Re: Pachter: Nintendo Made The Right Decision In Skipping E3 This Year

SuperMinusWorld

@Fusion14 You literally have nothing to back you up on this. We've already heard about a new Mario Kart and Smash Bros. 4 being shown at E3 on top of a new 3D Mario. 3D Mario is a big deal, in case you weren't sure. In addition to these three, we'll possibly finally get to see Miyamoto's project, the new Retro Studios game, Mistwalker's new title, and whatever else Nintenso has in store (which they have stated repeatedly is a lot). I am excited, big show or not.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Made The Right Decision In Skipping E3 This Year

SuperMinusWorld

"I think that Nintendo gave this a lot of thought – they said we don’t really have anything new to show...we don’t really have any new Wii U games that are going to shine that are playable and, oh by the way, the reason that Fox News, ABC, etc, are all here is to look at the next Xbox and PS4, then we’re just going to look bad next to them."

That's a f***ing lie. Nintendo has plenty of new games to show and they've explicitly stated so. Once again, Pachter seems to be a perfectly ignorant idiot.

Anyway, I do wish they would just hold the big conference but I do hope this strategy works for them and is a decent replacement for the larger show. I'm really banking on them broadcasting the smaller conference, at least.

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Holding A Large-Scale Press Conference At E3 This Year

SuperMinusWorld

There goes all my hype for E3. The only reason I look forward to E3 is because of Nintendo's press conference. Even when they suck, they manage to get me going a good amount (except for E3 2004 and 2008... 2007, as well...). I can appreciate and understand these smaller conferences and the Nintendo Directs, but I really was hoping for a big conference from them. Plus, I don't think this will help get the word out about software and hardware (Wii U) at all, and will only hinder their efforts. The largest audience is captured by the largest show. Extremely disappointed right now, but I hope it works out for Nintendo. As long as I get my co op 3D Mario!

Re: Nintendo - "Innovation is Important" for the 2D Mario Series

SuperMinusWorld

Also, I'd just like to say to those who don't think Mario is innovative or exciting anymore: have you played the 3D series? It's innovative, creative, and fantastic. Galaxy is my favorite game of all time. The New series is causing people to believe that Mario is being milked and boring.

Also, Nintendo, if you're reading this by some chance, PLEASE GIVE US REAL MARIO & LUIGI CO OP IN THE NEXT 3D MARIO. Thanks!

Re: Nintendo - "Innovation is Important" for the 2D Mario Series

SuperMinusWorld

This is something that frustrates me with the NSMB team. They really, truly believe in their hearts that there's little room for change in the 2D Mario formula and the only formula people will buy is this one. In fact, they think it will be a challenge to come up with new things to add in future titles. How about they stop being so stubborn and just listen to the fans?

There are so many problems that can be addressed. First thing is the worlds. Who says it always has to be plains, desert, tropical, ice, forest, mountains, sky, and lava? Why can't there be a tundra? Why can't there be a world made entirely of various types of goo? Why can't Mario actually go to space in the 2D levels? Who says there has to be a worlds system at all?

Another thing that bugs me is the artstyle and music. They never change. NSMBU did provide new backgrounds which was nice, but the characters and items all stayed the same. They didn't even get a boost in polygons. Ripped right out of NSMBWii. And the music, aside from a few tracks like the main theme in NSMBU, is the same stuff we've been listening to since the DS in 2006. Change it up! People will know it's Mario! This isn't Looney Tunes where, the minute one visual or audible aspect of something changes, you can't recognize it!

The biggest thing that bothers me is how little Mario himself changes. The same basic control scheme and physics have remained since NSMB. They claim they change the physics (which they probably do), but it's never anything that will actually give the player a sense of change or freshness in how they play. Mario's move set never changes either. Why does he have to have this nearly useless triple jump? Why can't he have a midair jump automatically instead of assigning it to a power-up? Why can't he be more interactive with the world, like grabbing onto ledges if he falls just short or having a ground spin to break special blocks leading to something cool or add a cool, high score based level up system or be able to punch like in the NSMBDS prototype? Who says we even have to play as Mario or that the co op characters can't have unique abilities?? Honestly, I love Mario to death. I love the 3D series and I really want to love the New series but, aside from the exceptional NSMBU and the original DS title, I just can't help myself to be completely satisfied with it.

The New series is creatively stagnant. How is 2D Mario ever supposed to return to the quality of its innovative glory days if the team is unwilling to try anything actually new? Maybe it's time to move on and leave the "New" series in the past.

