they go to the bathoom and leave their controller? Or are checking their phone in between turns (which is guaranteed to happen)?

I'll let all of the fools argue about what the "nail in the coffin" of the Wii U is this week. It's always something different. Every week, they hammer in that final "nail in the coffin". Breaking news: "Nintendolife comment section says that the fact that the Wii U is offered in two color schemes is the TRUE NAIL IN THE COFFIN".
@Darknyht Great points.
Re: Rumour: Super Smash Bros. Planned as NX Launch Title, Bandai Namco Working on "Several" Games
@electrolite77
Re: Rumour: Super Smash Bros. Planned as NX Launch Title, Bandai Namco Working on "Several" Games
@Yorumi
How so? I've been consistently playing new games on my Wii U since it was released.
The last time I played my PS4 was 3 months ago.
Re: Rumour: Super Smash Bros. Planned as NX Launch Title, Bandai Namco Working on "Several" Games
I don't understand why everyone is so down on the Wii U. I think it's perfectly fine and the extreme hate is completely unwarranted.
For what? Every game I play on it plays smooth as silk. No lag, very minimal (if any) load times.
If you're playing games for their graphics, then you aren't a gamer. You'd be happy with those interactive DVD movie "games". In my opinion, the graphics look great anyway.
Well, I'm not going to let the laziness of some incompetent crybabies shape my opinion of the system.
Re: Rumour: Super Smash Bros. Planned as NX Launch Title, Bandai Namco Working on "Several" Games
That's how you sell a game!
Re: Rumour: The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth May Be Coming to Wii U After All
So someone finally taught those incompetent morons how to port a Newgrounds flash game to the Wii U? I guess we can stop claiming that the Wii U is "not much more powerful than a PS Vita".
Re: Review: Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (Wii U eShop / SNES)
@moomootown
Thanks for the reply, I appreciate a good discussion.
Re: Review: Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (Wii U eShop / SNES)
@mjc0961 Thanks, friend!
Re: Review: Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures (Wii U eShop / SNES)
Re: Poor Odds of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth Coming to Wii U as Nicalis Says It's "Not Much More Powerful Than a PS Vita"
@Peach64
"People in the comments being totally ignorant again.
Re: Poor Odds of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth Coming to Wii U as Nicalis Says It's "Not Much More Powerful Than a PS Vita"
@Minish That's exactly what this is - developer's incompetence.
The issue isn't the hardware. It's the fact that the developer clearly doesn't have strong enough abilities working with raw code and has instead had to rely on third-party game development software and tools.
Re: Poor Odds of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth Coming to Wii U as Nicalis Says It's "Not Much More Powerful Than a PS Vita"
@Imerion
Tyrone Rodriguez is effectively the poor mechanic blaming his tools.
"But Wii U doesn't let me publish games with the freeware version of GameMaker Pro!"
Re: Poor Odds of The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth Coming to Wii U as Nicalis Says It's "Not Much More Powerful Than a PS Vita"
Well, Tyrone Rodriguez, I was on the fence about whether I was going to buy your stupid game or not. And now I am simply refusing to support you because you are a douchebag.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
No, I didn't simply bail. Why would I parrot the exact same points that someone else has said better than I would have? Most would consider that a respectful and mature thing to do.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@MoonKnight7 Go read shani's post. I can't do any better than that one, it's spot on.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@khaosklub
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@shani You got it.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@shani Thank you for being the voice of reason!
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@MoonKnight7 No need to apologize again! I've already accepted your apology.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@MoonKnight7 I'm not sure how you could have misunderstood either, I felt I was very clear in addressing a larger group of people in general given the context of my entire post.
You're excused, we all make mistakes.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
@MoonKnight7 Read my post again.
Re: Humour: The Pain Of Being A Wii U Owner This Christmas, Summed Up In Rap Form
Re: Video: See the Differences Between Star Fox Zero at E3 and Now
@skarmachild So did you completely miss the point of what I was saying? My point is that focusing solely on the graphics of a game when you make a decision about it is completely foolish. It's not even about whether it is supposed to be more geared toward the 'cinematic' genre of games or traditional gameplay, it's about dismissing a game and saying "it sucks" because it's not the most textured and graphically enhanced games on the market.
Re: Video: See the Differences Between Star Fox Zero at E3 and Now
The second someone puts more concern into GRAPHICS than they do actual GAMEPLAY, I stop reading/listening to anything they are saying because they have identified themselves as a moron.
Re: Video: Here's The Moment The SNES PlayStation Gets Turned On For The First Time
Anytime someone feels the need to call out or address "the haters" is the moment they've completely lost me. You're not a teenage girl posting a video to your Twitter account.
Re: Nintendo Confirms That amiibo Sales Have Now Reached 21 Million
And yet they would probably double those figures if they actually produced enough to meet the demand.
Re: A Level Made by Shinya Arino Will Be Included in the Upcoming Super Mario Maker Update
I am actually getting tired of hearing about Mario Maker levels created by "professional game developers" and "gaming celebrities". They're just... never that good.
Re: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival Won't Have Online Play
Re: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival Won't Have Online Play
@TheFatLucario
Re: Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival Won't Have Online Play
Why are people always so damn concerned with online play?
I echo @BJQ1972 's sentiments:
"So how exactly would a game that looks as complicated as Snakes & Ladders benefit from online multiplayer with no voice chat?"
