Last year, as part of its 40th-anniversary celebrations, Nihon Falcom announced it would localise another four games from the Legend of Heroes RPG series for Nintendo Switch. One of these was The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero, which is due to arrive in Fall 2022.
Ahead of its release, the NISA store has now opened pre-orders in North America for a special 'limited edition' Switch physical package. It'll set you back $89.99 USD, and will follow with European pre-orders next week on 17th January from the official NISA Europe online store. Here's a look at the limited edition, along with a list of what's included:
There'll also be a deluxe edition made available - containing a copy of the game, the digital soundtrack and a mini art book. And if you already ordered a standard copy, you'll apparently be upgraded to the deluxe edition.
You can learn more about the other Legends of Heroes games on the way to the Nintendo Switch in our previous post. Will you be adding this particular entry to your Switch library? Comment down below.

Can't wait for the game
Will there be a standard retail release, both in Europe and the US?
@Quarth AFAIK the retail releases of the Cold Steel switch ports for EU and US were special editions (I think even for PS4, not sure). For this game It's already concerning as they only have this limited edition for pre-order.
EDIT: it seems Amazon has the regular edition for pre-order https://www.amazon.com/Legend-Heroes-Trails-Zero-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B099TL61TZ/
EDIT2: I'm stupid. The Amazon link was already linked above XD
I just want a normal physical copy
@moodycat I think they already ported Cold Steel 1 and 2 for the Asian market last year. I guess It's just a matter of when's the US/EU version coming out.
I really want to start this series... once i am through with trails in the sky and everything after
Dang. That's pricey, but I want it...Thoroughly enjoyed the Trails in the Sky and Cold Steel series, and I'm interested in playing more games from that world.
@Quarth As long as it's not from Limited Run Games you can bet there's also a Standard Edition version too. Knowing Falcom they'll called it under a different name just like Trails of Cold Steel IV which was called the Frontline Edition. Only thing is it'll cost full price at $60, not the sale price like on Steam or standard price like LRG. LRG's standard price never goes above $40 (unless it's a collection or bundle) so it's sad it isn't from them but the bright side is since these aren't limited releases, they do go down in prices after a few months or years after released.
Do you think this is a good game to start with this series?? It's a complete different story, right?
I want to try it out, but on Switch there's only several games that you won't understand unless you have played the first ones...
@DASchenk They’re available at most retailers!
I’d like to buy the trails in the sky series first please, Nihon . Hope you’re reading this. I think a lot of people would buy that series if it was available on Switch.
So stoked for this. It’s great that people got to enjoy the Crossbell duology over the years via fan translation, but there’s a significant portion of gamers who either don’t play games on PC or don’t mess with fan translation stuff. I’ve been holding out for hope they eventually these games would get an official release and here we are!
As for the LE, I’ve been slightly torn as I could spend significantly less on the standard copy via Best Buy (using reward certificates) and I’d still get the mini art book — the digital OST would actually be more convenient than a physical CD, too, and I don’t care much for the acrylic stands/cloth poster items… on the other hand, that outer box, hardback art book, and steel book looks great. It’s a good problem to have when we get choices!
Either way, I hope old and new fans support these official releases. It’ll show Falcom the West is hungry for more Trails and hopefully continue to push them to get localization more in sync than it has in past years — which has been dreadfully slow.
I mostly want it for the OST bit with only 10 songs I may get the regular version instead.
@DASchenk Then look at Amazon that's the most likely other place a standard would show up.
The most generic title ever, and people didn't like Triangle Strategy.
Didn't play the first trails games, so liekly won't play these as well...
If they were to port it all to switch though...
I just need to decide if I'm getting the limited edition on switch and regular on ps4, or the opposite...
@Specter_of-the_OLED
House of Fata Morgana was $50
A new Legend of Heroes game comes out every month, and every one is just as bad as the last.
I've heard very good things about the crossbell story arc, especially azure.
though from what ive gathered in regards to new fans is that these 2 games (zero and azure) are much easier to jump into in regards to the plot compared to cold steel 3.
Gameplay wise they are similar to the others, a traditional console style rpg with towns, dungeons, turn based combat (with position taken into account) and a system kind of like FFVIIs materia
I'll definitely get Zero, Azure, and Reverie standard editions. I'm still waiting for the impossible: Cold Steel 1 and 2 on Switch (Xseed please!).
@DASchenk Depending on which part of the world you are in, Amazon has a listing for pre-orders of the standard edition.
wens the othe trails games coming for switch especially the ones that take place after 4.
decided to grab this LE on the switch, these games aren't super graphically intense so it should play well. Excited for more Legend of Heroes.
I’m sure the game is good if you like JRPGs, but are these guys just throwing darts at words on a wall when they name this stuff? lol
Trails in the Sky series for modern consoles please...
Just making some of the games randomly available is maddening.
@GamerDad66
There could be licencing hurdles to jump through for that, however Ys Origin made its way and that was also Xseed so it isnt off the table.
hoping it does happen esp now that falcom are developing for switch.