Re: Talking Point: Sony's PlayStation 4 Poses a Fresh Challenge for Wii U in the 2013 Holidays

SuperMinusWorld

Frankly, I was practically blown away by the PS4 last night. The graphics I couldn't care less about. However, the sheer amount of third party support and the features of this system astounded me. Knack really impressed me, Driveclub impressed me, and Deep Down impressed me. The connectivity and spectating mode of the system impressed me.

It looks like Sony has finally brought out the juggernaut we've heard rumblings about for at least 2 years now, and it is big. And it is big. Hope isn't lost though.

Nintendo has been around for years in the gaming business, longer than either Microsoft or Sony. They've been through the motions of many console wars and I'm confident in their ability to gain support and breathe life into their consoles with their own fantastic games. A lot of the features like spectating could very well be seen in future software updates and I am not intimidated. However, I do hope Nintendo sees what Sony is bringing out here, analyzes it, expects the same or worse from Microsoft, and brings their A-game as well. I can't wait for E3 for all the cards to be set onto the table.

Let me see some co op 3D Mario!

Re: Developer States That Wii U Woes Were a Focus At DICE

SuperMinusWorld

This Wii U negativity is ridiculous. I'm not a zealot or anything, but I know when to stick up for Nintendo and this is that time.

Wii U is a great console with an incredibly unique concept that many devs unfortunately lack the creativity to put to good use at this early period in its life. It is a next-gen system (despite what some may say) and will compete extremely well against the 720 and PS4 thanks in part to a lower price range and will be a lot more dev friendly for those who want to innovate and those who don't want to spend zillions of dollars trying to develop for the """next-gen""" (like indie developers).

Nintendo's online policies are also much more attractive to consumers and devs alike, such as not charging extra for patches or updates to games and the use of dollars for the eShop as opposed to imaginary, obtrusive points that allow greedy companies to charge more because people don't see what they're spending in dollars unless they do the math.

Wii U is a Nintendo console. Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid, Donkey Kong, Smash Bros., and a whole wealth of other million-dollar franchises are there to back it up. Of course the system isn't selling well right now, because everyone likes to place blame on it but no one is willing to do something about it and develop for it. Just wait for Super Mario to come out and we'll see everyone wanting to jump on the Wii U train.

Re: Reaction: The Rayman Legends Delay Is a Low Blow, But The Apocalypse Isn't Here

SuperMinusWorld

Honestly, there's no reason Ubsioft shouldn't release it as intended for Wii U in 3 weeks aside from Microsoft's exclusivity right. But who cares about Microsoft; just release the game on PS3 and Wii U and punish those greedy bastards. That's a discussion for another day, but I'm just going to say that the exclusivity right is a way for Microsoft to "compensate" for the lack of having any good first party titles or studios that want to work for them at all.

Anyway, Legends would benefit from being sold for Wii U earlier. We are at a time when people are hungering for new games from Wii U, and Legends would have been the game to sell the system. Releasing it during the same month of GTAV and in the same release schedule as many other big names like Pokemon a month later and Super Mario Wii U, Legends will be killed. Ubisoft may very well be sending this game out to die.

Re: Super Mario 3D Land Sales Outpacing Super Mario Galaxy's In First Year

SuperMinusWorld

I love Super Mario 3D Land. Seriously. I love it. Today was actually the day I beat it for the 8th time. True fact. But, I love Galaxu infinitely more. It is the perfect game to me.

Galaxy was so innovative, had flawless gameplay, excellent story, superb music, and top notch visuals. I love the gameplay style of 3D Land and the mixing of 2D/3D at the heart of the game. But I really, really miss the open, sprawling worlds of 64. And really, to limit Mario Wii U to linearity would be a crime.

I would totally by another 3D Land for the handheld. But keep console Mario games open and explorative. Keep them beautiful and sprawling. I want to be wowed every time I take a look at the level. Seriously. The perfect 3D Mario to me would be Toad Town as the hub world and you visit different parts of the Mushroom Kingdom (and maybe even places like Isle Delfino) through warp pipes, cannons, boats, and even just walking there. Make it big.

Also, M&L co op please.

Re: Nintendo Is Strengthening Development Teams, Defends Wii U Capabilities

SuperMinusWorld

@19Robbs92 This exactly. Please Nintendo, perfect your games. I still remember when they talked about considering rushing out Super Mario Galaxy due to the criticism of lack of a Mario launch game. They quelled any of those thoughts with the notion that producing a polished, perfect game was more important than pushing out a game faster. Keep that mindset intact! I want Mario Wii U to look AND play beautifully!

