@nintendolife Thanks for the article making good points on the topic. Somewhat dislike the false balancing though, as not all opinions should be treated as equal, but you made good effort on giving an obvious turn towards questioning the actual utility of the tech.
@EarthboundBenjy You can't prove anything with an NFT as it's not officially accepted as such, as anyone enywhere could start their own Blockchain with the same claim of ownership, which again, isn't officially accepet as such (no copyright...)
@Desrever Primary owner of a digital receipt claiming ownership of something somewhere on the net within an indistinct Blockchain someone somewhere started. no actual (digital) copy included
Also, the NFT Blockshain details "ownership" of [something] within A not THE Blockchain. Also, there is no real "ownership" as a Blockchain is no official registrar, like a patent or copyright. You have therefor no "ownership" of anything, as it's not officially registered as such or otherwise officially recognised
The analyst analysed the generation duration of prior consoles and calculated the end of the current one. He can do basic math, we should all hail him for being a genius /s Seriously, who even pays that person for something so blatantly obvious
First time I can remember, we know of the years release slate in such detail. There will be a lot of surprises, but this is already a lot to look forward to
@RudyC3 "We know you hate it but we're gonna do it anyway, because we don't care what you love or hate, if we force it onto you then you have no choice to gobble it up, so why wouldn't we!" Also, we are in it for the 💰, not so you have fun playing our games. Paying up front is nice and the release day revenue is nothing to cough at, but we want to have a steady revenue stream and dry out the 🐳 for all they are worth, consequences for their life be damned 😈
"enter random YouTuber"-designed exclusive Apex Legends outfit/skin, limited to 1000 units/NFTs Either win one of 10 promo codes or buy for 100$ a pop, guaranteed to rise in price on the second hand market
@UltimateOtaku91 I expect some Youtuber exclusive give away outfits though... Though then again, they wouldn't need NFT for this and could do it as is with promo codes... Which you couldn't sell... This is going to be a rabid rabbit hole...
@UltimateOtaku91 It's not about it affecting you, it's about how it effects the environment and the processing power (and thereby needed energy) needed to verify ownership. To you, who plays the game, it will likely make little difference.
@Spiders It people who think themselves smart and outwitting others who "don't get it". It's nothing but gambling though, with some few making all the money. At some point the (digital) objects on offer will outweigh demand by far, making prizes fall to nothing, leaving poor buggers scraping for some leftover worth. Happens all the time with cards and fad based products. Digital is even worse, as you could just copy-pasta for all eternity or just have an algorithm create new stuff ad infinitum
@UltimateOtaku91 You don't need NFT which is a nightmare for the environment, due to the processing power needed to do anything that hasn't been done another way (profile bound loot...)
@Madao Yes, no matter the tech used, it's all digital and you don't "own" anything, as you are reliant on the service being kept active by the game publisher
@TryToBeHopeful Even the serial number issue could be profile bound, not needing NFT-crap. I guess NFT / Blockchain is something all the big game companies hablve to look into as investors demand it... Just as "subscription model"/"gaming-as-a-Service" was the last/current fad.
@TryToBeHopeful Indeed. The way they make it sound, it's going to be a mix of Microtransaction and user generated content, in hopes to earn money off the trading of said object. Don't get why NFT tech is needed though (aside from being the new "investors demand it"-Buzzword, as similar things have been done with profile bound content (Second life, Roblox...)
Looks good, but should have left out all the Ecchi crap... Like how every Japanese studio is now copying the Persona (5) Style, likely making it the Japanese game design trendsetter for the 2020s
Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. The bigger a company, the more company politics, leaving creativity in the dust. Their games with overblown marketing, yearly follow-ups, anti-consumer, gaming as a service, micro transactions and now NFT-bull, can be delayed to infinity for all I care
Blockchain... Might as well put a forest on fire... Never going to touch this Hope the Blockchain trend ends bloody so no one feels the need to touch this crap again
MUA3 and Fortnight shouldn't be on this list. Kind of on the fence regarding Splatoon as well...
What should be added:
Pikmin 3 should be included though, as it is a very good introduction to strategic thinking.
Also Portal Knights should be included, as it's creative mode is similar to Minecraft, but with somewhat kid friendlier graphic.
Abzu was also a big hit with the kids, as the space/underwater and chill gameplay was a good fit.
Last but not least the two Dragon Quest Builder games, which combine classic Zelda gameplay and Minecraft creativity and crafting.
Edit:
Grow: Song of the Evertree also looks very fitting, haven't had the chance to look further into it though.
Cloud again... If I wanted to "rent" cloud games (which I don't), I could get multiple months of game pass or PSNow for the money asked by Nintendo for a single game... Just don't get their strategy on this other than "well we do offer something"
First Kirby, now this. Hope one of them succeeds applying open world to their classic gameplay, both could turn out amazing... Both could turn out terrible as well... Will hold out for the first reviews to drop before I consider buying either.
They should just iterate on the switch, keep it backward compatible and continue doing the quirky stuff as add ons (Mario Kart Live, Labo...) and they can just continue collecting money from people
@Matty1988 Throw in translated versions of Mythical Ninja 2 and 3 and I might consider. Though I would prefer to buy a physical collection of all games of that series...
Few games are available so far. Yes, some are great, some are good, but considering the asking price, it's just sad, as most are now 20+ years old and the best have been rereleased repeatedly (looking at you OoT, with your GC and 3DS rereleases...). The competition is offering current gen games for the same price. Should they add Wii, WiiU, GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS and/or GC games, they could compensate somewhat, but it would still be overcharging, considering their graphics and age... If they were to add current gen games as MS and Sony do, I might reconsider...
@BloodNinja Feel you and your long working hours... Nowadays I spend more time on reading about gaming in between meetings, than I would possibly have to actually play, with two kids and all...
@OldPierre77
Totally know what you mean. Lemuroid is as far as I could ever manage, not even thinking about finikin with retroarch, dolphin, citra and the like. Would like to, but hardly have the time...
Now that tablets and mobiles are able to emulate up to psone and Dreamcast easily, some even managing Wii, 3ds and PS2 titles, I think it but a matter of time until switch, PS3 and 4 are emulatable on a mobile device, leaving the point and usability of devices such as those presented here highly in doubt to ever spread beyond a well off niche, able and willing to pay the prices asked...

Completely false, as you can only use and trade the NFT/Item within the game.