Re: Wii U Software Sales Are "Struggling"

SuperMinusWorld

@Hyperstar96 Let's not get a little ahead of ourselves, people didn't cry over the new Zelda. Very, very excited, but there was no crying.

Frankly, New Super Mario U on its own is a great game. It's the best of the NSMB series, but that's not saying much when you consider what's come before it (practically stagnant, bland sequels to the original SMB series). Miyamoto is stubborn. He claims artstyle is unimportant, but that is what the people see upfront. They see a game that looks just like the other three that have come before (and they hear a game that looks like the ones that have come before it on top of that), and they find it difficult to find a reason for it to warrant a purchase. This pertains mostly to the "casuals" or people tight on money: they see a game that they already have.

I think Super Mario U can make waves like Galaxy did. It looks as though New Super Mario Bros. U's time has passed, unfortunately.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. U Wins VGA For Best Wii / Wii U Game

SuperMinusWorld

The VGA's are overly commercialized, illegitimate wastes of TV programming. They very clearly cater to Xbox fans with Sony fans following closely behind. I mean, if the nominations for Nintendo were becoming so few and far between that they were seen as big enough of a joke to have a category called "Best Wii/Wii U Game", then you know there's something up. I'm glad I didn't tune in.

A friend did however, and told that the only Nintendo nominations for Game of the Decade were Wind Waker and Wii Sports. Ok. Ok. Enough. Screw the VGA's, the idiots behind it, its fans, and Samuel L. Jackson (who, frankly, is not baddonkey at all).

Re: Analyst Believes Nintendo Shouldn't Compete With Sony And Microsoft

SuperMinusWorld

To be honest, I don't think Nintendo ever really lost their core. But to discourage them from appealing to the core and the casual is wrong. There are two types of core here: Nintendo fans and "hardcore" gamers. Last gen, Nintendo lost a lot of the latter and a bit of the former. To try to regain that while maintaining the casual is a smart strategy. Nintendo doesn't make games for any one group; they make games for everyone.

Re: THQ Adds Clarity To The Wii U "Horrible, Slow CPU" Comments

SuperMinusWorld

This generation is as expensive as is. Once the next gen takes full effect and Microsoft and Sony enter it, costs to design and produce a game will be astronomical. Indie devs will be far too overwhelmed by production costs, and most smart studios will flock to Wii U in droves due to the ease of development and the relative cheapness to develop in contrast to these so-called nnext-gen technical powerhouses from Micro and Sony.

Wii U is going to be just fine.

Re: Jack Tretton Wishes Nintendo Every Success With Wii U

SuperMinusWorld

As nice as this was coming from Mr. Tretton, no one in business does or says something without some sort of ulterior motive. Doubtless, this'll make some headlines (bringing attention to Sony and their consoles). Still, it is better than that Microsoft rep idiot quickly chiming in with a "Boy, no better time than now to buy an Xbox, when Nintendo's next big console is coming out."

Re: Watch: First US Wii U Advert Appears

SuperMinusWorld

Pretty good; I'm in love with that giant blue 'U' at the very end. Not sure what it is. It could be the color that makes it or the music working with the camera movement or the fact that those people were PLAYIN inside a giant 'U' construct. Very cool. I just wish it wouldn't retain as much of a casual vibe as it does. Turns me off a bit. They should have included a few college guys sitting around playing or whatever. Plus, there wasn't anything really memorable about what was shown gameplay-wise.

Also, I didn't get the sense of "THIS IS OUR NEW CONSOLE, OK?" from the commercial like I was hoping. They should outright just came out and said 'This is the all-new home console: Nintendo Wii U" and then towards the middle have a shot of the console laying down with blue lights about it.

It was pretty alright overall, though. The slogan "Who Are U?" as an homage to the GBA (and connectivity to the GCN) era would have also been accepted, but this is great too.

Re: Wii Owners: Microsoft Wants You To Buy The Xbox 360 This Holiday Season

SuperMinusWorld

Nike + Kinect Fitness is not a blockbuster title by any means. Also, why would anyone choose a console with a second screen implementation as an afterthought over a more powerful console with better exclusives and third party support built around the second screen. It just doesn't make sense, and that statement by the exec is greedy and ignorant any which way you look at it.
